A five-one battering at the home of your bitter rivals is never something to be positive about, but a 39th minute tactical re-think that day at St James’ Park may ironically prove beneficial to Steve Bruce’s Sunderland in the long-term.

Having favoured a 4-5-1 formation since the start of the season, Bruce hauled off out-of-position favourite Elmohamady and replaced the Egyptian with record-signing Asamoah Gyan, resultantly changing his side’s formation to a 4-4-2 to counter a rampant Newcastle. Since then, Gyan has never looked back.

With Darren Bent succumbing to a hamstring injury, Gyan has taken on the mantle as senior member of a Sunderland strike-pairing that sees him joined up-front by on-loan Man United youngster Danny Welbeck, and since that Tyne-Wear derby, his performances have been sensational. The subsequent three games have seen the Ghanaian as the in-form forward in the Premier League, bagging 4 goals and picking up 5 Bonus Points, a fantastic return of 27 points from his only league starts to date. Even Bent’s imminent return to action will surely do little to limit Gyan’s minutes now, with Welbeck the one briefly benched for the first half at White Hart Lane instead of the £13m signing from Rennes as Bruce began with a 4-5-1 before reverting to two up front for the second forty-five.

Sunderland have a great set of fixtures up next, which reads (EVE, wol, WHM, ful, BOL) and are currently on a run of form which sees them with just one defeat in their last eleven games. In addition, they are unbeaten at home all season, despite facing Arsenal, Man City and Man United at the Stadium of Light.

As the first team to score at Stamford Bridge in the league this season, Sunderland will, undoubtedly, be brimming with confidence coming into the weekend and Asamoah Gyan, priced at £7.2m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and owned by a mere 2.5% of managers, has already shown the league leaders he has the pace, power and precise finishing to put any team to the sword.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone know where AtB is? Don't recall him saying he was on hol. Maybe he has gone away with RBJ to 'Was doing well, now shite' Club for detox. Bit miffed I wasn't invited if true! I qualify big time! 😀

FISO has such a long list of players to drop.

    FPL however has hardly any.

Who is more reliable? and who will DROP?

I bought Barton for 4.5m. He's valued in my team as 4.6m. But he's currently on 4.7m and due to drop. What will that mean for his value in my team please? I ask becuase I want to take him out but hoped to wait till Friday.

Too many red arrows. Hoping to kick on until we get the next wildcard...

Main thing for me is shifting a bit more money back into defence. Getting in vidic, kolarov, maybe a chelski defender. Not too much change in midfield, got in Nani and Jarivs and main change up front will be Tevez out Elmander in.

        Got Ferdinand.

Too much is made of Kolarov's attacking potential. He's not that great going forward (5 goals 7 assists in 3 seasons.)

Also, City have 2 away games on the bounce, and it's yet to be seen whether Mankini trusts the Serb at left back enough to play him against the likes of Stoke.

I'll take ManUtd's nice fixtures coming up and keep an eye on him.

No i reckon he'll be back in the team soon enough. Only a matter of time before Richardson who is first choice left back replaces Bardsley who is normally only 2nd choice right back. Badsley has been doing a job at left back but Richardson is far better there and offers way more going forward from that position. When Richardson reverts to left back i think we'll see the return of elmo to the midfield.

Elmo has generally been quite good and i think it be wise to hold tight ith him for another week or two...smb site has a lot of people calling for his return against everton..

Against spurs Bruce made a lot of changes anyway...against chelsea Richardson was played in right wing solely to mark Ash Cole out of game as Richardson has pace and is a good marker/tackler. He won't be played right wing all the time ( that was his first time ever)....wouldn't be surprised to see elmo back there v soon...

Ithink actually it says a hell of a lot.

I've been hoping something like tonight would happen for a while. The players who play for the top clubs rarely produce their full potential for England. Give the next tier down a chance and they'll rise to the challenge. I was very happy to see some selections based on form, some also of bench players for top teams, and some young players coming through.

I was also glad to see Gerrard in there too. I think he and Beckham two of the exceptions of top players who have performed at something approaching their club form for England. I can't think of many others.

put it this way, if you were selecting and England 11 fantasy team, it wouldn't be:

          Hart
          Johnson Terry Ferdinand Cole
          Lennon Gerrard Lampard Barry
          Rooney Defoe

          It might be more like

I personally think Bruce is using his options wisely. The move to 442 has been effective, but he could make the switch back to 451 if it's tactically sound. Yes, it's working and they're at home, but SH must know that Elmo is a good player, and against Baines and Pienaar he might just go for the extra cover, 1 up front, and suddenly Bent's pushing Gyan out to the bench. Or at least lurking a lot more menacingly!

        Im in top 15,000

reason i asked if anyone can beat 107.6 and in top 100000 is because they are real players

There are some who play the game just to increase team value but they are usually a long way off the pace. I want to see if any real teams can beat my value

I could do shawcross and tevez out vidic and elmander in. It looks good as far as fixtures go but im struggling to justify getting rid of a top end striker for a top end defender since strikers traditionally score higher over the course of the season than defenders. ignore the .5 maloudas price will drop, nanis will rise, it could end up being a .2 or no difference withing weeks

if ur bringing in nani for malouda your backing him to do better then him
