West Brom have revealed that Chris Brunt is a doubt for their clash with Stoke City on Saturday after suffering a groin injury whilst playing in Northern Ireland’s 1-1 draw against Morocco at Windsor Park last night. The midfielder will be assessed later today to find out the full extent of the injury. Roberto Di Matteo has already declared his irritation at the manner in which the injury was sustained…

“We know that Chris Brunt picked up a groin injury last night and that really annoys me. The others seem to be okay. We’ve just had four games in 12 days – and one of those games was with nine men and put a lot of demands on him. The last thing we needed was for him to go to a midweek international game because the risk of injury increases. Friendlies at this stage of the season don’t make sense to me. He’s coming in today and he’s going to be assessed. At the moment he is a doubt for Saturday’s game.”

With Brunt holding the idyllic combination of both a fairly low transfer value (5.7 in the FPL) and the ability to score decent points, many Fantasy Managers have targeted the Baggies man as the perfect cut-price option to compliment some of their more pricey assets. In addition to his expert left-foot deliveries from both set-pieces and open play, Brunt has displayed the capacity to rake-in Bonus Points, grabbing an impressive 10 in total to this point.

Earlier today Di Matteo admitted that he may have to make some changes to the Baggies’ starting line-up to combat Stoke’s physical presence.

“I’ve been thinking about adapting the team. It’s a possibility getting big players in will affect my thinking.”

We can only speculate on the tweaks that the Italian has in mind, but one possibility concerns the role of Peter Odemwingie. He could well be shifted back to a position on the flank, with Marc-Antoine Fortune, who has had to be content with cameo roles in his last two outings, returning as the lone striker to add his size for the battle at set-plays. Roman Bednar is another option here, although only today there is speculation surrounding his immediate future at the Hawthorns with a possible loan move on the horizon.

Regardless, with Brunt now a possible absentee, the key message for Fantasy Managers is that there is new uncertainty surrounding the West Brom lineup for what looks to be a potentially profitable home fixture.

Ugh, terrible news. Got Brunt in, and this was a fixture I was looking forward to. Annoying.

Hopefully we'll find out more before saturday.

    Foster or Krul?

I’ll be playing Simpson. The CS Odds suggest Newcastle have a better chance, but Foster could be more likely to get points?

I'm in same boat with Dann. think i'm gonna bench Dann, double up on Krul and Simpson and pray.

I was advised on here to play carson and simpson.

      Easy imo.

N'Zog has to play. He's Wigan's creative force, and if they do anything good, he'll be involved. He's also on for bonus points.

Camzy, if you had VDV/Bale/N'Zogbia, which would you bench? my other midfielders are Nani and Fabregas and was planning on 3 up front this week with Torres, Odemwingie and Drogba

          Bench N'Zogbia.

You shouldn't have to make that decision. You need to sell one of your midfielders for a 4.3 bench sitter. It's no good having to bench a 5.5 player every week, and many weeks you're going to get it wrong and tear out your hair.

I'd drop one of Bale or Van Der Vaart next week depending on how Tottenham lineup at the weekend.

yeah might just do that and use the cash to upgrade one of my defenders to kolorov/bosingwa etc

i had planned to bench n'zog, yet i thought i'd play 3-5-2 most weeks n bench one of n'zog/odemwingie every week and also hav a quality attacking sub as cover.

as i have a high squad value that seems more plausible, but i do fancy a defence of cashley/coleman/kolorov/bosingwa/simpson

Oops, a 5.5m midfielder wouldn't get on my bench. I have packed my midfield with heavyweights and considering boosting it further with Arteta to Cahill. But first I have to possibly eject Mummy, Coleman and GK

I have Foster in goal so have some brum coverage. Need to do the transfer this week as not enough cash to just do arteta -> nani. bolton fixtures look decent and cahill is BP magnet, plus usually gets a few goals. any others out there i'm missing?

I'm not sold on Cahill. No Bolton cleanies since GW1 & no goals means youre relying on baps to get you points from him.

I have Konchesky already but of those 3 definately Samba for me.

Has everyone given up on Nasri? Was he very much flavour of the month when Fabregas was out.

Was considered switching him with VDV this week but he only gets points at home.

Also worth getting rid of Elmo for either Bardsley or G.Cahill?

I actually really like Nasri this season.

He plays in a similar position to Arshavin, and he's on setpieces. The thing is, having both Fabregas and Nasri could be too risky, so if it's a choice between those two, there can only be one winner.

Fortune doesn't offer much to our team as we play on the counter, he has no pace and he isn't even good in the air for his size so it would be pointless playing him as a target man against Huth and Shawcross. Odemwingie will cause them problems with his pace and he should start up front on his own IMO, we started him out wide against Blues and Fortune was up top and he didn't do anything against Dann and Johnson. Then he went off at half time and we won 3-1 from 1-0 down..

    posted last topic, but for anyone coming home from work, no harm sticking it up again;

    Theres one thing we with Adam and Brunt have to keep in mind gents I have both;

Basiscally, none of the managers want these midweek friendlies. Now, Brunt was taken off as agreed at half time. So he might be alright. Fergie has been playing these mind games for years and we all know how other managers look up to him.Adam also said he should be fine after the game, but we know the legend that is Holloway loves a good moan.

Ergo, we could be looking at two men (di matteo and Ollie) that are seizing the opportunity to have a moan about their fears , and also possibly wrongfoot the opposition camp for saturday, while it presents itself. Thsi would give them more ammunition when these friendlies come around again, having an example to cite. In which case, i would not be surprised if both started this weekend.

I certainly hope they do, and ill be starting them with autosubs to do the business should they indeed be worse than i suspect.

Well, they're both going to be in my starting 11, but I'm not that hopeful of them playing.

no harm playing them and if you want to keep them then no point transferring them out.

Although, if I had both right now i'd be tempted to swap one of them for Jarvis.

      Adam - Jarvis

With regards to Adam. It's worth bearing in mind he has a Lancashire derby vs Bolton after Wolves. So even if he doesn't play on Saturday I'm keeping him until then at least.

Not sure about keeping Adam given that he's injured now and he has poor fixtures to follow.

    Team is currently
    Schwarzer, Al-Habsi
Cole, Coleman, Phil Jones, Jara, Enrique
    Nani, Fab, Malouda, Bale, N'Zogbia
    Carroll, Drogba, Elmander

I have two freebies and thinking of doing:
    Malouda & Jones out
    Jarvis and Vidiv in.

Thoughts? Is there anything I would be better off doing?

      Sell Enrique instead.

Rovers are a better defensive team, and have better fixtures too.

Other than that, it looks good.

Although I would rather have a 4.3 mid in there so that you don't have to choose someone to bench every week which could be really painful.

Yeh Enrique does look better nice call I've gone through the next 5/6 weeks and I think there is only one week that is tricky about who to drop so not so bad.

Nah its just a spot of Malaria. I used to live in Africa once you've had it once you get over it quicker and he had it when he was a kid should be fine soon enough. Also means you have a handy way of bringing in Rooney in case he comes back with last seasons form.
