Steven Gerrard will undergo a scan today to assess the extent of a hamstring injury sustained in England’s 2-1 friendly defeat to France last night at Wembley. Gerrard left the field after 84 minutes with the problem, breaking an agreement between Liverpool and England stating that the midfielder would only play for an hour.

The prognosis is not yet known, although the Daily Telegraph’s Henry Winter has reported through his Twitter account, that Gerrard could be out of action for 4-5 weeks…

The Reds were left fuming after Fabio Capello decided to break their promise by keeping the player on the field. Liverpool’s head of fitness and conditioning Darren Burgess vented his anger on Twitter, although the rant was removed shortly afterwards…

“Unbelievable from all associated with England and English FA with regard to Steven Gerrard’s injury. Completely ignored agreement and past history.”

The Liverpool captain’s possible spell on the sidelines will come as a massive blow for Roy Hodgson’s men and a large proportion of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Managers, with the player currently boasting 12.9% ownership. Although one of the most expensive players in the FPL game at £11.4 and by no means enjoying his greatest season, Gerrard has managed to notch-up a steady 57 points this so far this term and could leave Fantasy Football Managers with a dilemma.

With the probable absence of Gerrard and Lucas Leiva’s suspension, Liverpool are facing a crisis in midfield for the visit of West Ham on Saturday. This surely means that, along with Raul Meireles, Christian Poulsen will start the game and the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing could hope for some minutes. With Gerrard being the regular spot-kick taker Fernando Torres, who is also a doubt, will be the likely replacement.

Saturday’s home fixture against West Ham is a must win game for Liverpool, but with doubts hanging over several key first-team regulars (Torres, Joe Cole, Dirk Kuyt and Martin Skrtel) and of course the Gerrard injury, it is already looking a potentially uncomfortable encounter for Roy Hodgson’s side.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    Would you do:

    A) Barton > Nani: 0m in the bank and a selection headache
    B) Arteta > Nani: 3.5m in the bank and just play Carroll and bench Barton. Barton still has to serve a 2 match ban.

    This is my WC backline

    Jussi Gordon
    Vidic Samba Hughes Kyryagos

By rotating these players I will be able to play the next 6 gws (24 games) with 20 of the games having a defender with a home match! Do u think this is a good idea or should i just invest in 2 expenive defenders?

Foley's maybe a better prospect than Simpson with his fixtures. It doesn't matter that much though, they'll be on the bench most of the time anyways.

I think Rio is the right choice if he stays healthy.

I am looking to bring in Koly for O'Shea next week, funnily enough.

Want to make sure Mancini is 100% committed to Koly first and think MUFC have a better shot at a cleany (if O'Shea plays, heh).

If O'Shea was starting, like Rio will, I wouldn't be making the swap.

      Went for Rio.

      Exact same transfer options.

2 great games coming up, and in that time, we can watch Kolarov and work out whether Mancini trusts him enough to start him in games like Stoke away.

I wouldn't get rid of Nolan. I binned him the week before his hat-trick for Yaya.

Dann to Cahill is sound, but Bolton have had a tough time keeping clean-sheets.

What about a Holden? He has been on-fire the last couple weeks.

Most Bolton fans I've heard from who have been to the games think he's been the catalyst for their recent good run.

holden is like modric imo. consistently good every game but it doesn't equate to fpl points. he assists the assist, or makes the tackle/interception that starts the goalscoring move. instrumental to bolton this season but last match was the only game he's got some fpl points for his efforts

Poor pun in the Liverpool tweet? Or just bad spelling?!

"He's probably got another three or four weeks before he's back playing. It's a very disappointing and frustrating situation but there's nothing we can do about it. Time **heels** this kind of injury and we just have to be patient with Daniel."

Well, that's the risk you take. But there's been a lot of grumbling on here from people who've missed price changes lately. And I'm not particularly sympathetic to them. TFPL and CTC are only guides; perhaps Nani isn't 14% away from a rise (or whatever it is) but only 1%...

              I don't agree.

0.1s add up fast. I've got more than 3.0 value on you, and it's from making moves early for players.

Obviously if you don't have to move early, don't, but most cases, you're going to have to nip in maybe even on Sunday or Monday night to get good deals on form players.

You've got to remember that players aren't supposed to get injured. If you get an injured player in you're very unlucky.

I think that all of us who use this site play far too much attention to fixtures. They are a good guide but can skewer reality to the point of even considering Milijas over Bale. If Harry goes two up, judging by previous north london derbies, it could be a goal fest with Bale easily banging in an assist even a goal or two.

    Theres one thing we with Adam and Brunt have to keep in mind gents I have both;

Basiscally, none of the managers want these midweek friendlies. Now, Brunt was taken off as agreed at half time. So he might be alright. Fergie has been playing these mind games for years and we all know how other managers look up to him.Adam also said he should be fine after the game, but we know the legend that is Holloway loves a good moan.

Ergo, we could be looking at two men (di matteo and Ollie) that are seizing the opportunity to have a moan about their fears , and also possibly wrongfoot the opposition camp for saturday, while it presents itself. Thsi would give them more ammunition when these friendlies come around again, having an example to cite. In which case, i would not be surprised if both started this weekend.

I certainly hope they do, and ill be starting them with autosubs to do the business should they indeed be worse than i suspect.

The good thing about both Brunt and Adam is that West Brom and Blackpool both have the sort of home games that would have been marked out in red at the start of the season.

Even carrying knocks I think both will start as these games are vitally important to both clubs.

Hah, nice one. In fairness, i'm more Cantona than Zidane. Seeing him live and scoring THAT goal was the highlight of my football watching career. I've never seen someone so so so much better than everyone else on a pitch. Genius isn't praise enough!

    Advice please:

    Krul (Foster)
    Vidic Simpson Coleman (Alcaraz Mummy)
    Nani(c) Fabregas Malouda VDV Adam
    Drogba Carroll (Piq)

With Adam a major doubt and already having done my free transfer this week would you be content with playing Piq away to Liverpool, where who knows, he could still score; or take a 4 point hit somewhere?

Freddie P's a decent enough sub to have and could even bag you a goal.

Even if he doesn't then it should be 2 points guaranteed against a risk on someone coming in and getting you 6+ points.

Plus, I reckon Adam's going to play. Wolves at home is one of those really big games for Blackpool and I can see Adam starting even if he's still carrying a knock.

Good point, cheers. I've looked at my team and Mummy is the only one that stands out as who I'd replace due to his rotation 'problem' - and it's rarely worth taking hits for defenders.

I'll just have to hope Adam makes it, and of course Coleman plays.

If it's any use to you, I transferred out Mummy this week and bought Cahill. Not sure if it's worth the 4 points straight away, but I think it will pay off over the next few weeks.

Can't see more than 2 points for Foley.
With N'Zog, if Wigan get a result he'll get at least 5.

      Cogito ergo Zoggo.

This is my team at the moment:-

    Robinson(Foster)
    Cole Zhirkov Coleman (Tamas Dann)
    Nani Walcott VDV Adam Brunt
    Drogba Torres (Piqionne)

I've already done Arteta > Nani this week as my free transfer. Now that Adam and Brunt look like they could miss out and Walcott may not start is it woth taking a 4 point hit to get a new midfielder in or should I just ride out the storm. I only have 0.1 in the bank. I was thinking of maybe getting Jarvis in for Walcott so that I can then afford to get Vidic in for Zhirkov next week?

      That article also says:

"But we will leave it right until the last minute Saturday morning. It is not as serious as they thought it was in the Scotland set-up but it does feel a little more sore today."

Nani looks set to go up tonite & if so then I need to get him in tonite for Arteta leaving me 0m in the bank. Dilemma is that I will still have to play one of Malouda and Torres - which one should I play? Alternatively, I could play Arteta and sell Malouda for Nani on Saturday - thoughts appreciated

get rid of Arteta tonight, playing deeper, no longer the lone ranger on set pieces with Baines, and play Torres, who would you be playing instead of Malouda?

Aha BUT johnny but but but, Arteta was never hogging the points scoring wise, his attraction was his consistent 3 Bps by commanding play at the back of the midfield. People are wetting their knickers because he hasn't got this in 2 games, but he'll still get them more than most with a nice 5-6 points total. I'm keeping.

Must admit I am at a total loss for choosing between ACole, Malouda and Drogba. I was set on Malouda for a long time, but Drogba's malaria form and the loss of Terry to injury has leveled the field again. Bollox. Opinions, quick fixes and vitamin injections welcomed!

As in who to get rid of I assume? I would say Malouda, his form has been dipping for a while now, and whole Chelsea's form is poor, there are other midfielders around who can do the business. I got rid 3 weeks ago and it has been plain sailing without him, no doubt about it, he will have some big scores now and again, but in general, too inconsistant

I think I need some more strikepower, I've got Elamnder and Carroll (who I want to keep) but I would like to get rid of Piquionne.

    Piquionne 5.1 + Bank 4.2 = 9.3

    Suggestions?

I have to say I agree with what RBJ is saying about managers saying their players are out for the weekend and then them turning up on the teamsheet. I want Adam to play this weekend of course but I have Freddie P coming in if he doesn't, who may not do too badly so I may be coming from a less biased viewpoint.

Managers do want to get their point across and what better way than to publically criticise a foreign FA, without really criticising them!

I want some news on Rooney, I really want to bring him in, have freebie, want to get shot of Drogba for a few weeks anyway (I can sell for 13.1 as I only got him back again recently)
