Roberto Manicini’s City side cruise past the banana skin thrown down by Mark Hughes and his Fulham outfit at the Cottage. Up at Ewood meanwhile, it’s another setback for Gerard Houllier as Villa are kept at bay by a resolute Rovers following a couple of Morten Gamst Pedersen strikes. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s events…

Blackburn put in a stout defensive performance in their 2-0 home win over Aston Villa, with a series of impressive Paul Robinson saves mainly responsible for the clean sheet. Nikola Kalinic was dropped as Jason Roberts led the line in a game that saw David Dunn manage his first full game of the season. After next week’s trip to Old Trafford, Big Sam’s team have a kind run of fixtures that read (WOL, bol, WHM, STK, wba) and look in good form; this was their third win in four. Morten Gamst Pedersen, in particular, looks a player worth considering; his match-winning brace means he has now returned 4 goals and 9 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in his last four league games.

An overnight illness kept rising star Marc Albrighton out of the Aston Villa line-up, forcing Ashley Young back into midfield, with Stephen Ireland coming in to play off a lone forward. Robert Pires came off the bench to make his debut for Gerard Houllier’s side, but the injury-decimated Midlanders are far from full-strength right now. Known for their defensive solidity under Martin O’Neill, Villa are struggling to keep opponents at bay; they’ve earned just one clean sheet in the last six games.

Carlos Salcido and Chris Baird returned from injury for Fulham, but the Cottagers were blown apart by visitors Man City. Mark Hughes’ side had only conceded two goals in their previous four games, but the gulf in class was alarming at times. Fulham have now managed just one win in their last ten games and with both Bobby Zamora and Moussa Dembele out injured, look toothless up front. Three critical home games in the next five (BIR, ars, SUN, liv, WHM) could help their cause but Hughes’ side are perilously close to being drawn into the relegation zone.

Man City brushed aside recent claims of negative football by putting four goals past Fulham in their most impressive performance of the season. Talisman Carlos Tevez grabbed two goals and one assist in a display that saw him pick up the maximum 3 FPL Bonus Points. That haul makes him the Premier League top scorer and puts him just a point behind Bolton’s Johan Elmander in the FPL Forward rankings.

A deflected Zoltan Gera goal meant City conceded for the first time in four games, but Joe Hart was rarely troubled as their back four continue to look impressive. Interestingly, full-back Aleksander Kolarov was also taking corners, which could give him the edge over other City defenders for an upcoming run of games that reads (stk, BOL, whm, EVE, new, AVL). James Milner and Adam Johnson were again benched as Yaya Toure impressed in an attacking central midfield role for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hmmm. Tough decisions to make.

    Do I hang on to Drogba hoping he comes good, or just buy Tevez already and go without Drogba for the next few weeks (possibly until second wildcard in Jan).

    Id imagine if Drogba has one or two more blanks, his price will plummet and it wont cost me much more to get him back at some point.

    Rivals all have Drogba and Malouda (as do I)

      Diff to say. May policy of not taking hits is not paying off. 3 weeks ago i planned on bringing KDavies in for his kind run of fixtures. Carroll was going to get the chop but then he started scoring and I did not have the balls to drop tevez/drogba.

      Things would have looked a lot diff if I did Drogba-->Kdavies and not alex-->ACole. Disaster.

      On Drogba - He could/should have had 3 goals vs Birm.

      James - Nice steady ranking. I notice you are not scared to take hits. You did the Alex-->kolarov trade that i should have done. Nice.

      You think it's worth to do ACole-->Kolarov this week? maybe also ferg-->lee for 4pt hit?

        I havent taken many hits Inalize, although lately they have paid off well!

        Didnt watch the Chelsea game but kinda figured that for Foster to get 3 bonus Drogba/Malouda must have been OK. Heard it was 22 shots to 1. Thats just unlucky (but awesome that they have dropped points).

        If I were you I'd just do Elmo->Kolarov perhaps (wait and see if Elmo starts - if he doesnt he should be your first order of business). Difficult call though!

        I really want Tevez, but for who? I'm loathe to sell Drogba, especially since both rivals have him and I know how he can burn you. Big game player too.

        Thanks! goeie môre

          That's the problem at the moment. In hindsight Tevez/Elmander or kDavies/Carroll was the way to go for the last couple of games.

          Most though have either Carrol or a bolton striker.

            Well Carroll is a season keeper, I never look at his position in my team.

            Drogba was another who I thought would be a season keeper, but Tevez is doing the business.

            Elmander has such good form and fixtures that ignoring him (or Kevin Davies) is difficult!

            This seems like a job for... CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT!

      Well, my advice weeks ago was to sell Drogs. The problem for most of the owners who've kept him appears to be twofold.

      Sacred to drop him invariably meant they were too sacred to captain anyone else either, as the Drogba owner fears nothing more than not captaining him the week he and Chelsea go ballistic.

      So they've probably had close to 2 months of poor captain's scores whilst people who gambled on ditching him to go with form have been forced to find alternative captains, which by and large has yielded better results.

      I imagine most who still have and continued to captain Drogba every week have seen their mini league leads and world rankings suffer too. Which is probably why they are now wondering whether to sell.

      Drogba does appear to be coming into some form again, but his fixtures remain tough for a while yet.

      I think that if you've stuck it out this long you may as well stick with Drogs now as he and Chelsea will come good again. And you'll be wanting him back the moment he scores again anyway.

        I kept him and Malouda, and the rest of my team has carried me along just fine (apart from 1 or 2 bad weeks).

        I will keep them the whole season barring injury, Im just that stubborn 🙂

        They will indeed come good again, of course. Tough fixtures, yes, but they have an exceptional record against top opposition

        It's more of keeping Drogba because it'd be hard if I wanted to get him back in again. Doubt many players actually captained Drogba everyweek.

    Good morning lads,

    What do we consider a true differential? 10% or less ownership? 15%? What's about the right line to be considered a differential.

      doesnt depend on ownership imo, at least not 'total ownership'.

      many people playing the game are inactive, and a differential can only really be assessed as such amongst active players.

    Not going to trade unles I really need to, so will have 2 freebies in GW16 and plan to do:

    Cech -> Foster
    A Cole -> Kolarov

    Leaves 4.1 in the bank (+/- price changes) and I can then do Etherington -> VDV in GW18 after Tottenham have played LIV, bir, CHE.

    After this gameweek, Chelsea have a shocking run: EVE, tot, MUN, ars, BOL, AVL.

          The 1st & last look like clean sheets to me. The Bolton bubble could have burst by then. Games 2-4 are the tricky ones. Everton trouble Chelsea so you have a point. The biggest factor is Terry out rather than the teams they are playing.

                What a finish, but not good for my stress levels though! Glad the Pats managed to hold on this time as it was begining to look like last year's game when we also lead 31-14 going into the 4th qtr and choked it away.

                  I don't think so. Should reach the playoffs but then the youth could freeze.

      I can't lie Tevez is making me itch. Think I'll hold onto him though, too good a player not to score goals eventually. Then everyone will want him back.

      I also think he is a big game player and there are some big games coming up

          Lol. I didnt watch the whole game. In the 5 minutes I did watch, Drogba had a 1-on-1 that he fluffed. On another day he woulda probably scored. Damn Foster on my bench!!

          same for me.
          Going to do Elmo -> Kolorov (hoping no Champs/Europa league injuries)
          It was you saying that you would prefer to have VdV than Malouda for the long term that did it for me. + the fact that i still have Drogba. It's not going to help me catch up that much...but might just stop me from falling further behind! Sounds like Gyan just has a dead leg? should be good for Wolves's generous defence!

    I got 77 points this week. And Coleman is my last player tonight. Saturday night I was out having a beer and I transferred out Drogba and in Elmander.. Am I sick? I have had Drogs since the 1 week, and am soooo tired of his lack of goals now.. but it has to come one day for him?

    But elmander is facing blackpool at home in what I expect to be an orgie of goals.

    should I consider a four point hit to bring Kolarov in? I'm afraid his price will increase before next gameweek..

      I'd be tempted to keep Drogba if he's the only Chels attacking coverage you have. Watching highlights of the Brum game it looks like he's finding some form again...could have had 3 on another day (Foster's save from his header for instance was ridiculous...!). Seems a shame to have kept him during his malaria spell, only to ditch him as he nears getting better...?

    64 with Foster on the bench & staying away from VDV, could have been a great week 🙁
    I'm just so tempted to get rid of Drogs for Elmander. OK, Didier will score soon but he takes so much cash... I could improve GK, DEF & MID by getting rid & Bolton ain't gonna stop scoring all of a sudden.
    Drogs -> Elmander
    Barton -> VDV
    Alcaraz -> Kolarov

    4pt hit would leave me with:
    Foster Hahnemann
    Bosingwa Konchesky Kolarov JEnrique Jones
    Nani Fabs Adam VDV Malouda
    Elmander Carroll Tevez

    Yes or no?
    (I will wait for European games though :))

        Played well, Man City keep plenty of clean sheets, he is very attacking and takes corners too.

          I read he had a great game. Is he a rotation risk? Is he why Boateng didn't play?

            Most players are rotation risks at Man City but I think he should be as nailed on as possible if fit.

              I think he's nailed on yeah.
              Might just avoid a hit doing Mal->VDV & getting Kolarov... I like Malouda but it's him or Drogs out as I need cash for my defence

              For who though? I have Boateng in another game. Should I be getting rid of him?

                I was under the impression that Boateng was a right back who could also play left back if required.

                That means his direct competitor currently for a starting role is Zabaleta.

    Some help choosing the best transfer option would be greatly appreciated.

    My team:

    Carson Mignolet
    Jones Konchesky Enrique Tamas Coleman
    Fabregas Nani Bale VdV Barton
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

    £1.6m in the bank.

    I'm thinking one of the following...

    a) Mignolet -> £5.6m or less keeper
    b) Enrique -> Kolorov
    c) Carroll -> Davies / Elmander

    Not keen on breaking up my front 3 but dont want to miss out on the Bolton form / fixtures.

    Defence / keepers is obviously in need of some work so am leaning towards a or b.

    Anyone know why Givet only played 45mins? Injured?

    My only defender from a team who kept a clean sheet and he gets subbed at HT and scores 1! :-/

      Someone said he ran into the referee & got injured. I have him also. 🙁 Might need him next week or else I might have to buy another defender.

        Yeah he collided with the ref but played on and went off at half time. He was apparently ill at half time, possibly as the result of concussion I heard somewhere.

        They should have hooked him anyway, as he couldn't handle Downing at all.
