Roberto Manicini’s City side cruise past the banana skin thrown down by Mark Hughes and his Fulham outfit at the Cottage. Up at Ewood meanwhile, it’s another setback for Gerard Houllier as Villa are kept at bay by a resolute Rovers following a couple of Morten Gamst Pedersen strikes. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s events…

Blackburn put in a stout defensive performance in their 2-0 home win over Aston Villa, with a series of impressive Paul Robinson saves mainly responsible for the clean sheet. Nikola Kalinic was dropped as Jason Roberts led the line in a game that saw David Dunn manage his first full game of the season. After next week’s trip to Old Trafford, Big Sam’s team have a kind run of fixtures that read (WOL, bol, WHM, STK, wba) and look in good form; this was their third win in four. Morten Gamst Pedersen, in particular, looks a player worth considering; his match-winning brace means he has now returned 4 goals and 9 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in his last four league games.

An overnight illness kept rising star Marc Albrighton out of the Aston Villa line-up, forcing Ashley Young back into midfield, with Stephen Ireland coming in to play off a lone forward. Robert Pires came off the bench to make his debut for Gerard Houllier’s side, but the injury-decimated Midlanders are far from full-strength right now. Known for their defensive solidity under Martin O’Neill, Villa are struggling to keep opponents at bay; they’ve earned just one clean sheet in the last six games.

Carlos Salcido and Chris Baird returned from injury for Fulham, but the Cottagers were blown apart by visitors Man City. Mark Hughes’ side had only conceded two goals in their previous four games, but the gulf in class was alarming at times. Fulham have now managed just one win in their last ten games and with both Bobby Zamora and Moussa Dembele out injured, look toothless up front. Three critical home games in the next five (BIR, ars, SUN, liv, WHM) could help their cause but Hughes’ side are perilously close to being drawn into the relegation zone.

Man City brushed aside recent claims of negative football by putting four goals past Fulham in their most impressive performance of the season. Talisman Carlos Tevez grabbed two goals and one assist in a display that saw him pick up the maximum 3 FPL Bonus Points. That haul makes him the Premier League top scorer and puts him just a point behind Bolton’s Johan Elmander in the FPL Forward rankings.

A deflected Zoltan Gera goal meant City conceded for the first time in four games, but Joe Hart was rarely troubled as their back four continue to look impressive. Interestingly, full-back Aleksander Kolarov was also taking corners, which could give him the edge over other City defenders for an upcoming run of games that reads (stk, BOL, whm, EVE, new, AVL). James Milner and Adam Johnson were again benched as Yaya Toure impressed in an attacking central midfield role for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I am thinking of doing the same thing, but I really like Torres fixtures after this week. I am Doing it to be able to afford VDV, and I think elmander/vdv will outperform torrres/adam.
        It is close tho.

As a Villa fan I can only dream of Benzema coming, it could never happen, Benzema is world class and Madrid to Aston is a long way to fall, big clubs would be queing up for him.

I've got more faith in Chelsea playing "hard" fixtures than liverpools easy run without Gerrard. After all, their result at the weekend was against an extremely poor West Ham side.

25 - The move for Yaya Touré's goal against Fulham involved 25 passes; the most for any goal in the Premier League this season. Teamwork.

Had a bit of a nightmare selection with all my midfield /attack doing well, but went for Hart + Toure leaving Foster + Dann on the bench.

And with Bardsley to come in tonight, i have Tim Cahill up against him.

O'Shea out and Rafael / Gary Cahill in this week i reckon.

Tim Cahill out for Fabregas once the former's points scoring dries up.

What is the likelyhood of Arteta being rested - Moyes did take him off early last game. Was he pissed at Arteta or what?

Moyes is really not in the position to rest anyone imo. He can't afford to leave players out because of bad form. If Arteta's got a niggle or something though is a whole different matter. Haven't heard anything about it.

Your team looks decent but you do need to sort those forwards out (ouch).

Not sure how much cash you got but... try and lose where you can. Ones to look at, given fixs ahead...

      Elmander
      Gyan
      Tevez

I would prefer to see what happens with Rooney. But think you need to cash in on nando to gree up some £s?

I think Chamakh will be the human sacrifice Wenger tosses onto the fire to placate the angry mob of Arsenal fans after Saturday's second half debacle.

RVP is a fans' favourite and I think he'll be starting from now on, with Chamakh limited largely to substitute appearances for a while.

Let's assume it's going to be a goalfest in the bolton vs BPool game.

Worth "wasting" trsfr on Lee and play both or just play Adam(that has not scored for a while)

Trsfr will then be used on getting rid off Elmo.

Not sure which one first or both this week.

Only problem(as Camsy often points out) is then you often have a selection headache. Who to bench out of Lee/NZog/Adam.

BTW - good consistent ranking the last 4 years.

Don't get me wrong, but if I see players like you "struggle" i don't feel so bad. I'ts been helluva difficult this year.

I'm not struggling. Two seasons ago I went for the entire month of November without any of my players scoring a goal. It has been a very weird season though.

Have to say, I try and avoid those sorts of selection dilemas like the plauge. Waste of 1m too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just referring to your current ranking vs where you ended the last 4 seasons.

            Long to go though.

It's my first full season with the help of FFS and it takes away alot of the stress in that we are on top of all the news/injuries etc. Just a pity the capt choices are screwing most of us around.

No. No Europa League this week.

And the fixtures are kind to City.
A win at home to Salzburg a week on Wednesday will confirm qualification, allowing them to rest players at Juventus a fortnight later.

If you think the Premier League is tight this season, have you seen the French League table?!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/france_results/tables/default.stm

10 points between top and second bottom, and 2 points between the top 8.

I hate it when the best fantasy outcome for the 'exciting' Monday night football is a 0-0. Not gonna be able to even enjoy the game.

I think Arteta is playing pretty well. Much deeper at the moment than in previous seasons, but certainly not "in bad form".

Chamakh is playing crap for Arsenal, but scoring loads of fantasy points. Just because Arteta isn't bringing home the FPL points, doesn't mean he's in bad form.

I don't understand Arsenal fans...Last season, he was not signed for Arsenal and all fans could do was praise him..."Chamakh is so great, he should sign for Arsenal"

Now he has signed, and has scored as many goals as Drogba and the majority of strikers in league, but Arsenal fans think that he's pants!

Makes no sense imo. There is no way in hell Bendter would have 6 goals if he was in from the start of the year, and there's no way RVP would have stayed healthy enough to make it to 6 goals at this point as well.

Sometimes I don't understand how people evaluate players, especially strikers...

I think Chamakh is pretty decent, and I'm a gunner.
What more can we expect from the bloke? The only other player to adjust this quickly is Berbatov (for spurs) and VdV!!

First season in arsenal and he's scored how many goals? I'm sure he will get better. His first problem was playing deep for a striker but now he knows where to stay that is why he is scoring more goals. His next step is to brush up his finishing which i believe he will do

Bit early to be planning starting XIs for the weekend i realise - given Champs league etc. But early thoughts on who to play:
    Foster (ful) or Hanhemann (SUN)
    Nzobia (whu) or Carroll (CHE)
    cheers
