Once more Arsenal’s best Stallion has pulled up lame as Cesc Fabregas was withdrawn from play in the second half of Arsenal’s two-nothing away loss at Braga in the Champions League with another hamstring injury. Wenger is quoted as saying (see: 21:50)…

“It’s a hamstring injury on the other leg, and it’s hard to say how long he’ll be out for. He’ll definitely miss the weekend game.”

Given that – as I highlighted earlier in my Frisking the Fixtures piece – Arsenal head into one of their leaner spells when it comes to match-ups this season, a £12m Fantasy Premier League (FPL) investment who is definitely out for the weekend, and maybe longer, with a strong susceptibility to injury is not going to be many people’s flavour of the month. Expect to see Fantasy Managers transferring out en masse…

Samir Nasri will once again peek up onto the radar screens of those wanting to stick in the Arsenal ballpark as will anyone not yet on the wagon hitched to Dutchman Rafael Van Der Vaart, another player who’s had his injury issues this season. Carlos Tevez looks likely to be another key recipient of favour following this news as players look to switch up their allocation of funds from midfield to attack.

One thing is clear, this is happening more and more often with Fabregas now and with him being the third most expensive player in the game – and as Granville points out his “ideal” replacements are also on the sidelines – the transfer world will be aflutter with Fantasy Manager’s sitting on huge stockpiles of funds.

…Emmanuel Eboue also picked up an injury.

What a load of puke. Was quiet happy all along to stick with Drogs/Elmander/Carroll and keep Fabs in the middle. My rival has Tevez as the differential so now i will prob have to go re-jigging and spending points. Again i repeat - what a load of puke.

I'll be doing it. Adam -> Dunn. Adam and Blackpool will be done after this week and Dunn is on pens as well as being involved enough. He is Blackburn's best player and has never disappointed in FL terms in the past.

Is it worth a 4 point hit for fabs -> Cahill and Carrol -> Elmander this week? Was also considering Drogs -> Elmander as an alternative instead perhaps? i know as soon as I sell him though, he's gonna hit a sick vein of form! Any thoughts?

Btw in your position where your not gona get Tevez I dont see why you wont get Bent.

Id like Bent, Tevez, Torres, Elmander, Rooney somehow.

It's true, Stoke away is a dodgy fixture. Might give Balo/Tevez one GW to prove who's the top dog and just start Carroll for old times sakes. Basically, i've not got a clue at the moment.

oooo i don't know man. Man City seem to have the perfect set up for away games and Tevez in particular is thriving. His last few away performances have been top notch. Last 4 scores away from home:

              Fulham - 16 points
              West Brom - 8 points
              Blackpool - 12 points
              Wigan - 11 points

Now do you see the value in Tevez 🙂

of course that also highlights how lame Man City's road schedule has been to this point. Against sun and tot, he pulled double doubles: 2points, 2points.

a bit harsh on him given his performances till now. He could easily score against three of those teams at least. Home to a defenceless Chelsea and inept liverpool and agiasnt a dodgy brum defence. He'll remain in my team until week 17 for sure.

I can't be sure but i'd say Dunn will still be on pens. We've only had one and MGP missed (although it was a cracking good save from Foster) since Dunny has been out injured.

Dunn played the full 90 against Villa but didn't really impress so i'd have to say MGP right now although if they are both on form there really is no contest

The problem with doing Fabs out, Nasri in, is the fact is that you lock yourslef into getting Fbas back when he returns.

Because after all, when Fabs comes back, the player that you currently have will become signifigantly less valuable. I hate locking myself into transfers like that.

To be fair, Fabs is FPL dynamite, but Nasri has been scoring as well as him anyway, so possibly better keeping Nasri and spedning the funs elsewhere, especially given Fabs injury record too.

Was planning to not do any transfers this week and do Cech -> Foster and A Cole -> Kolarov next week. But with Foster just about to rise and already making a 0.1 profit on Cech (therefore a further rise is fruitless) decided to do it 2 mins ago.

Cant believe this Fabs news. I play a cash mini league on a monthly basis. Top at the moment but plenty breathing down my neck. First prize is 90 quid a month. Any ideas on what to do? Simple answer is Fabs to Cahill I think but Tevez scares me to death. I can take a 4pt hit, lose carroll to Tevex but leaves Fabs to only a 6.4m midfielder? Ideas very very welcome...

I just wonder how much this injury will affect him mentally... Wenger and he both mentioned on several occasions his lack of confidence in his hamstring, and now he's buggered the other one too... Will probably set him back a fair bit, which is frustrating because in the first half vs Spurs he was back to his best.

The injury itself, his four yellows and the potential psychological effect mean that getting rid of him is (and was in my case) a no brainer.

Oh, and Arsenal's fixtures aren't exactly good for the next few weeks.

His first half performance against Spurs, was nothing short of imperious.

Good point about the injury possibly affecting him mentally. After his last injury, he clearly played well within himself.

Sorry Fabregas. As a player you're approaching world class. But I've just got to let you go.

It's uber annoying because he was meant to be something of a differential over most mini league rivals.... But he's done f*ck all in 4 weeks, failed miserably as captain a few times, and now I have to take another unwanted point hit to get rid of him!

My team since day one (with 4 mill in the bank) has been based around having Fabregas in it, and he's been a massive disappointment all season.

Do people see Rodwell as much of a threat to Coleman's position? I know that Coleman was dire at Sunderland, but he impressed me a fair bit against Arsenal, and more importantly, he's a wide player whilst Rodwell definitely isn't.

I wish Moyes would just hurry up and drop that liability Heitinga, then Rodwell can play in the middle rather than interfering with Coleman!

I think you answered your own question there! Coleman shudn't be threatened by Rodwell at all and by all means the axe wud fall on heitinga. Only Osman has a say on things as far as the right wing is concerned.

Torres -> Tevez (already done last night)

I could just do Fabregas out for a single 4 pointer, but I don't see any midfielders that I like.

I have Nani, Cahill, Jarvis and Malouda, and I don't want anyone from Spurs or Newcastle due to fixtures.

Malouda and Foster are the only players I am keeping regardless of fixtures, (Fabregas too before his injury).

You're beginning to see that you can't always play the fixtures. It's impossible, because after 2 gameweeks the players with nice fixtures have changed.

You'd really rather have Silva over Van Der Vaart simply because of easier fixtures?

What is this 'something something' you speak of?!

Not having Fabregas in my team makes my head melt. I hate it. He IS fantasy football.

Still, not the end of the world... Man City's home fixtures between now and the end of the season are absolutely ridiculous (as they've already played Chelsea, Arsenal, Utd and Liverpool at home). So going without Tevez, which is what I would have had to do with Fabregas and Drogba in my team, could have been potentially torturous.

Bolton's fixtures rotate perfectly with Wigan and West Brom, so I'll always have two from Odemwingie, N'Zogbia and Lee playing with a nice fixture...

It was either him or Jarvis, and I'd rather go for a Bolton player than a Wolves one. Plus, it gives me some Bolton coverage which could help soften the blow if Elmander goes beserk.

Just reading through some Everton forums trying to gauge the attitude from the fans towards Coleman, and there are so many comments about how poor Arteta was last night, and throughout the entire season.

Grrrr... I want those two Arteta BPs for Cahill!!

Hell no! And if I ever do, it won't be for Torres. I tend not to spend 11+ on players from mid table sides.*

*aside from Gerrard earlier in the season. 😉 Although that was only because it made getting Fabs back in easier... See! That's what Fabregas does to people this season! It makes them have no hopers like Gerrard!! Bleurgh.
