An ankle ligament injury on opening day may have slowed Aleksandar Kolarov’s breakout for Manchester City, but the Serb is now fit and has eased his way back into City’s lineup with starts the last two Gameweeks. Sunday’s outing at Fulham ended up being a mere two-pointer, but it could have easily been the eye-opening double digit Fantasy haul anticipated from the £19 million signing.

For those needing more time to ponder his potential, Kolarov’s wouldas, couldas, and shouldas last weekend presented an ideal outcome – a strong performance which lacked the end product to alert the masses. However, further delay looks a risk, with the Craven Cottage showing undoubtedly hinting at good things to come…

Kolarov’s number 13 has been regularly spotted pushed high up the pitch (think Ashley Cole), and he struck numerous driven crosses from the left flank (think Gareth Bale). He grabbed corner-kick duties on both sides of the field, and continues to be expected to be involved in set pieces. However, the defining moment on Sunday was the scoring opportunity that he failed to convert. With a quick counter-attack developing following a Fulham corner, Kolarov took off on a long run straight up the middle of the park, collecting a pass and beating his man. Kolarov probably would have scored had he struck the ball more cleanly, but it still required a fine Mark Schwarzer save to keep it out.

Separate from the excitement fuelled by his attacking jaunts, Roberto Mancini’s style and City’s two holding midfielders have created a defence that has proved to be a tough nut to crack this season, claiming 7 clean sheets in 14 games. With City’s schedule now softening up considerably (stk BOL whm EVE new AVL BLP), and with the tougher opponents all being at home, Kolarov emerges as a viable selection if he proves, as expected, to have locked himself in at left-back in City’s lineup.

Of course, rotation amongst City’s illustrious squad always remains a potential risk. No doubt, Pablo Zabaleta’s cracker of a goal this past weekend while filling in for Jerome Boateng will leave him in the mix amongst City’s three primary full-backs. However, Kolarov and Boateng look to be the clear favourites to round out the back four (with Kolo Toure and Vincent Kompany in the middle). The alternatives, prominent early in the season – Micah Richards and Wayne Bridge, now look destined for cameo roles.

Kolarov is owned by just 1.0% of the Fantasy Premier League teams and has seen his price fall to 5.7 as would-be prospectors moved on after his injury. At 5.8, Boateng is a comparably priced option, but perhaps without the same attacking potential as Kolarov. Judging by Sunday’s performance, it may now be time to get him in your team before he fulfils that promise and bandwagons start to roll at pace.

I think I'll be getting Kolarov and Vidic, but it means keeping coleman at the moment. Or someone at the same price...

a maximum of 5.1 for a replacement for Coleman. What say you, scouts?

This is also if I stick with Cahill and Lee.

Rooney or Torres decision is heating up..Is bent worth a punt as well? Defoe is in the mix, and RVP is available. One of these players could be the fantasy pick of the season.

    Who?

I think it's quite a bit for someone who has shown no form whatsoever even before his injury. People are selling Drogba for Rooney, touting "lack of form" for selling the Ivorian. How ironic!

Considering that his NTI this week must have already been about 12,000 before last night, and it was always going to accelerate after getting last night's fixtures out of the way and as we get closer to the deadline, it's not many.

I bought him two weeks ago. Got a bit lucky that he started playing full games that very week. I am hoping for at least one big haul before mini-league rivals buy him! They have enough injury/rotation worries to sort out though before they jump on this ship - c'mon Kolarov goal for the 1-0 win this weekend!

    Hey guys,
My defence is -> Vidic Toure Jara Elmo Faye
With the latter 2 not playing and Jara not likely to get more than 1 point, should I:

    A. Elmo>Kolarov and double up on City defence
    B. Elmo>Cahill
    C. Elmo>Bardsley (my main rival has him and he's in front...)

    Cheers.

You think so? Has Turner been playing all this time? I know Bramble is a loss, but I'd iamgine with Gordon, Richardson and Onouha AND great fixtures, they may just be OK. Bardsley at 4.3 - cant go very wrong!

Ah OK. A worthwhile point to consider though! Alas there isnt a better option for 4.3, is there? Especially since the injuries will more or less secure his place for a while (or is he still at risk of Ferdinand taking his spot)?

Still wouldn't be a surprise tbh. I think he could keep it going, but eventually the over-playing and lack of a pre season will catch up in a big way. So may even be a blessing in disguise for VDV owners if he misses this one.

as jaask/gordon rotate well, would it be worth me sticking with gyan/elmander longterm (so not considering torres), could then have a strong 5 man midfield and rotate those 2 strikers unless one of the midfielders has a toughie?

I am always too scared to bench a striker, so always play 3 4 3. I'm not really a fan of Gyan.

Im not sure rotating strikers work, especially as Elmander is an away specialist, you'll just end up frustrated when the striker u leave on your bench scores.

they do rotate well, but Foster/Gordon is a better pairing. Bolton havent been keeping very many clean sheets! I'll be playing Jaask this week, but wouldnt be surprised if he YET AGAIN got 2 points while Foster pulls an unexpected cleanie out of his ass

sorry I misread. I dont think Gyan or Elmander can be benched every second week. If you have either, you have to play him. Buy a really cheap midfielder like Ferguson so you dont have this dillemma. He starts every wekk, plays 90, birmingham often get cleanies so thats a dependable 2/3 points, plus quite a lot of bonus!

3 stars is worthy enough I suppose

      Ah...another Milijas fan eh?

I signed Milijas two weeks ago when lots of people went for Jarvis. Jarvis has done better in the two weeks so far, but as long as Milijas gets starts I think he'll start doing the business.

He's come very close to scoring in the last two games and gets plenty of shots in.

With Henry out (and Edwards, Guardiola(?), etc) he should get a prolonged run in the team. The only threat I think is if Mick switches to 4-4-2.

Go for Milijas. You know you want to!
