An ankle ligament injury on opening day may have slowed Aleksandar Kolarov’s breakout for Manchester City, but the Serb is now fit and has eased his way back into City’s lineup with starts the last two Gameweeks. Sunday’s outing at Fulham ended up being a mere two-pointer, but it could have easily been the eye-opening double digit Fantasy haul anticipated from the £19 million signing.

For those needing more time to ponder his potential, Kolarov’s wouldas, couldas, and shouldas last weekend presented an ideal outcome – a strong performance which lacked the end product to alert the masses. However, further delay looks a risk, with the Craven Cottage showing undoubtedly hinting at good things to come…

Kolarov’s number 13 has been regularly spotted pushed high up the pitch (think Ashley Cole), and he struck numerous driven crosses from the left flank (think Gareth Bale). He grabbed corner-kick duties on both sides of the field, and continues to be expected to be involved in set pieces. However, the defining moment on Sunday was the scoring opportunity that he failed to convert. With a quick counter-attack developing following a Fulham corner, Kolarov took off on a long run straight up the middle of the park, collecting a pass and beating his man. Kolarov probably would have scored had he struck the ball more cleanly, but it still required a fine Mark Schwarzer save to keep it out.

Separate from the excitement fuelled by his attacking jaunts, Roberto Mancini’s style and City’s two holding midfielders have created a defence that has proved to be a tough nut to crack this season, claiming 7 clean sheets in 14 games. With City’s schedule now softening up considerably (stk BOL whm EVE new AVL BLP), and with the tougher opponents all being at home, Kolarov emerges as a viable selection if he proves, as expected, to have locked himself in at left-back in City’s lineup.

Of course, rotation amongst City’s illustrious squad always remains a potential risk. No doubt, Pablo Zabaleta’s cracker of a goal this past weekend while filling in for Jerome Boateng will leave him in the mix amongst City’s three primary full-backs. However, Kolarov and Boateng look to be the clear favourites to round out the back four (with Kolo Toure and Vincent Kompany in the middle). The alternatives, prominent early in the season – Micah Richards and Wayne Bridge, now look destined for cameo roles.

Kolarov is owned by just 1.0% of the Fantasy Premier League teams and has seen his price fall to 5.7 as would-be prospectors moved on after his injury. At 5.8, Boateng is a comparably priced option, but perhaps without the same attacking potential as Kolarov. Judging by Sunday’s performance, it may now be time to get him in your team before he fulfils that promise and bandwagons start to roll at pace.

Guys can you look at my team and suggest if its worth me keeping Cesc benched for a couple weeks until he is back? Im fairly happy with my squad for next 2 gameweeks and dont want to take a hit getting him out only to have to bring him back in again. Reason I want him is that he covers Arsenal well as getting in RVP is a nono right now with ELmanders form, Tevez is a permanent fixture for me and teh 3rd slot will stay Drogba forever.

      very similar team to mine.
Im thnking of keeping Fab on the bench this week for what it's worth. Front 7 then picks itself! (was going to have to choose between Carroll or Nzogbia otherwsie).
Thinking about ditching Elmo this week so i can play 3 ok defenders.
I'd ideally like to keep Fab...i still think he's going to win me my mini-league eventually!

Yeah the more I think about it, benching Fabs for this weekend will be ok at least you get more time to assess. If Wenger comes out with an estimate of 3+ games out then ill offload him but until then im happy with Lee, Pedersen, Nani and VDVs fixtures.

You got NZog too who is awesome. Who you ditching Elmo for? If you have 5M you should look at Salcido. Check his and Koncheskys fiture rotation for the next 10-ish games its awesome! Plus both have assist potential.

The problem with Fabs is that Wenger has recognised that he needs to be used sparingly when he is fit again - and he may decide that he needs to play him for some or all of the Champs League qualifying decider or the Carling Cup quarter-final hence less game-time in the prem.

So far he really hasn't justified being in my team, I'm not removing him until next week as I'm not willing to take a hit but he's too expensive with too little form.

If he starts playing well on his return I'll place him in, deal with the increased price and hopefully acquire some points during his injury time.

I a probably keeping Fabs benched. It is looking like he will be out for 2 GW's and I would bet on him being back for the Man U game after that. I don't really want to use 2 transfers taking him out and back in when my defence needs attention!

                Gordon
                Bardsley, Onuoha, da Silva/Mensah Ferdinand
                Welbeck, Cattermole, Henderson, Rishardson/Zenden
                Bent, Gyan

Sorry Mummy not included. Or if Gyan falls to be fit then Welbeck upfront and possibility for Mummy to play.

Questions on my defense lineup. I have:

    Foster/Jussie
Vidic/Hangeland/Konchesky/Samba/Coleman and .1 in the bank.

I can get 4.6 for Coleman, so I'm looking for a 4.7 DF to bring in for Coleman.

Suggestions on that, or maybe 2 moves (I have 2 free transfers this week) to upgrade to maybe a Man City or Chelsea defender.

    Right,
Transfer crazyness time. With Arsene saying today that Fabregas might miss only 2 weeks, I might drop him to the bench and wait out the storm.

This leaves me with a transfer to use to shore up my awful defense...

    Jara - Kolarov - Williamson - Kyriagos - Coleman

Only the first 2 are in with a good shout of starting. Anyone suggest a transfer? I have 0.6 m in bank.

I'm so tempted to take a hit next week.

Got a decent lineup for this week so don't need to, but starting next week...

Thinking of dropping Cole. He's so expensive for a defender, and I don't think there will be many cleansheets over the Christmas period. January wildcard is going to make a humongous difference.

    How does this sound?

    Cole > Kolarov
    Carroll > Torres

Starting to get frustrated with it, not because Nasri isn't a good choice, but because it messes with my team dynamic.

Now, in order to get Torres or a high-end striker, I need to get rid of Ashley Cole, and that looks like a high price to pay.

4 point hit to bring in Davies/Elmander or play Etherington BUT i'm already playing Jones.

Harewood's been ruled out for 6 weeks so it would be him who got the chop.

Ok, I think I have made my decision. MGP is coming in to replace Fabregas, and that of course means that I don't have to do the transfer until next week, when MGP's fixtures fall into order.

          Taking Fabs out.

Who should I bring in? Leaning towards Cahill. Their next 3 home games are rather easy and he is playing as a second striker. Any thoughts?

Another thought......My captain materials this weekend are: Elmander, Nani, Vdv, Cahill (if I bring him in) and Drogba.

I am falling behind in my mini league and most of them got rid of Drogba. Wouldn't that be worth the punt to captain him? Newcastle defence doesn't look too concincing these days. Missed Barton and Tiote last game and Coloccini will be out this weekend. Or are Chelsea just to much shit right now to justify making the Drog a captain?

Although I dont have Drog he's a good shout. He's surely due to score soon and I think Chelsea will bounce back soon. If your rivals are selling then why not. With this season I've yet to pick a good captain though and I mean at all so pehaps dont listen to my advice

Bare in mind Cahill is off to the Asian cup but may be around a little longer if moyes has his way (around end of Dec). other then that he'll be in the points i'd expect.

I'd go with Drogba as your captain, Fact is he's gonna hit form again before long and Newcastle are also without Williamson at the back so are in good shape for a thrashing. Drogba looking good last week too.

Slight chance the games up north may get called off though!

          Alcaraz + Fabregas to Kolarov/ R D.Silva + any midfielder
          OR
Alcaraz + Carroll to Kolarov/ R D.Silva + K.Davies and keep Fab benched for two weeks??? Also would be doing Kolarov + vdv but my rival has just done that exact transfer so not too sure about following suit as im weaker around the rest of the park so hoping differentials might save me. Keep checking the site, but my personal prediction is that you won't know until you see the team sheets on Saturday afternoon. It can't help the situation that Lennon was so effective when he played the other evening.

I reckon if you get him, even a few minutes before the deadline, it will be a gamble.
