An ankle ligament injury on opening day may have slowed Aleksandar Kolarov’s breakout for Manchester City, but the Serb is now fit and has eased his way back into City’s lineup with starts the last two Gameweeks. Sunday’s outing at Fulham ended up being a mere two-pointer, but it could have easily been the eye-opening double digit Fantasy haul anticipated from the £19 million signing.

For those needing more time to ponder his potential, Kolarov’s wouldas, couldas, and shouldas last weekend presented an ideal outcome – a strong performance which lacked the end product to alert the masses. However, further delay looks a risk, with the Craven Cottage showing undoubtedly hinting at good things to come…

Kolarov’s number 13 has been regularly spotted pushed high up the pitch (think Ashley Cole), and he struck numerous driven crosses from the left flank (think Gareth Bale). He grabbed corner-kick duties on both sides of the field, and continues to be expected to be involved in set pieces. However, the defining moment on Sunday was the scoring opportunity that he failed to convert. With a quick counter-attack developing following a Fulham corner, Kolarov took off on a long run straight up the middle of the park, collecting a pass and beating his man. Kolarov probably would have scored had he struck the ball more cleanly, but it still required a fine Mark Schwarzer save to keep it out.

Separate from the excitement fuelled by his attacking jaunts, Roberto Mancini’s style and City’s two holding midfielders have created a defence that has proved to be a tough nut to crack this season, claiming 7 clean sheets in 14 games. With City’s schedule now softening up considerably (stk BOL whm EVE new AVL BLP), and with the tougher opponents all being at home, Kolarov emerges as a viable selection if he proves, as expected, to have locked himself in at left-back in City’s lineup.

Of course, rotation amongst City’s illustrious squad always remains a potential risk. No doubt, Pablo Zabaleta’s cracker of a goal this past weekend while filling in for Jerome Boateng will leave him in the mix amongst City’s three primary full-backs. However, Kolarov and Boateng look to be the clear favourites to round out the back four (with Kolo Toure and Vincent Kompany in the middle). The alternatives, prominent early in the season – Micah Richards and Wayne Bridge, now look destined for cameo roles.

Kolarov is owned by just 1.0% of the Fantasy Premier League teams and has seen his price fall to 5.7 as would-be prospectors moved on after his injury. At 5.8, Boateng is a comparably priced option, but perhaps without the same attacking potential as Kolarov. Judging by Sunday’s performance, it may now be time to get him in your team before he fulfils that promise and bandwagons start to roll at pace.

Taken my first ever 8 point hit. Leaves me now 32 points off my league leader which is annoying. Current team for GW is:
    Foster
    Cashley-Coleman-Toure
    Nani-Nzog-Cahill-VDV
    Carroll-Elmander(c)-Drogba

    subs: AlHabsi-Brunt-Elmo-Simpson
Not sure whether to play AlHabsi over Foster but apart from that, does the team look okay for the week?

Scary thought is that for the next GW I am already planning a 4 point hit of Coleman & Elmo to Konchesky & Kolarov!

Cheers, Konch is definitely the priority. Haven't taken a good enough look at fixtures to see if I would like to bench 2 of my front 8. That is the only situation I would also bring in Kolarov.

Currently sitting pretty at the top of most of my mini-leagues and, snow permitting, thinking of bringing in Drogba for the Newcastle game as all my rivals have him and don't really fancy watching him get back to form and miss out on our manager of the month prize.

Will wait for him to drop again before doing something like:
Carroll and Fab out, Drogba and Gamst Pedersen in for 4 point hit.

Then would be benching Robinson, Mummy, Djourou and GP for GW15, (Nani captain).

Madness, or a sensible move? Concious my defence is beginning to look a bit suspect!

So alternatively could bring just bring in Kolarov for one of my more rotation risky defenders.

Your strikers look good. But keep an eye on the under-priced Rooney and Torres in the coming weeks.

Right now, I would strengthen that defence.

Djourou out for Kolerov/Jagielka/Baines/Squillaci (from http://bit.ly/FFadvUK)

Or , you could wait for Chelsea press conference. If Bosingwa starts, your defence might be alright for another week and you could transfer
      Fabs out for Cahill/Arteta/

But that just delays yr defensive problems for another week. Better to sort them now.

so, in effect, if say 3 players from your starting xi don't play through postponements, then they are substituted by the three players on your bench. this can turn out to be a massive advantage if you have a strong squad, and the 3 players that come in have scored well for that gameweek; the 3 players who have been substituted out will of course have to play their fixture again. does this make sense, and if so, is it the way it works?

Would appreciate a couple of thoughts from people...

My team is looking extremely shaky with Fab, Elmo, Coleman in it, and Alcaraz who I think is suspended this week. Thinking about using my wildcard as seems a prime time to use it as I need to beef up my defence.

    Current team is:

    Foster/Hahnemann

    Vidic - ENRIQUE - ELMO - Alcaraz - COLEMAN

Nani - Van der Vaart - Jarvis - FABREGAS - Adam

    Elmander - Tevez - Carroll

Those in capitals to go to:

    Foster / ?????

    Vidic - Konchesky - Kolarov - Alcaraz - Tamas

Nani - Ven der Vaart - Jarvis - Cahill - Adam

    Elmander - Tevez - Carroll

Although this still leaves me with shed loads in the bank so could do better with a bit more thought...

    Seem sensible?

Hmm. I have already made one change (a hasty Malouda > VDV) so it would be 16 but you weren't to know that.

I guess with a lot in the bank before making any changes (5.3) I'll take your advice and just make 1 or two changes more this week and 1 or two next week.

i have elmo and im keeping hold for 2 weeks at least, they have wolves and west ham and the general consensus on their forum is he'll start with zenden out. up until 2wks ago he was bein linked with the top prem teams so if he gets a game he may get a run

i have cahill but i dont think nows the time to bring him in but can understand why people would

i like the konchesky and kolarov plans as im doing the same myself but they both will probably get 2 pts this week so no rush

your team doesnt look that bad maybe one more change if u really want to

I think I need to change at least one defender or I'll be relying on both Elmo and Coleman playing which is risky (as Alacaraz is out and don't want to play Enrique).

I'll take what you said on board, mix it with a bottle of wine, and do something completely random tonight at 11.32

The wife watching the news this morning:

"How many Ashes tests are there?"
    "Five"
"England have lost the first one. It says they're playing again tonight."

    Sigh.

Ha! After three disastrous weeks, I asked my two-year-old daughter who I should captain.

She pointed to Foster. Against Chelsea. I patted her on the head, said "how cute" and went for someone else. Foster = 11 pts. My choice = 2 pts.

        Ho hum.

I have Will'son, Bramble, Fab, Brunt & VDV. D'oh. Add in the ? over Coleman, could be a crap GW.

    I'm thinking Bramble->Kolarov, Fab->Cahill/Arteta

Cahill scores more, but Areta always gets bps. I'm tempted for Arteta for the differential. Any thoughts?

If Real just deny everything, what can UEFA do? Presumably there is absolutely no hard evidence... There doesn't seem to be too much that UEFA can actually do.

Yep, snow postponed a few games last season and the snow is still falling in Newcastle. Make sure you have a good emergency captain.

Word is that the Forest Green game is going to be cancelled because of a frozen pitch. It's a little annoying because I was planning to captain Reece Styche in my Blue Square Premier fantasy team, but now I'll probably end up transferring him out.

Has anyone looked at Koncheskey + Salcido combo? They alternate perfectly for absolutely ages, are both cheap, assist potential and in relatively defensively set up teams!

There is that, only reason I suggested is that there seems to be some spare money about because this season a lot of mid priced players are doing well.

    1) Is transfering Cahill and Lee in over-doing it, concidering the Asian Cup and the thought of having to transfer them both out at some point?

    2) Is having Toure, Kolarov and Tevez an overkill?
