The Watchlist – Morten Gamst Pedersen

Three wins in their last four league games means Blackburn Rovers once-stuttering season is now firmly back on track, with Morten Gamst Pedersen, in particular, being pivotal to their recent resurgence. The Norwegian has scored four in four for Sam Allardyce’s men, including a brace against Aston Villa on Sunday, and all of this after getting punched in the heart by Joey Barton.

Pedersen’s recent outstanding form has allowed him to sneak up the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings somewhat un-noticed. Priced at £5.7m, he costs the same as Charlie Adam and has, like the Blackpool playmaker, also scored 65 FPL points, yet Adam has been selected by a whopping 18.1% of Fantasy Managers in comparison to Pedersen’s meagre ownership of 1.7%. The Norwegian’s credentials as a real “differential” is shown by the fact that his FPL points total also tops the far more popular (and equally-priced) Fantasy selections such as Matthew Etherington, Charles N’Zogbia and Chris Brunt.

Outwith a difficult trip to Old Trafford this upcoming weekend, fixtures are certainly on Blackburn’s side right now; from Gameweek 16 their next five games (WOL, bol, WHM, STK, wba) are all definitely winnable. A good run of form before the New Year would push Rovers up from mid-table mediocrity and perhaps persuade the club’s new Indian owners to splash the cash in the January transfer window, which would surely be the perfect Christmas present for Big Sam.

Pedersen is bound to be a vital participant in this potentially significant run and is in irresistible form, picking up 9 FPL bonus points in his last 4 games. The player himself has identified the spurt in form to a change of position that has seen him come in from the left-flank to a more central role.

“I’m playing in a different position now, more central rather than out wide as I played five years ago…It’s going well for me and that’s five goals in five games if you include the international match last Wednesday. It’s hard to say what has happened, but I worked hard to turn things round. Now I’m really looking forward to that next game at United”

Pedersen goes to United having scored a brace in a Rovers victory back in 2005. While a repeat performance may be too much to ask, Pedersen is undboutedly on a high and continued returns after the United game look a strong possibility.

    This forum is crap to be honest. 75% of the time I get an error message when trying to make a post. 'Duplicate comment' or 'Posting too fast', I can't post URL's that are relevant to the article either. Annoying especially as I've paid the membership fee, would've at least expected a forum that works.

    Someone posted yesterday that WBA have not let in a headed goal all season so far.Most are jumping on Cahill wagon, but he scores most of his goals with headers...when will that end..hhmm.

      Inalize.

      Tim Cahill scores with his head against the best defences in the world. I would imagine he ranks amongst the best headerers of the ball, so I wouldnt read too much into those stats there. Have you seen what a bullet-header Cahill has? Plus he is basically a midfielder playing striker, with two easy home games in the next three - cant really go wrong!

                A bit negative as Defoe may take penalties. I dont see it having a negative effect though - Defoe is a great striker and Tottenham will score more goals with him than without...

                  after the match this week Redknapp said that Defoe didn't fancy taking a penalty. That's why Bale did. VDV has been an excellent penalty taker and clearly Defoe has no problem passing the buck. If VDV plays he takes pens...I suspect Defoe will take them only if VDV is not on the pitch.

        Hi James. I know, watched the Sun/Eve game and Cahill should have scored 3 at least.

        He does play very advanced and that's nice. Just worried he is going to run out of "luck" with all these headers, but as you say he is prob best header in world.

        My Fab repalcement will prob only be for 3 or so games anyway.

      I have Ethers as a bit of a relic from a few GW's ago.

      I probably wouldn't actively look to get him in now as there are better options around, but his fixtures aren't terrible and the fact he is on pens means he is a good option (not that Stoke get many).

      Pennant also starting to take set piece duties from him which has seen his points dip.

      Games only got postponed last year because we had excessive conditions, it would take something pretty drastic happening for that situation to happen again.

      We are not quite at big freeze level like last year and I doubt any PL games will get called off this week.

          The problem is not the pitch (except for Portsmouth). It is all about the safety of the fans; if it is deemed dangerous for them to go to the stadium, the game will be called off.

          Although in general the PL might want to avoid last year fiasco, when games like WH/Wolves were called off while it was not even snowing - I think they will do their best to play the games (on top of that for che game, sky will put pressure to have it on)

    Hello

    My team is going weaker and weaker, altough I've been doing quit all right so far.
    So what do you guys think of these ideas ( I really hate hits, but someone have to talk me out of these...);

    fab => cahill or lee (-4) which one?
    If new - che is postponed, then I'll prob do fab + etuhu to cahill + lee cos drog and caroll would also be out.
    But if that match is not played I prob have to do also enrique/alcaraz to koncehsky with another hit........oh well, this "question" became a real mess, just like my team right now!

    Btw I've already done elmo to kolarov...

      Pedersen could be injured, also do you think rooney or ballotelli will play the full 90 minutes?

      Also you are playing begovic but backing two man city forwards to get points against him?

        Honestly, just don't want to drop Begovic. He's the best keeper I've seen play in a long time, he makes Stoke watchable. My season keeper.

        Realistically, I expect city to hammer his goal -balotelli with at least 4 shots on goal.

        Not looking for a cleansheet from Begovic, just a lot of saves.

        Rooney and balotelli love to shoot, and that's why it's so hard to drop rooney for torres. Torres has an unreal run of fixtures coming up and maybe the cold weather will do him some good, since he did nothing all summer.

        As for Pedersen:

    Hey guys, quick question for you, who would you pick for the next 3-5GW from the following transfers;

    Fabs--> T.Cahill or C.Y.Lee or MGP
    K.Jones--> Elmander or Davies or Tevez

    Due to a load of cash in my bank i can do any combination of the above. I was thinking Cahill and Tevez, but Boltons form is interesting me. What you think? Or do you have a better option?

    Thanks in advance.

    Forgive my bordom leading to this post, but Im looking at a 3-4 week plan as I think about tinkering with the look of my team, just cut fabs and was thinking hed be the last guy i bring back in in this scenario. Keepers stay put, otherwise....

    Current team:

    Cole, Konchesky, Coleman, Dann, Simpson

    Nani, Malouda, VDV, Cahill, Brunt

    Drogba, Elmander, Carroll

    3-4 weeks from now:

    Kolarov, Konchesky, Bardsley, Dann, Simpson

    Nani, Malouda, VDV, Fabregas, Ferguson

    Rooney, Tevez, Carroll

    I know a million things can happen between now and then but I like the idea of having a weekly 3-4-3 with ferguson as a permanent sub and starting whichever 3 defenders who have the best fixtures, instead of just putting cole in every week. Any thoughts? Pretty please?
