Jamie Carragher’s 450th Premier League appearance was definitely one to forget last Sunday, with the centre-half suffering a dislocated shoulder in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. His replacement Sotirios Kyrgiakos may have been on the end of a rollicking from Carragher for being slow to get warmed up to replace him, but with the Liverpool vice-captain now reportedly sidelined for up to three months and a long-lasting calf injury still keeping Daniel Agger out of the running, you can be sure that the big Greek will be ready and raring to go in this unexpectedly prolonged run at the heart of Roy Hodgson’s defence.

It is the Reds favourable upcoming fixtures (AVL, new, FUL, blp, WOL, BOL) that make Kyrgiakos such a particularly alluring prospect. After a torrid start to the season Liverpool have finally -albeit at a stuttering rate- started to climb the Premier League table and Hodgson must surely see a promising pre-2011 run as the perfect opportunity to get their season back on course and draw a line through what has been a problematic year for the Anfield men.

At a colossal 6ft 4in, Kyrgiakos is always an aerial threat and has scored two goals in just six games so far this season, finding the net in both his Anfield league appearances. With the club still awaiting Fernando Torres’ bravura performance, Joe Cole having a frustrating period with form and niggling injuries and Steven Gerrard temporarily sidelined, they will rely on the lofty Greek to be a menace in the box at every given set piece.

Priced at just £5.1 million on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Kyrgiakos could be the ideal bargain defender to allow you to spend your budget on a big money move in midfield or attack. Also something of a Bonus Points magnet, he’s been awarded the maximum three points on two out of his five full appearances, which -considering the current lack of clean sheets knocking about- perhaps gives him the nod over similarly-priced team mates Paul Konchesky and Martin Skrtel for anyone considering Liverpool defensive cover.

His Fantasy ownership, a mere 1.1%, only adds to Kyrgiakos’ appeal, suggesting he could well just turn out to be the perfect “differential” over the next few Gameweeks as the season heats up for the Christmas period.

IAN HOLLOWAY'S Blackpool are confident they will beat the big freeze for the visit of Manchester United on Saturday despite having no undersoil heating.
The Bloomfield Road pitch has been covered all week even though the Fylde coast has not seen the worst of the wintry conditions.

Even so, temperatures are unlikely to rise above freezing over the next three days.

A club spokesman said: "We've not had the snow they've had in other parts of the country. We've just had a ground frost.

"The pitch is covered and we've not got any worries at this moment."

Last season i would have agreed with you, but i think Nasri has even more potential when Cesc is playing. Nasri is making a lot more 'Ljungberg' runs this season and with Cesc providing he'll get a lot more goals. He represents great value for money and is in form.

There's no guarantee that he'll actually be in the side though... In fact, after playing 90 minutes tonight, I'd be fairly confident that he won't.

Mancini loves the midfield trio of De Jong, Barry and Yaya Toure, Silva and Tevez seem to be first choice, so that leaves Milner, AJ and Balotelli fighting for the final slot the majority of the time.

Seeing the discussion about MGP and Dunn puts me off both - indicates that going forward neither one of them is likely to be THE main attacking threat for Blackburn, a not-very-attacking team anyway. Set pieces and points could be shared.

More interesting in my opinion is the Zog - if and when Wigan score you can almost guarantee that he is involved. I had a look at some heatmaps and he is everywhere, left, right, middle, always near or in the box. And he seems to be playing for a big transfer in Jan.

The only thing holding me back is the chance of Wigan games getting rescheduled. Is it true that they did not have undersoil last year but got it now?

Also I know the point about fixtures but I think over the next 6-8 games Wigan's are almost as good as Blackburn. I would just favour Blackburn clean sheets over Wigan but not in terms of goal threat.

You "would favour Blackburn clean sheets over Wigan but not in terms of goal threat"?? Wigan have scored 11 goals this season in 15 matches, that's right ELEVEN! Blackburn are hardly banging them it but still managed 18.

NO ONE scores less than Wigan

Fair enough mate can't argue with the figures. I guess I meant more in terms of the fact that the Zog is involved in everything Wigan does whereas with Blackburn it's more likely to be spread around.

By the way, didnt know you support Blackburn. What's the general feeling about the new Indian owners? I'm from India and am meeting them next week to discuss what their plans are.

The way FIFA representatives take kick backs and sell tickets to touts you would think they would love to work with the Russian mafia. If England get the World Cup there will only be trouble, either terrorist attack or football hooligans. Usually there is a friendly welcome for opposition teams in other host Countries but in England the opposition fans will get a riot of a welcome especially when there will not be enough tickets to go round as that is inevitable so hooligans will just get drunk around the stadiums and parks and when England lose as they will most certainly then it will be vandalism and damage. Terrorist attack or Hooligan attack there will be one big mess if England get the World Cup. I bet Osama is also plotting an attack on the Olympics when its in England already so thats another mess waiting to happen. Surely there are better things for Cameron and Prince William to be doing than loving it up with Beckham and Coe. His Country has so many problems and where is Cameron he's partying with Prince William and Beckham. All they had to do was to say to FIFA we will host it if you want but if you want us to kiss your arses then pee off to another Country we have bigger fish to fry. Bonkers.

Camzy I know you have Nasri, but do you think there is any value in doubling up with VDV -> Arshavin? Arsenal have 3 home games in the next 4 (altho away at manutd and home at chavs).

Over the next few weeks Arshavin can be swapped for Cesc and Nasri swapped for VDV.

          I don't like Arshavin much.

He's inconsistent, doesn't take set pieces, and has competition for his starting position. That said, anyone who's capable of scoring 4 goals away at Anfield can never be discounted.

              Why not?

He's in good form and scored a nice freekick against Ireland.

I think he'll do fine. In any case, I'd like to take a bit of a risk, so I'll probably go for him or Kuyt.

I didn't know West Brom's fixtures are so nice!

Brunt might be a better choice than I originally thought...

Still, I'm with MGP at the moment. It's worth taking a risk and not getting Bale.

yeah true, I'm a bit worried dunn may take away from MGP, could push him out on to the wing and not sure but might he not take set piece duties as well?
Brunt is tempting as he's been their main man all season and as you say fixtures are nearly on par with mgp except for villa away but he can be benched no probs there.

            Brunt has 4 yellows

I got in Nasri this week for VDV

thinking of Tamas/Jara to Kolarov for -4.. other defenders are GCahill and Coleman

So theres a report outta Blackpool that they feel the game will not be in danger of being postponed? Surely this bodes well for the other fixtures, maybe Sunderland a possible issue up north?

I need to be committed for the transfer i made last night. To beat the price drop, I got rid of VDV for who?.....not nasri, not bale, not MGP, but the unavailable for this weekend Gerrard.

How batshit crazy am I anyway? A raving lunatic. the Marquis de Sade wasnt this out of his mind.

Looking at the cut-price alternatives for Fabregas and VdV. Surely Nasri and Bale are the obvious choices? Got rid of Fabs last week and brought in NZog but I can bring in Nasri this week for Adam as well as VdV -> Bale. Sounds like a good idea? If I was happy with Fabs and VdV with the upcoming fixtures, surely these two fit the bill perfectly.

It has been the common solution for those players, so common in fact, I decided to roll the dice and go for differentials, especially because of Spurs tough fixtures IMO. I figured id go with the likes of cahill and gerrard, and go back to vdv in the new year, using my WC if i have to. That being said nasri and bale should be running the offense while fabs and vdv are on the shelf. You probably did the right thing and Im probably going to kick myself down the road.

Yeah you're right they're the obvious choices.

But I'm starting to think Bale isn't the best choice. His returns haven't matched his performances, and he doesn't have the easiest of fixtures coming up. Surely he can't sustain his incredible run of form. He'll hit a dip eventually, and with VdV out, it's very possible that this dip could happen now. Add on the fact that he has extremely high ownership, and suddenly, he's a bit of a lazy pick with very little potential for gain.

I'm thinking I want a player that not as many people have. MGP and Kuyt are currently on my watchlist, with MGP slightly edging it.

I think your making a lazy pick with MGP , the boards have gone bonkers for him. Not sure why

          Hardly lazy.

The boards aren't indicative of the wider market, and they're also by no means unanimous on him. In fact, I've had to answer so many people questioning him in the last week.

More people are getting Bale and Nasri in than MGP. TotalFPL will tell you, and I guarantee that it's the same here as well.

MGP's a very solid choice in his own right. The only drawbacks is that he plays for Rovers, let's face it. And that's not really a drawback if you look closely. Did you know that Rovers have scored in every game in the league except two? One of them was a 0-0 draw with Sunderland after going down to 10 men.

What arguments do you have against him?

The only one I can think you can pull is the injury, and believe me, he's hardy and he'll play.

      No thanks.

      1. His goalscoring record is no better than Arteta's.
      2. He isn't on set pieces.
      3. Tevez hogs the BPs.
      4. He assists the assist.

Why can't people see that the likes of Joe Cole, Luka Modric and Silva are fantasy no-nos?
