Wolves’ Kevin Foley has finally started to live up to the pre-season hype and jumps onto our Watchlist as a legitimate defensive option following a haul of two goals in the last three starts.

A right-back by trade, Foley was frequently pushed into the midfield last season to accommodate the emergence of Ronald Zubar. His versatility has continued to earn him midfield assignments this season, despite his “Defender” classification in Fantasy terms. In his most recent outing, Foley started on the right of midfield against Sunderland, before switching to a central role when Stephen Hunt entered the game. He took his goal clinically and also served several crossed balls to torment the Black Cats defence as Foley figured prominently as part of a more attacking Wolves approach.

In addition to his “out of position” (Oop) status, Foley has continued to demonstrate leadership qualities on and off the pitch; he was handed the captains armband in the absence of Karl Henry and spoke out to defend his manager Mick McCarthy earlier in the week. Foley has clearly cemented his role in the starting lineup then and his record of 14 starts from 15 far exceeds the nominal requirement of a beating pulse that is typically requested of any 3.9 FPL defender…

Foley’s recent run of form also finds him stepping up for Wolves at a critical juncture. It is not hyperbole, given their schedule, to consider the next 6 games as a make or break period for McCarthy’s men. To put it simply, Wolves must get results over the next six Gameweeks (bla, BIR, wba, WIG, liv, whm), as fixtures stiffen up considerably after that (CHE, mcy, LIV, bol, MUN, ars, BLP, TOT, avl).

While Foley’s recent goals and “out-of-position” status have garnered attention, transferring the Wolves man in at this time could well be a classic case of chasing points. Foley is far from a prolific goalscorer and the recent production could be little more than the fortuity of being in the right place at the right time; it is also unclear if he will retain his advanced position on the right of midfield or revert to a full-back role. Foley’s potential must also take into account the fact that the Wolves defence is hardly a popular horse to back. They have yet record a clean sheet this season and therefore Foley stands a regular risk of being docked a point for conceding 2 or 3 goals (as Wolves have done in 10 of their 15 games).

Owned by 14.2% of the FPL teams, Foley is currently seeing a mini-flood of investment due to his recent goals. In contrast, Danny Simpson of Newcastle – another 3.9 defender currently garnering regular minutes – is owned by only 2.0% of FPL teams. If you’re choosing between them, Simpson has no attacking returns in his 7 games since gaining a starting role, but Newcastle have at least recorded four clean sheets. Wolves have demonstrated strong attacking intent over the past few Gameweeks and, at a time when clean sheets are so hard to come by, let alone predict, the promise of attacking returns from Foley could be the deciding factor in his favour right now.

With game postponements becoming more of a concern as we head into a cold winter, both Foley and Simpson offer all we can ask from a 3.9 defender – a bench option who will play regularly and present some chance of Fantasy return when called upon in an emergency.

If im honest im just not a fan of jarvis (despite his admirable point returns) or wolves i dont think i could ever look at myself in the mirror again if i started a gameweek with a wolves player in my eleven. Im happy to have one on my bench if theyre very very cheap i.e foley

Should I take a 4 pt hit to transfer out VDV?

    Foster (Jaask)

How much value do you stand to lose if you get rid of VDV? I'd probably get rid of Fabregas because having 12 million wasted on the bench for a few weeks doesn't sit right with me.

Do any of you working class englishmen following the ashes not feel a bit weird. Ive always considered cricket to be an elitest sport, difficult (but not impossible i know) to become a part of if youre not from a priveliged or at least above working class background and so have always resented it along with tennis and golf (and rugby to an extent). This is a genuine question not just anti-cricket banter.

Sorry i should have made it clear that i meant within england. I actually think the indian approach to the game is beautiful. Young kids getting together playing a sport they love, no posh members clubs and dinners just a pure love of the game they play. A poor kid in india can rise to the top of the game and most if not all top indian players grow this way, naturally and organically. Unlike in england where for the most part unless your dad is already a member of the local club or if youre from a 'decent' enough school to actually play cricket in P.E you wont even ever be exposed to cricket other than from afar on the t.v like me and many people who share my background or have a similar one

I guess you must have just had that little bit more exposure to it than most people of my background. Iiterally couldnt see past footy as a kid because it was the only sport that just naturally entered my life i seriously mean that i really wouldnt have known how to go about joining a club or getting into it in any serious capacity or ever known the rules. It just isnt easily accessible to people in my position.

How is your position any different to mine as a kid? I never joined any clubs either but that was due to a lack of talent rather than any social exclusion. I dont know how we differ so much really. The local kids on my block didnt play cricket, their parents didnt, we didnt play at school. I honestly didnt even know it existed till i was a lityle bit older at which point the nearest club (which admittedly i didnt even want to join) was in a neighbouring much posher neighbourhood where i genuinely would have been so out of place it would not have been possible for me to join without embarrassment or ridicule. To someone like me and many others a cricket club is as intimidating as a dressage club may be to a cricket fan

All fair enough. I think the thing is not so much class as exposure, if it is seen as 'what different people to us do' then it easily gains a stigma. But believe me, its a fantastic game to play, all the strategy of chess but you're outdoors. 🙂

I do think that the cricketing structure in this country has improved dramatically-I reckon it's far better than the footballing structure now....

As for exposure, in inner cities it's probably a lot harder, given the necessary space requirements....

Sorry, but in my experience that is complete bull- hence that slightly irate first response. My local club lets anyone play as long as they help out with any pitch preparation (if they are available) and pay a relatively small (£10) annual match fee. Most people there are I guess what you would define as working class- although as Gazzamania says it's not necessarily right to pigeon hole people.

I dont know what the mcc is. I have deliberately tried to indicate that im just speaking from my experience and im not claiming to be 100% correct on the issue. I have even admitted that it may be a personal thing. I cant help what i think.

Sort of, it's a normal view of someone who hasn't had any real dealings with the game. We didn't play too much at school (from Rugby League country) but I always loved playing it, really great craic. I joined an amateur Bangladeshi team in Kilkenny (Ireland) there the other year, a pal of mine from Antrim and I were the token white guys 🙂 Absolutely brilliant. Generally I have always found it a great sport to watch and even more so to play.

I really do believe that class is a big factor in everything in england. As an example you wont find many working class people in the members bar of a cricket, golf or in particular tennis club. It may just be a personal hang up of mine i dont know

          maybe you are right.

still, one might do quite well arguing that class is more of an ethos that people choose to subscribe to, and not necessarily something one is caught in. couldnt one just as well be embarrassed for letting such a cognitive divide bar one from following these so called sports (sorry, had to have a dig 😉 )

Yeah, I was very, very close to going for Arshavin when I made the transfer, and to be honest the main reason I went for Nasri is because a couple of mini league rivals have him and he's been annoying me recently. That and his value will probably increase more than Arshavin's over the next few weeks.

Ultimately they are both good choices, and I'd expect their scores over the next few weeks to be fairly similar.

    Foster
    Shawx Foley Konchesky
    Nani Malouda Zog Arteta
    Drogs Elmander Carroll

    Bench: Hanheman Adam Elmo Coleman

    a) Thinking Arteta > MGP
    b) Maybe Coleman > Kolarov for a hit but that I thnk can wait
    c) Maybe Tevez but he’s on 4 yellows
    d) Really fancy Bent and Torres to do well this wk but not sure if I’d drop one of Drog/Elm/Carroll for either for a 4pt hit

    Advice appreciated.

I'd probably do something to get a defender in. Foley and Shawcross aren't the sort of defenders you want to be playing in away games, so Coleman to Kolarov seems like an absolute no brainer to me.

Assuming the game goes ahead, playing Adam is always a decent bet when Blackpool are at home, so I wouldn't be particularly keen on taking a point hit for a midfielder so you don't have to play Adam.

I'd much rather have Kolarov in my team than MGP, so I'd probably go with b). As for the forwards, it probably isn't the consensus view here, but I would get rid of Carroll before either Elmander/Drogba, and have personally got rid of Carroll. Newcastle's fixtures are terrible until the second wildcard, and teams' primary focus when playing Newcastle will be to negate Carroll, so his returns could (hopefully) diminish.

Neither Bent nor Torres particularly interest me at the minute, and it's not worth the risk in transferring Tevez in when on 4 yellows, so I'd just go ahead with the Coleman to Kolarov transfer, and wait until next week to get rid of Arteta.

    Suggestions?

Seems unnecessary to get rid of Jara before a home game against Newcastle, especially for a point hit. That's exactly the sort of game that you want to play him in, although to be fair he's hardly scored well in similar games so far this season.

Along with Simpson, he's easily the best cheap defender option around, and WBA's home fixtures are favourable for a while. I wouldn't (and don't, I have him too) want to get rid of him at all, especially for someone who could easily lose his place when Agger returns to full fitness.

VDV to MGP is a fine, and popular, transfer for this week. I'd just go with that.

Good point about Jara, but I think he should get a Liverpool defender in, so possibly loas a different defender to get Konchesky/Skrtel/Greek.

Even for a hit, the Liverpool defender would be long-term up to around GW27/GW28, so it's worth it.

Maybe so, but there are probably defenders in mullenlad's team that I'd sooner get rid of than Jara...

Now you mention it, your link isn't working mullenlad. Presumably you still have your ID from last season set up.

I'd go for Konchesky over Kyriakos, as Agger's return may see the big greek get dropped to the bench.

Do you think that Kolarov could turn into the next Jose Enrique? Bags of points potential, but none of his crosses get converted, CS's get blown due to other kunts' mistakes and the bonus judges don't watch the games that he's involved in, unless he's playing Chelsea.

    VdS
    Skrtel Kolarov Rafael Coleman
    Bale Etherington Kalou Nani (c)
    Elmander Odemwingie

    Bench: Schwarzer KDavies Hughes Fabregas

Is it worth playing Coleman in the off chance he plays and has some part in scoring against Chelsea? My other option is K Davies, but then I'm doubled up on Bolton and it works against Kolarov.

I don't get this, so if you didn't have Kolarov, you would play K Davies, but as you have Kolarov, that makes you think that Davies has less chance of scoring and so you bench him?

You think Coleman will score as high as 2 points, despite being a defender playing against Chelsea at the Bridge?

I guess you must think at best Coleman will get 2 points for 90 minutes, 3 points for an assist, -1 for a yellow and -2 for 5 goals conceded.

Well ... since you put it like that :p

It just seemed a bit wrong to be doubling up on Bolton attack while also supporting Man City defense. But you're right, Davies still has a much better chance of getting some points.

My midfield has scored 90% of my points in the last 2-3 gameweeks, so I'm not that worried about him. I'll probably just keep him.

        Thanks guys!

I don't like the later stages of Half-Life 2, it didn't get that difficult, and that base where the bearded bloke resided, was a piece of pie with that gravity gun that allowed you to kill enemies with one touch from it.

Helicopter bosses get boring after a while too.

But the first ten hours of Half-Life 2 are awesome.

Oh yeah, it adds variety alright! The majority of the adventure constantly throws great gameplay at us, and just in case we were all getting bored with the majesty, the developers decided to throw in a boring section at the end, that while having good graphics, was dull, empty and too easy.

Nice to have something different to 'spice' it up! 😀

I guess, but then why couldn't they put this 'variety adding' part into the middle of the game, so that it didn't cap the game off in such a poor way.

How many helicopters do you fight from HL2, HL2E1 and HL2E2? I can think of at least 4.

Hopefully HL2E3 will be a good game, and then HL3 can become the greatest game of all time when it gets released.

Helicopter fights that I can remember:

1.) Helicoptor when you are on the swamp bike/boat thing near the start of HL2.

2.) A helicoptor when crossing the large bridge in HL2.

3.) and 4.) in the final battle of HL2

5.) In that room with the wooden roof in HL2E1.

There's probably a couple of other times too, in addition to those flying ships that you have to take out with the rocker launcher, I find those bits really dull.

    Hey everyone,

My team at the moment is:

    Foster, Krul
    Vidic, Bosingwa, Coleman, Dann, Konchesky
Adam, Nasri, Nani, Van Der Vaart, Cahill
    Tevez, Elmander, Carroll

I have 1 free transfer and 4.6 in the bank.

Some players I was thinking of bringing in are Bale/Berbatov/Rooney/Kolarov

Really fancy Berbatov on current form, but I don't wanna make any daft changes.

Who would you guys suggest bringing in this week? Should I take any points hits?

    Thanks!

Berbatov filled his quota last Saturday for at least 8 games

        -Loads

No, no, no, no, no!!! Berba's stats when Rooney's played are top notch.

We have Arsenal and Chelsea up soon so as a Utd fan, I'm waiting until after those games are out the way before getting either him or Rooney in.

Though, in saying that, Berba and Nani did tear Chelsea a new one in the Community Shield.

    Odds for a Blackburn CS = 7/5
Odds for a Man City CS = 11/10

The odds show that City are more likely to keep their sheet clean.

CONCLUSION: I should play Jarvis over Elmander.
