So Sam Allardyce was sacked? That’s odd. Onto bigger and better things undoubtedly for all; and to cheer us up from this solemn news is none other than a top of the table clash between Manchester United and Arsenal. Perfect Monday evening entertainment.

United revert to their 451/433 formation which has been a success in recent games against Arsenal, five goals in his most recent game isn’t enough for Berbatov to convince Fergie to alter his tactics. Everyone’s favourite tongue teaser Wojciech Szczesny starts in goal for Arsenal as his compatriot Lukas Fabianski fails to pass muster, Cesc Fabregas is only good enough for a place on the bench. Teams in full are…

United XI: Van Der Sar; Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson; Nani, Rooney, Park

Arsenal XI: Szczesny; Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Clichy; Song, Wilshere; Nasri, Rosicky, Arshavin; Chamakh

Whether you are a red or a red, or a neutral, the Dugout Discussion will be open for the evening to take in this battle in full flow.

Andy Leicester won the Premier League. Leicester. Premier League. What is this life? Follow them on Twitter

Arsenal haven't beaten a single team in the top 11, without the help of the opposition having a player sent off.

    Crisis.

    Strange game

Two of my defenders (Coleman and Bardsley) scored the same as my expensively assembled fiveman midfield (Nani, Cahill, Zog, Nasri and Dempsey) - 13 pts

13 BPs last week. 3 this week.

First time all my defenders kept clean sheet all season. Look on the bright side!! 🙂

Wilshere is an attacking midfielder playing as a defensive midfielder due to Song’s habit of conceding free kicks in dangerous positions. We all know hoe Arsenal are at defending set pieces. That's why Song is playing a lot more advanced this season.

Because he is so injury prone a dandelion clock blown in his general direction is likely to injure him again. For once Arsene being sensible and easing him back in. Oh, and Chamakh has been doing ok.

8 Point hit last week: Nasri, N'Zogbia and Samba in = 28 points, three players out = 0 points means 20 points to the good

4 Point hit this week: Milner and Barton out (10 points) Bale and Cahill in = 5 points. That means 9 points to the bad.

RBJ Do you reckon Blackburn will do a Newcastle and up their game against West Ham next week now they lost their manager or will they crumble. I guess its a risky bet just thinking is there some edge there or maybe still hard to tell. Seems some teams up their game for a while when a new manager steps in, although possibility they could crumble. Maybe should put a penny or two on Blackburn and hope they do a Newcastle, worth a small bet as they will be at home and maybe the odds will be better than usual only 1.86 at the moment so not much value yet though.

Just thinking the odds on Blackburn with the bookies should be better than usual as they/you have a bit of turmoil having lost Allardyce but maybe you are right and that is why the odds are still odds on so if the odds go higher than evens then there may be some value.

Rooney hasnt scored for the league leaders and one of the highest scoring teams in Europe in what 10months.

And Berba this years is much better than Berba of other years.

Berba has stepped it up this year. At his worse what will happen? He wont score.

Rooney is being selected on that basis.

I'm not being biased here, but I really don't think that he was. Koscielny and Squillaci marshalled him pretty well throughout, at least up until the last five or so minutes. Rooney was helped by a lack of support though. There were times when the nearest Utd player wasn't within 30 metres of him.

It's true he wasn't at his very best, but I thought he did a good job of holding the ball up and creating space for the likes of Nani....

And thats the problem with our version of the 4-3-3/4-5-1. Fergie played it because it always works against Arsenal.

Absolutely. I have no issue with the team Fergie picked, and it was identical to the team that I said I would have picked...

The formation doesn't get the best out of Rooney, but is perfect for playing against Arsenal. Absolute no brainer to use it.

But that was with Valencia in the side... Having Park and Anderson in support doesn't exactly lend itself to Rooney playing well.

Okay brilliant, he scored a goal, well done him.

I still stand by my point regardless of your one example of a goal he scored.

Yet you are using his one game today as a example of the formation not suiting him?
Btw, i thought his overall play was excellent today. Apart from his bloody awful penalty he was a constant menace pulling those two CB's around and held the ball up well linking up with some nifty one twos. Classic example of seeing what you want to see - from both sides of this argument.

I thought Koscielny had his best game in an Arsenal shirt today. Dominated Rooney for the most part.

He did do well yeah, looked far more solid than usual but he no way dominated. He probably had his toughest opponent of the season so far. If only we could ask him...

Well obviously he did, with just rooney to handle who was stuck upfront all alone for long parts. So i won't really read too much into that. Plus he did play rooney on for his chip effort or was it Squilacci?

Rooney hasnt scored in how many games now?

This is the present not the past. Or would you still pick Bobby Charlton in the team?

Players should be picked on form not reputation.

        There isnt much difference between Anderson's position in a 4 3 3 /4 5 1

and where Rooney plays behind Berbatov when he (rooney) drops deep and leaves Berbatov alone up top.

It's all good if were on the front foot pushing up with 4-4-2(as you said rooney dropping off) or even 4-5-1(even then berbs struggled in the past) but when we drop off and sit back like we did from the start of the second half today do you think berba has the ability, the work rate ot the willingness to work the line alone and stay up there alone for that whole time, i don't think so and he has showed it before. Agreed rooney wasn't profilic either tonight but he did more a than good job today.
