The Carlos Tevez saga took a new twist this evening with City boss Roberto Mancini uttering his first words on the matter since the situation developed on Sunday.
In a very positive statement, Mancini seems convinced that there is still hope of Tevez remaining at the club…
“If Carlos is unhappy, and he’s scored ten goals and played very well, then I hope that he’s unhappy like that all season! But I don’t think he is really unhappy. He can change his mind.”
Mancini goes on to express his desire to keep the striker at Eastlands – again with plenty of positivity…
“Do I want him to stay? Absolutely. He has a contract, and he is our player. It’s my belief that Carlos will stay with us, I think that he will continue to play for us.”
Mancini confirms that he will meet with Tevez on Friday and it appears that the Everton clash on Monday is very much on the agenda…
“I will see him Friday morning. I will say ‘good morning’, and then we will talk. It’s important that we speak, because we have a game with Everton on Monday and other very important games this month.”
There’s no doubt that this latest development comes as a huge positive for Fantasy Managers. Clearly Mancini is set to go all out to persuade Tevez to stay and, from this statement, it seems highly likely that Mancini will look to select the striker against Everton on Monday.
It will be interesting to see how Mancini approaches the issue of the club captaincy but again, tonight’s statement offers such a positive front, it seems possible that Tevez could even keep the City armband.
We can only await further developments; there’s likely to be plenty more to come.
