The Watchlist player rankings have been updated for the Christmas period.

The table can be found in the bottom right corner your frontpage and represent our current ranking of players based on form and their fixtures over the forthcoming Gameweeks.

The update is dominated by the return of two heavyweights, as Tottenham’s Dutch playmaker Rafael Van der Vaart and Man City’s settled skipper Carlos Tevez, blink back on the radar as major considerations for the Gameweeks to come.

Joe Hart holds the top ranking in goal, with three home fixtures in the next five Gameweeks enough to see him keep United’s Edwin Van der Sar at bay. Pepe Reina falls to third then with his Boxing Day fixture at Blackpool in doubt. Sunderland’s Craig Gordon is the high new entry – presenting strong value at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game. Expect another climb for him once this weekend’s Old Trafford trip is out of the way.

Aleksandar Kolarov climbs to the top of the Defender rankings – despite defeat against Everton on Monday night, the Serbian should enough attacking intent to warrant his ranking. Leighton Baines’ form has him remain in the top five and has him climb to second, with Liverpool’s Sotirios Kygiakos dropping to third. Again it’s Sunderland presenting the value here – with Phil Bardsley remaining in our top five.

Chelsea’s Ashley Cole is slowly climbing back up the rankings and could push the top five once the trip to the Emirates has passed. Below him, both Ryan Nelsen and Carlos Salcido are new entries to represent the Blackburn and Fulham defences – Fulham in particular, have fixtures that could see the Mexican and team-mate Brede Hangeland, pick up some profit over the next six Gameweeks.

Nani keeps the top spot amongst the Midfielders once more – his forthcoming fixtures should allow him to maintain that position for a few more weeks at least. Rafael Van der Vaart is the big threat though; the Dutchman is back in contention for Harry Redknapp’s side and has fixtures ahead of him that present the opportunity for him to maintain his impact on the Premier League.

The rest of the top five remains intact with Gareth Bale holding off the charges of Cesc Fabregas, while Frank Lampard’s return to the Chelsea midfield also promotes Florent Malouda. Chelsea’s fixtures after their Boxing Day clash with Arsenal, should give Malouda the opportunity to regain some form.

Carlos Tevez arrives back in the Forward rankings and topples Fernando Torres to second, while Dimitar Berbatov is the big climber – ousting Darren Bent for third spot. Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba and the in-form Danny Welbeck are all on the rise this week. Expect further a further climb for the 5.1 Welbeck once this Gameweek has passed – the Sunderland striker is ineligible for the trip to Old Trafford.

The Watchlist will be refreshed once more ahead of Gameweek 21; there may well be a few tweaks along the way but we will alert you to any updates as they occur over Christmas.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sorry for a re-post but I got no reply so far.
Does anyone know how price-change protections work?
Can I wait until the weekend to buy VdV before his price goes up?

No one is realy 100% sure. Can you not afford a 0.1m increase?

"The Aussie babymaker" is probably your best bet for advice.

If you are using totalfpl for price changes, I would use 200% as the figure where he would be close to a rise. By then he will probably be adjusted to his current % there anyway. The FISO board is down so I can't link you to price change info. Trades for 7-8 days after returning from injury are not counted if that helps. I expect a rise by the weekend.

I’ve currently got Drogba – Elmander – Carroll, and can bring in any striker I like for Elmander after this gameweek. Who do you fancy to score the most points up until the wildcard? Torres? Tevez? Rooney? Berbs? Bent? Wellbeck? RVP?

Yeah I'll be looking closely to get VDV in, still being patient with Malouda, seems silly I know but unless VDV is firing again I'm gonna keep him til WC.. Chelsea have some decent fixtures, plus Lampard is back which may help.. If I get VDV in and he doesnt play, my midfield should have enough depth to cover.. It's going to be hectic nonetheless

    Hi,
Assuming all games are on, who would you bench...Nasri (Che H) or Yaya (New A)? Team is:

    Robinson
    Vidic - Kolorov - Coleman
    Nani - NZog - Bale - Yaya/Nasri
    Rooney(c) - Tevez - Carroll

    Subs: Yaya/Nasri, Konchesky, Bardsley

    Thanks!

Haha just a tad! Nasri at home is the safer option, he's still in great form and with Fabregas back pulling the strings in midfield he should be involved somehow.. Tough choice though Yaya is having a decent run also

    Tevez/Carroll/Elmander

    Subs: Foster/Nasri/Bale/Coleman

Got a busy Christmas lined up so sorting this now.

I envision Bale and Nasri to have blinders now they are on the bench, but I believe the 11 selected is the strongest for the GW.

Well I was thinking to go 3-4-3, but if I'm not going to play The Greek against Blackpool (even though they duffed them up at Anfield), when will I?

Chelsea always seem to keep clean sheets against Le Arse, and Ash got 12 points last season.

But some food for thought though. Thanks for the comment boss.

What's not to get alsy, man city are perhaps the most likely source of clean sheets this season and kolarov is about as attacking as a fullback can be. There's a reason why cole, gj and evra started the season priced at 7.5 - good attacking and cs potential.

I don't think Newcastle will keep a clean sheet against Man City, not after they have been so good away. Out of those 6 you'd probably have to bench Elmander after Bolton's recent drop in form.

He could if he gets on form. He's not as much of a prolific goalscorer as other strikers, he often seems more of a creator than a goalscorer, but last season he did score goals when on form. Also he has to share pitch time with Chamakh now. I too I wondering whether Nasri will still be worth it, when Fabs is back he won't be at the heart of things anymore

Seriously, if RVP stays fit & gets matches he will be worth 10 pts a game easily. Pens/FKs/Corners & BPs... its just that he can never stay fit. Which is why he's such a nightmare of a fantasy player... just keeps tempting you back for more every time you get your fingers burned!

    My team is:
    Jussi
    Rafael/Samba/Kolarov/Konchesky
    Cahill/Nani/Nasri/Bale
    Carroll/Drogba
    Subs: Lee/Bent/Carroll/Foster
Just waiting to hear on Samba/Konchesky. Should Samba be fit, would it be worthwhile to do Bale to VdV, or should I just wait on that transfer?

I am currently one of those mugs with Balotelli in their team.

    I have Rooney - Balatelli - Caroll

I have one free transfer and 1.1 in the bank.

    Im thinking Balatelli ----> Bent/Gyan/Defoe??

Any help is much appreciated to swing me in any direction!

Definitely get Balotelli out, Bent in, he is the biggest goalscorer out of the 3 of them. Defoe is good but isn't prolific enough to earn his price tag. Gyan is second fiddle to Bent in the Sunderland team.

        rubbish about gyan

take a read of teh sunderland forum and see what they think about bent and gyan at present

also if talking fantasy terms see who has most points per game out of bent and gyan

Playing Gary Cahill, Kolarov and Foley, while benching Ashley Cole. Madness or makes sense?

Vidic to Rafael should be a fine move if it gives you the cash to do another move. You've still got the Man U cover for clean sheets over some potentially good fixtures, Rafael looks to be holding is starting spot and so it looks like a win/win to me.

Just working on my tranfer plan for the next couple of GWs.

    GW19: Toure>Kolarov
    GW20: MGP,Elmander>VDV,Torres

Getting Baines in now, would mean a stronger defence this week, but I wouldn't be able to afford VDV for GW20. What do you think?

Great plan. That one with VDV. I am even buying bench keeper in order to be able afford VDV next GW.

Oh look, 3 weeks later, everyone wants VDV back again, surprise surprise. Thats why you keep someone for a short injury 🙂 Mind you I should really of got Cahill in for him, but hey ho.

Know what you mean, I'm also wanting VdV back, but you're right it's a tough call between lurching from one bandwagon to another and having money tied up in injured or underperforming players.

Don't know whether you saw the post from Tosey above, but there is the potential of VdV getting rotated over the busy Christmas period, I guess while he gets fully fit. It's possible therefore Bale will play more and get more opportunities to get points. But you'd be gutted to missed the VdV double-pointer.... Tough call.

Now what should I do with Samba?
    1) ditch him for his partner Nelsen
    2) keep him for a while
    3) go for another Def 5.5 m budget any suggestion?

I think he'll keep playing - especially now Jones is ruled out. I would keep him this week, and see what happens.

    My team is currently

    Schwarzer Carson
    Dann Kolarov Konchesky Coleman Jones
    Malouda Nani Nasri Adam Etherington
    Drogba Tevez Carroll
    0.6m in the bank.

I think my immediate concerns are Schwarzer, Jones and Adam.
Can anyone suggest good replacements? I was thinking either Simpson/Bardsley/Dawson for Jones.

Bardsley is good for Jones since you don't have Sunderland cover, your defence is looking really solid atm, next you'll need to replace Schwazer maybe Robinson since you'll ship out Blackburn Defender.

I was thinking Bardsley, as I will have Kolarov, Konchesky and Coleman for Sundays game, and could bench Bardsley.

I was also tempted to swap Malouda for VDV, and Schwarzer for van der Sar, but after thinking about VDV rotation, I am not too sure.

            How does this team look

            Robinson Carson
            Kolarov Konchesky Dann Coleman Bardsley
            Malouda Nani Nasri Bale Albrighton/Barton
            Drogba Tevez Carroll

I can do it doe a 8pt hit this week, or over the coming weeks!
