Given that every team plays home/away again for the second Gameweek running -depending on where they were playing these last two days- the case of refreshing the Captain Poll ahead of Gameweek twenty-one whiffs of deja-vu. We see a repeated effort, as those catching the eye this week were most certainly on the radar in days just gone…

Roberto Mancini decided to rest his star striker’s hamstrings on Tuesday in a case of opportunity lost as Mario Balotelli took the chance to put a woeful Aston Villa to the sword, Carlos Tevez will inevitably be raring to go after a little break and the visit of the equally penetrable Blackpool defence will see the Argentinean rascal as a leading armband candidate.

Didier Drogba‘s recent form has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price plummet from a high of £13.2m to a now lower than original price of £12.4m, but the Ivorian hasn’t been doing awful by any stretch of the imagination; just perhaps not as well as people wanted for such a heavy outlay. The aforementioned traveling troops of Aston Villa might just afford Drogba the chance to boost an upturn in form. Florent Malouda may also be back in contention after his first goal in ten games in last night’s win over Bolton.

The Liverpool duo of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres play at Anfield once more, against a Bolton defence that rarely keeps clean sheets. That will undoubtedly be on the radar again, although last night’s dismal showing will give Fantasy Managers little confidence – existing owners may well look to back their investment however. Rafael Van Der Vaart may have had a rare quiet day in terms of Fantasy football, but a home game against the weary travellers of Fulham looks tantalising. The only slight doubt nagging in the back of our minds will be the threat of rest and rotation – “Can a recently recovered player start 3 games in under a week?”. Then again, can Harry do without his considerable influence?

Team-mate Gareth Bale bagged a goal and 2 FPL bonus points at home to Newcastle and will always be in the mix for points while those who have hopped aboard the Frank Lampard train nice and early may want to welcome the New Year with a gamble on his prospects against Villa. Last time he faced them at the Bridge he scored four goals.

Throw in Dimitar Berbatov and Nani -if he’s finally fit to return- at West Brom and you’ve got yourself a vast array of high calibre options.

What’ll be your new years resolution then? Keep faith in Chelsea? Never trusting Mancini again? To throw a curveball and captain Cesc Fabregas away St. Andrews? Whatever it is, make sure you head back to the frontpage and get your vote in then discuss with your peers right here.

Right, I have two freebies and I really have so many options, I'm lost. If I took a 4 point hit, I could get in VdV, Fabs & Cleverley for Nasri, Cahill & Dunn. Would have to take Dunn out for Cleverley to afford the other two transfers, it would leave me with this..

    Foster, Jussi
    Kolarov, Rafael, Konchesky, Coleman, Jara
    Fabs, VdV, Nani, N'Zogbia, Cleverley
    Torres, Tevez, Carroll

Not NZog instead of Dunn with his 3 match ban? These days it seems necessary to have a full playable bench.

Can't afford it.. after taking out Dunn I have 4.4 to spend on a midfielder! Doesn't really matter too much though, next week N'Zog can go for Adam I suppose.

Yeah, cheers, I saw him earlier when I was looking for cheap midfielders. To be honest Wigan's double isn't very attractive anyway, Arsenal away I'll be surprised if they score in that and Villa at home looks like a low scoring game also. So is N'Zogbia needed for it?

Tempted to just do Nasri > VDV & N'Zog > Cleverley.

How about this? Do N'Zog & Nasri > VdV & Cleverley this week. Then next week, for a points hit do Cahill > Fabregas & Dunn > Adam for a points hit.

              Fabs VdV Nani Cleverley Adam

Pretty sexual midfield for the next month or so!

it's more for FUL before the double and wba and BLA after the double that i'm thinking. besides he has AVL in the double which is a decent fixture in itself, the extra 2 points from the arsenal game will be a little bonus

Yeah, those fixtures are great but probably not worth keeping onto him still with all the rotation business. I've had him since like GW6 or something so finding it harder to get rid than others but don't really take to his double at all.

Have to post this again, just need a few more opinions if you don't mind guys...

I had a terrible week with this lot, any obvious changes?

    Fabianski (Carson)
    Rafael Konchesky Kolorov (Jara Simpson)
Nani Lampard Fabregas Van der Vaart (Cleverly)
    Berbatov Tevez Carrol

Maybe change Lampard or Fabregas to Malouda or Nasri then improve keepers or defense?

Hodgson a matter of days or weeks??

"He picked a ridiculous side last night. No Aurelio - laughable. Meireles on the right - laughable. A half fit Gerrard busting his gut in our half while we had nothing going forward - poor. Kuyt left midfield in a 4-4-2 - laughable. Agger fit but behind two right footed cloggers - laughable. Long aimless punts for flick ons to an isolated front 2 - laughable. But lets blame the fans for not getting behind the team. The problem is Roy, we have all seen proper managers do the job and pick a balanced side, we know a good footballer from a fulham old boy so don't insult us by saying we re not backing you. It's gone on too long, it's painful and you are out of your depth".

8 of the 14 Liverpool players that featured last night played in the 4-0 win vs Real Madrid....

Kyriagkos playing instead of Agger is one of the biggest jokes of all time. He's such an unbelievably bad footballer.

if the people who turned out to be right in thinking kyrgiakos would play did so on the basis that agger was just back from injury or due to some questionable quotes/mis-quotes in the danish media then fair enough. the problem i have is i feel they actually think kyrgiakos is now this great un-droppable defender when imo is was a complete fluke/travesty that hodgson hasn't dropped him now agger is fit

Just read it all, funny stuff.

I don't know why you both bother, and that goes for myself and MFaulkner etc. We never achieve any thing on here by putting forward our cases forward, either for or against.

You know exactly what I think, Rooney is a very good player and one of the better players in the league, but isn't world class. It's strange how nine months of playing like complete and utter horseshit seems to have done nothing to persuade the delusional Mancs that Rooney isn't all that.

            http://www.inthenews.co.uk/news/rooney-as-good-as-ronaldo-and-messi-says-ferguson-$1360977.htm

If Ferguson says it, then apparently it must be true, at least in the eyes of a certain Alan Partridge. 😕

I daren't even think about the hyperbole we'd hear about Rooney if he actually was on the same level as Messi. The media would probably start claiming that he's the greatest sportsman of all time.

The squad isn't that bad and expectations aren't actually that high. It's not like last season when rafa was expected to win the prem with this squad, top 4 is the aim and with the players we have we should be able to push for that. Roy should go immediately, he obviously doesn't have the team behind him. I'd take rafa back in a second or king kenny as caretaker.

Im sorry but the squad you have is now where near good enough for 4th.

It was better last season and you finished 7th why would you think its better than 16 teams in the league when you have lost to half of them already?

the squad SHOULD be able to push for 4th. Obviously the way we are playing we have no chance, but we are not playing anywhere near our potential. Hence my point hodgson has to go, he doesn't know how to get the best from these players.
Torres can't play to his best in a 4-4-2, especially when there's hardly any creativity in the midfield. Rafa got the best from him and gerrard and it's madness not to play them like that now. Maybe you're right we're not good enough for 4th as tottenham and city and the likes are very strong now but if we had a gaffer that could get the most out of our players there's no reason we shouldn't be playing european football next season.

There are many reasons you shouldnt be playing european football, There are better teams in the league at the moment.
Torres isnt fit and when he isnt your squad isnt much removed from the likes of Sunderland and Bolton who are playing much better now.

Every team can "push" for 4th its a non event. Even Wolves can push for forth doesnt been they will get anywhere near it.

The reason Gerrard isnt being used behind torres is you obviously dont have the protection you once had behind him.

As I said today put Mourinho in charge and things wouldnt be much different.

the meireles business is ridiculous. hodgson chooses to cripple one player in order to accomodate gerrard. if anything play gerrard on the right OR just drop that parkinson's victim n'gog.
no comment regarding agger, it's so obvious it hurts. it's good kyrgiakos played otherwise ebanks blake would have scored his token hattrick of headers

Liverpool need a manager who can still som confidence in the team, roy criticizing the players and now the supporters is not going to help anyone.

The likes of ngog and kyrig are good as bench players, both shouldnt have started the game.

i would have gone with gerrad behind torress in a 433 and then brought ngog on towards the end. Kyrg shouldnt have started or taken off, he struggled a few times in key areas with his tackles.

On the whole the whole team was dreadull, a crap team made worse by low confidence and tactics.

Any Cashley owners thinking of shipping him soon?
Not getting forward as much as the CHE centerbacks need more cover than they did early in the year and last year.
I think the main reason Im keeping him is because I wont be able to afford him back. Paid 7.5 – Sells for 7.9 – Costs 8.3
Going foward dropping him is key to getting in Fabs.

    PMT (Pick My Team!)

Haven't made any transfers from last week and really wouldn't like to since I need to ship in some blackpool players for their double.

    My current thoughts are:

    Hart (Foster)
    Kolarov, Rafael, Terry (Samba, Konchesky)
    Nasri, VDV(c), Nani, Essien (MGP)
    Torres, Carroll, Berbatov

I mean... Torres has to start performing at some point...
    Nani will be magically healed...
Even with Sunderlands injuries they'll still probably win at home to Blackburn...
    Nasri won't be rotated...
VDV will punish me for not (c)'ing him against Fulham at home...

    Right???

Was it not boring always having the same captain?

Yeah...In fact I rarely had him in my team mainly for this reason..plus the fact that I hated him back then

At the moment my defence is like:

    Kyrgiakos Konchesky Kolorov Carr Simpson

Does Kyrgiakos to Skrtel seem like a good move? I only have 0.7 in the bank. I'd like 2 Liverpool defenders for the upcoming double gameweeks but I don't want to delay my transfer really because I don't want to have to play Simpson off the bench if he doesn't play.
