Given that every team plays home/away again for the second Gameweek running -depending on where they were playing these last two days- the case of refreshing the Captain Poll ahead of Gameweek twenty-one whiffs of deja-vu. We see a repeated effort, as those catching the eye this week were most certainly on the radar in days just gone…

Roberto Mancini decided to rest his star striker’s hamstrings on Tuesday in a case of opportunity lost as Mario Balotelli took the chance to put a woeful Aston Villa to the sword, Carlos Tevez will inevitably be raring to go after a little break and the visit of the equally penetrable Blackpool defence will see the Argentinean rascal as a leading armband candidate.

Didier Drogba‘s recent form has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price plummet from a high of £13.2m to a now lower than original price of £12.4m, but the Ivorian hasn’t been doing awful by any stretch of the imagination; just perhaps not as well as people wanted for such a heavy outlay. The aforementioned traveling troops of Aston Villa might just afford Drogba the chance to boost an upturn in form. Florent Malouda may also be back in contention after his first goal in ten games in last night’s win over Bolton.

The Liverpool duo of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres play at Anfield once more, against a Bolton defence that rarely keeps clean sheets. That will undoubtedly be on the radar again, although last night’s dismal showing will give Fantasy Managers little confidence – existing owners may well look to back their investment however. Rafael Van Der Vaart may have had a rare quiet day in terms of Fantasy football, but a home game against the weary travellers of Fulham looks tantalising. The only slight doubt nagging in the back of our minds will be the threat of rest and rotation – “Can a recently recovered player start 3 games in under a week?”. Then again, can Harry do without his considerable influence?

Team-mate Gareth Bale bagged a goal and 2 FPL bonus points at home to Newcastle and will always be in the mix for points while those who have hopped aboard the Frank Lampard train nice and early may want to welcome the New Year with a gamble on his prospects against Villa. Last time he faced them at the Bridge he scored four goals.

Throw in Dimitar Berbatov and Nani -if he’s finally fit to return- at West Brom and you’ve got yourself a vast array of high calibre options.

What’ll be your new years resolution then? Keep faith in Chelsea? Never trusting Mancini again? To throw a curveball and captain Cesc Fabregas away St. Andrews? Whatever it is, make sure you head back to the frontpage and get your vote in then discuss with your peers right here.

Well a point on the Tevez thing is that everyone keeps saying he had a week off.

He hasn't, he's had a gameweek off, which was midweek. If he plays again this weekend then that will just be what he normally does, i wouldn't be shocked if he is rested again, especially if there is an injury.

I'm hoping for some more news.

I wouldn't get rid. If he plays it is a good fixture, and his fixtures beyond this week are good. Plus the alternatives aren't exactly showing form.

For me it's a question of should he be captained or not.

If he was injured he wouldn't even have been on the bench at the weekend. The match was over after 30 minutes so there was no point in bringing him on for the last few minutes.

He will play this weekend and midweek then he will be rested for the FA cup match the following week.

Whatever you say about Roys tactics, if those 11 Liverpool players turned up they could have beaten Wolves regardless, no?

Roy is obviously a capable manager, he demonstrated that last season. It seems to be the modern football way that as soon as the chips are down, the manager gets sacked. Ridiculous imo, stability is underrated.

That said it would be funny to watch king kenny come in and also fail to get a response from that group of players.

I'm sorry, but playing Meireles on the right is unforgivable.

The same can be said for playing Kyriagkos and Skrtel ahead of Agger, and signing Konchesky, whilst selling Insua.

I hate to be diplomatic, i jsut struggle to see how people are so quick to forget how good fulham were last year, compared to this year. You don't acheive what he did there by being a terrible manager.

they weren't that good though. Yes they had a good run in the cup but that just means turning it on in the right games. In the league they were quite inconsistent. The league is the barometer for a manager's ability.

No, they rested players in the league for about half a season because they had nothing to play for and were doing well in europe - very selective point.

They were a hell of a lot better than they are at the moment.

+1. Cup runs - or lack thereof - are no barometer of a manager's skills.

I honestly think torres form is down to him being lost in Hodgson's tactics which has lead to him being unhappy and lacking confidence. Rafa had the entire team playing to torres's strengths and we all know what that resulted in - a shyteload of goals.
Who's scored more is completely irrelevant. The question is who would score more, and play better if the team were playing to their strengths - Torres obviously.

Liverpool go in at half time at 0-0. Dalglish's half time team talk is exactly this:

    Attempt 2

    PMT (Pick My Team!)

Haven’t made any transfers from last week and really wouldn’t like to since I need to ship in some blackpool players for their double.

    My current thoughts are:

    Hart (Foster)
    Kolarov, Rafael, Terry
    Nasri, VDV(c), Nani, Essien
    Torres, Carroll, Berbatov

    (MGP, Samba, Konchesky)

Any glaring blunders? Am rather unsure on dropping MGP if Sunderland really are missing so many defenders...

Could use some advice please guys. Below is a summary of my players that potentially could be missing from GW21.

Injury doubts - Nani, Tevez and Welbeck
Possible rotation - Rafael, Kolarov, Nasri (but as they were rested could equally play)
    Suspended - N'Zogbia
    Out of Favour - Salcido
Potentiallu Out of Favour - Konchesky

Yeah City seem to have strolled into the defensive Big 3 spot, vacated by Liverpool last season.

                  Kolarov, Vidic, Rafael, Coleman, cheapie

that'd be a pretty nice defence for the second half of the season.

It's a refreshing strategy that has generally not worked out tell over the last two seasons imo.

In my first season, 2006/07 I went for an ultra expensive defence founded by the deadly front trio of Marlon King, Leroy Lita and Kevin Doyle and reached a finish I have only bettered once afterwards.

The problem is that for some reason the expensive defenders have not topped the scoring charts in the last seasons that they used to back then. I don't know why this is.

I hope that guy continues to do well.

Right, still scraping myself up off the floor from the last gameweek(s) but I'm getting there (somehow). Insomnia was the supposed transfer in this week but thats gone out the window now..

So much I need to sort. Salcido was clearly a bad transfer, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Konchesky dropped now, Aurelio is due a run and Konchesky has been beyond poor of late.

Liverpool were so poor last night but you simply have to have cover for their fixtures but Torres was a shadow last night, may not bother as I already have Stevie because Cesc went and got 5yellows didn't he. That worked out well too by the way.

I have Rooney and I'd say he is more assured of his place than Berba. But Berba is on form and Wayne was shifted back and/or right against Brum.

If I sell Rooney and Jarvis I can get Berba and VDV. Thinking that way.

      Hello.

Good transfers imo. I've done enough Rooney bashing lately so I'll try to be objective this time - I think we have to wait for him to find the confidence that a striker can only gain from scoring goals. It's a bandwagon I'd rather be two weeks late on, than six weeks early, so to speak.

Berbatov has been quality lately and I see no reason why he should lose form right now. VDV is smashing value and should be in most teams. Not that I have him, of course.... 🙁

Hi Garg. I know what you are saying about the early bandwagon, but if you think you have spotted one at its birth and you leap on then you should go for it. I genuinely thought Rooney was a good shout when I captained him at home to Sunderland - But it all went wrong with everyone else captaining Nani, him not playing and getting the autocaptain. Then I did what you did and captained Tevez this last week which bombed too.

I see you have some deadwood in your side too which needs refreshing - Difference being you are in a good position! Forget the week with the bad weather, the gameweek just gone was my worst in all my years of playing by a long way. 2.2mill. It hurt!

When I say deadwood, I didn't mean to sound like a c*** by the way!! Just with Lee away, Zog unexpectedly banned and Konch fighting for his place theres a couple of transfers you wouldn't have expected to have to do.

            Haha I know 🙂

And you're right, I have a few decisions to make. Might be time for a point hit soon to freshen things up. I've lost confidence in my ability to get them right though so I'm dreading it - and Mancini et al are not helping me with their random rotation! Lee will be out for sure, and then I will see how I work from there. Ideally I'd want to transfer some money from defence to midfield and get VDV in. Somehow I've ended up with a defence more pricey than Joleon Lescott.

Regarding Rooney you make a fair point too, when I buy a player I am reluctant to sell him shortly afterwards too. Who knows, Rooney might very well explode and you will be the one laughing. I heard he was good against Sunderland so you were horribly unlucky there. The emergency captain has fooked us all over more than once lately. I still can't help but feeling that getting Berba and VDV in now would be tasty. VDV just gets so many chances every game and is still not that expensive, and Berbs is the in form player in the team leading the league.

Anyway I should go to bed, good night and good luck.
