Given that every team plays home/away again for the second Gameweek running -depending on where they were playing these last two days- the case of refreshing the Captain Poll ahead of Gameweek twenty-one whiffs of deja-vu. We see a repeated effort, as those catching the eye this week were most certainly on the radar in days just gone…

Roberto Mancini decided to rest his star striker’s hamstrings on Tuesday in a case of opportunity lost as Mario Balotelli took the chance to put a woeful Aston Villa to the sword, Carlos Tevez will inevitably be raring to go after a little break and the visit of the equally penetrable Blackpool defence will see the Argentinean rascal as a leading armband candidate.

Didier Drogba‘s recent form has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price plummet from a high of £13.2m to a now lower than original price of £12.4m, but the Ivorian hasn’t been doing awful by any stretch of the imagination; just perhaps not as well as people wanted for such a heavy outlay. The aforementioned traveling troops of Aston Villa might just afford Drogba the chance to boost an upturn in form. Florent Malouda may also be back in contention after his first goal in ten games in last night’s win over Bolton.

The Liverpool duo of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres play at Anfield once more, against a Bolton defence that rarely keeps clean sheets. That will undoubtedly be on the radar again, although last night’s dismal showing will give Fantasy Managers little confidence – existing owners may well look to back their investment however. Rafael Van Der Vaart may have had a rare quiet day in terms of Fantasy football, but a home game against the weary travellers of Fulham looks tantalising. The only slight doubt nagging in the back of our minds will be the threat of rest and rotation – “Can a recently recovered player start 3 games in under a week?”. Then again, can Harry do without his considerable influence?

Team-mate Gareth Bale bagged a goal and 2 FPL bonus points at home to Newcastle and will always be in the mix for points while those who have hopped aboard the Frank Lampard train nice and early may want to welcome the New Year with a gamble on his prospects against Villa. Last time he faced them at the Bridge he scored four goals.

Throw in Dimitar Berbatov and Nani -if he’s finally fit to return- at West Brom and you’ve got yourself a vast array of high calibre options.

What’ll be your new years resolution then? Keep faith in Chelsea? Never trusting Mancini again? To throw a curveball and captain Cesc Fabregas away St. Andrews? Whatever it is, make sure you head back to the frontpage and get your vote in then discuss with your peers right here.

Just noticed exactly half of Berbatov's points were accumulated in 3 games. 55 of the 110!!

He's looking increasingly lively and likely to be part of my WC team but that stat does worry me.

I guess the conclusion is... if buying him, must play him every game.

I'm considering keeping hold of N'zog though.

I have more pressing priorities, and he has a DGW as soon as he comes back-assuming he's still at Wigan.

              Don't.

With fixture postponements still going on, and mystery injuries to the likes of Nani and Tevez, you need a full squad, and Adam is a great choice to replace N'Zog.

thing with adam is that hell never really get starts with a full strength team

mancini likes playing 4-3-2-1 with 3 DM's and for johnson to play hes gna hve to bench either silva or balotelli which wont happen

I was thinking the same but do we really think they'll be able to put on two home games? GW22 could well give us an out of form pool playing 1 game vs blackburn and blackpool playing no games at all. 😮

From a fantasy perspective it doesn't matter how good a player is if he's not getting enough minutes. There is always a big risk that he will only get 10 minutes and that will suck.

I've a new tactic for captain selection:

Narrow it down to two options, and pick the one I think is the best choice.

Then give the captaincy to the other one. I think it could work well 🙂

Just do what I do. Spend hours deliberating who you think will score the highest, pick them, watch in horror as they are benched/game called off, let the computer select teh highest scoring member of my team. Has worked pretty well for the last three weeks! 🙂

    Weather woe. http://www.metcheck.com/

It looks like the weather is going to be cold - not snowy though, at least in the Midlands - from the start of January. Serious sub-zero temperatures are forecast.

I wouldn't get too excited about the Blackpool double game weeks as there must be a serious chance more of their home games will be postponed.

I wonder what would happen if the pitch was frozen for the best part of Dec/Jan/Feb and only 2 or 3 games played in that time? Would surely cause absolute fixture chaos.

It would. I heard Holloway saying that diesel froze in their hot-air blowers and that this was why they couldn't sort the pitch out.

I'm wondering if these devices can really help, because if the weather is simply cold and not stupidly cold, like the -10C and lower we've seen, then maybe they will be able to sort the pitch out. I'm sceptical that these devices help much though.

      No.

Short term moves rarely pay off, and you're looking at a big loss in value.

If you're going to get rid of Nasri, it'd better be with a very good reason and a long term plan. Also, his fixtures starting GW 24 are great, and if you can get Fabregas in as well, you could be rolling in the points.

True, but short term moves often hit your team value, and you need as much value as you can get going into a wildcard.

Balance is always the key. Balance between building value to acquire heavy hitters down the stretch and knowing when is the time to sell. Drogba went up past 13.2M or so and now is down to 12.4M... etc.

You don't get points for having a high team value. You score points on the pitch. Just ask Kevin Davies, Johan Elmander, and Charlie Adam about their pricetags. 🙂

Of course, but having a high team value gives teams many more options.

I've got 3.0 on a lot of teams, and that's the difference between getting Fabregas and having to settle for Nasri.

Yup - easier to say after the fact, of course, but I don't see a problem with someone selling Bale right now as long as they don't plan on buying him back.

If I bought Bale at 6.5M and he's 7.5M now so I can sell at 7M - sure I lose 0.5M value bit if I have VDV already and use my 7M to buy say, Essien, or Adam, or someone I want to keep the rest of the way through - I don't see a major problem in that. Building value is important, of course, but the captain's armband and the 11 on the pitch are even moreso...

Not that it matters but the # 1 player in the game has a team value of about 105M - healthy, but not amazingly high. I haven't looked at his team too closely but he's probably benefited the most from timely transfers and captain choices, then the value. This season value is less important than before, in my opinion, with the parity in the Premier League.

I don't think team value is less important at all. Look at all the teams struggling to get Fabregas in now after having wallowed in 5.0m in the bank.

My team value isn't even at 105 yet. I'm struggling to get Fabregas in as I already have Tevez & Torres, going to have to sell Dunn for Cleverley to fund it.

          Tevez.

It's between him and Drogba, and I reckon Tevez has slightly more potential for a big score.

However, I've bummed on my captain something like 8 weeks in a row. It's by far the worst aspect of my FPL game, so I wouldn't take my advice as gospel.

              No.

He's played too many games in too short a space of time.

Tevez and Drogba are fitter, and I think they have the easier fixtures too.

I wouldn't get Nasri back unless Fabs got injured. He could easily fall in price in another 24 hours. It would be a Nasri ➡ Malouda (GW21-22) then Fabregas thereafter.

Hi Camzy. I am thinking Nasri to Fabs during the Jan WC, as he did look less effective against Chelsea with Fabs there (I know, only 1 game). Do you think Nasri will still remain effective with Fabs back?

Don't know for sure. Haven't seen an Arsenal game in a long time.

Give him one or two more games with Fabs in the side, and if he still does nothing, it's probably time to ship him out.

I think they are words of Wisdom. Before Fabs last injury, they played well together and from memory, it was Nasri that picked up the 3BPs to Fabs 2. I see like my your captain choices have let your scores down. I assume your transfer this week was N'Zog to Adam? Do you regret shipping out Coleman? I got the feeling he would get less game time (moyes suggestion), so I sold him for Kyrgiakos a few weeks back. Thinking of getting him back now.

              Yes to all your questions.

Selling Coleman was a bad move in hindsight. I was convinced at the time that his stint in the team was over.

Nice to hear that we sing from the same Hymn sheet. I am doing Kyrgiakos to Coleman this week (convinced Agger will now play - please convince me otherwise), and N'Zog to Adam either this week of next.

I don't know if you agree, but not worth getting nay Pool players for the DWG 22, and Adam the only real player for B'Pool worth it?

Put it this way I sold Drogba a month ago (was happy then) and don't want to bring him in now / can't afford him - as I have Tevez / Torres.

I don't have CHE exposure and they have 3 straightforward fixtures. They haven't recovered all of their form but they took a small step against Bolton. Malouda at 9.6M is a good entry point for me into a team that should still be Top 3 at the end of the season. Lampard and Drogba too expensive.

The other option is Essien at 7M. Very tempting but he only scores a goal every 6 games or so - you really need to be lucky for him to score while you own him...

but the money was initially been saved for fabs but nasri will do for a bit prob 😐

rather malouda than essien tbh, chelsea will want to get a ncie winning streak in, mal got taken off not this gw but last gw before 60 though, pretty gay that

I think not, purely because I don't want to be wasting transfers ahead of DGWs and I have quite a few injury/suspension issues.

I was thinking about the millionaire club earlier. How long do you think it will last? I'm guessing within 12 weeks, every single entrant will have had a million week.

All the way means 15+ gameweeks? I was looking at the top 3 and I'm not sure any of them have managed that.

Obviously it depends on the number of entrants, but with a few hundred I can't see it lasting to the end.

When I thought of the idea, the team coming 4th at the time still hadn't had one of those weeks. Whoever wins the comp won't be the best player, just the most consistent to a point. Gives everyone a chance.

Had a quick look & this was the best I could find

Impressive find. That's an amazing season.

One of the factors I think will count against the people who enter the league, i.e. us lot, is that we all seem to have some dreadful gameweeks because of the kind of season it's been.

Consistent performers often seem to be casuals, who lucked out with a solid team of performers they've barely changed. I reckon that guy's team is maybe literally a one in 10,000 effort.

The odds against never being a millionaire member in 15 weeks must be many thousands to one. Someone will have to get very lucky.

If there are multiple players left in the last GW, I take it best score wins? Or will you give it to the person with the highest low score throughout the league's duration?

I think the DGWs will throw a big spanner in the works for most people. 1 or 2 out of the ordinary players scoring big and a dodgy auto-captain would do it.

New cup opponents are out btw. Just going to see who I've got.

I'd keep Nani - Man U double week 24 you'll want him back. I bought Nani back at 8.4M or so - so it's not even a consideration for me. He's 9.6M and I'd only get 9M on him on a sale...

Sir Alex said Nani was set to face Birmingham and he almost did - and after the away draw and loss of momentum I think he will feature in this away game at West Brom. United may be undefeated but they have been far from prolific on the road and this is a big game for them. I expect Nani to play.

And if its certain that Tevez is out and I wake up in time for transfer deadline, will do Tevez to Torres

Think i forgot to mention I have 2 free transfers

I got Nani at 9, so I will get only 9.3. So not considering taking him out.

But if both Nani and Tevez sit out, that's risking not being able to field 11 players

    Cahill > Fabregas
    Dunn > Cleverley

Worth a 4 point hit? Already done Nasri > VdV!

Basically already done Nasri > VdV, have one more freebie and at the moment this is the team I'd be fielding..

        Foster
        Kolarov, Rafael, Konchesky, Coleman
        Cahill, VdV (c), Nani
        Torres, Tevez, Carroll

        Jussi, Dunn, N'Zog, Jara.

I basically want to get Fabregas in soon, I could leave it a week though and just do Dunn > Cleverley and bench Coleman?

Even am thinking to do Nzog to Cleverly. Heard he is staying with wigan this season. That will help me buy Kolorov and Bosingwa.. How did Bosigwa look against Bolton?

i'd get fabregas for cahill since there is no nasri, but thats me and i love a bit of arse cover

if save the transfer if your not going to field the player tho, coleman might be alrite this week too and should get a game after the goal and 90 last week, he done well

I'd definitely play Cleverley if I bought him this week.. Right, made my mind up!

This week going to do N'Zog > Cleverley, this will be my other freebie! Then next week I'll take a hit and take out Cahill & Dunn for Fabregas & Adam.

              Sound alright?

The way I see it is that it's a choice between Fabs for WIG EVE or Berba for BIR/blp AVL for GWs 24 and 25. I'm thinking keep the Nasri coverage for Arsenal and go Bulgarian. Then it's Fabs from GW 26 or maybe 27.

Yeah.. I just decided to get rid of Nasri as it was him or Cahill basically, and I fancy Cahill to do well this week. If I don't get Fabregas though I'll have no Arsenal coverage at all, with Torres & Tevez in my team also it really does f*ck your budget up!

Yep, that's where I am. I'm nearly convinced to hold off on Fabs until GW 26/7. I would lose Cahill myself. He's off next week and although he might well do fine at Stoke, you could save a transfer by losing him now.

Rooney to Tevez, yes, depending on injury news. I wouldn't bother with Gerrard.
