Given that every team plays home/away again for the second Gameweek running -depending on where they were playing these last two days- the case of refreshing the Captain Poll ahead of Gameweek twenty-one whiffs of deja-vu. We see a repeated effort, as those catching the eye this week were most certainly on the radar in days just gone…

Roberto Mancini decided to rest his star striker’s hamstrings on Tuesday in a case of opportunity lost as Mario Balotelli took the chance to put a woeful Aston Villa to the sword, Carlos Tevez will inevitably be raring to go after a little break and the visit of the equally penetrable Blackpool defence will see the Argentinean rascal as a leading armband candidate.

Didier Drogba‘s recent form has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price plummet from a high of £13.2m to a now lower than original price of £12.4m, but the Ivorian hasn’t been doing awful by any stretch of the imagination; just perhaps not as well as people wanted for such a heavy outlay. The aforementioned traveling troops of Aston Villa might just afford Drogba the chance to boost an upturn in form. Florent Malouda may also be back in contention after his first goal in ten games in last night’s win over Bolton.

The Liverpool duo of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres play at Anfield once more, against a Bolton defence that rarely keeps clean sheets. That will undoubtedly be on the radar again, although last night’s dismal showing will give Fantasy Managers little confidence – existing owners may well look to back their investment however. Rafael Van Der Vaart may have had a rare quiet day in terms of Fantasy football, but a home game against the weary travellers of Fulham looks tantalising. The only slight doubt nagging in the back of our minds will be the threat of rest and rotation – “Can a recently recovered player start 3 games in under a week?”. Then again, can Harry do without his considerable influence?

Team-mate Gareth Bale bagged a goal and 2 FPL bonus points at home to Newcastle and will always be in the mix for points while those who have hopped aboard the Frank Lampard train nice and early may want to welcome the New Year with a gamble on his prospects against Villa. Last time he faced them at the Bridge he scored four goals.

Throw in Dimitar Berbatov and Nani -if he’s finally fit to return- at West Brom and you’ve got yourself a vast array of high calibre options.

What’ll be your new years resolution then? Keep faith in Chelsea? Never trusting Mancini again? To throw a curveball and captain Cesc Fabregas away St. Andrews? Whatever it is, make sure you head back to the frontpage and get your vote in then discuss with your peers right here.

Tevez has to be (c) if he starts; so keep an eye on the team news.

Pre-WC, is it wise to take a hit? Leave Nasri for now; he covers Arsenal, and bringing Adam in this GW makes no sense away to Man City...

    Is Lichaj a regular now?

For a cheap 4.0 defender, who would you take:
    (1) Steven Taylor
    (2) Gonzalo Jara
    (3) Kevin Foley
    (4) Eric Lichaj

I would go for Taylor, heart of a Newcastle defence who are doing fairly well, Foley would get the odd goal but Newcastle will probably be more consistent from clean sheets. Jara is a nutcase and Lichaj plays for the leakiest defence in the league at the moment.

How many players do you reckon is enough for the DGW 24?

I'm looking at having Adam, Rafael, Nani, Torres, Konchesky, N'Zogbia and possibly Berbatov/Rooney.

    6-7 players enough?

Don't see much value in Villa or Fulham players.

Is Tevez --> Berb sensible GW 24? I can do without him until I'll wildcard him back in (provided I won't lose too much money).

He's out if he doesn't play.

I'll probably replace him with another Liverpool defender though, since their defense is decent and they have some double gameweeks coming up.

          Skrtel or Konchesky maybe.

Villa should be a little better by then and they have a good record at Wigan. They could score against Arsenal, but still it's unlikely. Obviously it's good to have N'Zogbia/Cleverley cos their fixtures after are great anyway.

Villa's record at Wigan doesn't count for much with their current form and injuries. Arsenal have cleanies against Blackpool and West Ham and no-one else. I reckon Wigan are better than 50-50 to score there.

Most injured players will be back by then, I hate them but they will improve, they have to. We'll see, but all I'm saying is their double compared to their fixtures elsewhere is pants really.

There are better out there, I agree. But if you're invested in Wigan's attacking players that DGW is nice enough.

I think Villa will struggle hugely this season. Houllier can lose a dressing room like no-one else.

Yeah, get Wigan players anyway because their fixtures are superb tbf! I really do hope they struggle, and go down.. they should improve but I suppose you never know, I don't know where goals are going to come from and their defence has been ripped to shreds by Houlier.

I would take out Onuoha due to his injury and bring in Cashley. I think people are looking at Chelsea's 'decline' far too short term. Overall they have still conceeded the least goals in the league, and with a few key players back should be back to form soon. Expect clean sheets and Cole is the biggest threat to goal and assists in their defence.

I would take out Samba (unsettled) and Simpson (poor form) and replace them with Cashley from a Chelsea defence that are, in my view, resurging, and perhaps Foley from Wolves. Out of position, a goal threat and Wolves have been playing well for several weeks now, just been unlucky. The victory at Anfield could easily spur them on to better form soon.

King and de Laet recalled from Preston by Utd. No surprise there after Fergie junior got the sack, the only reason Preston got the 2 was because of Darren. Still think that its stupid recalling them when there was only 2 games left for the 2 players, what harm would that no them. There's spite in the Ferguson household anyway.

what does the guy above me know ?

That's just his opinion, unless he's Harry's assistant.

Also the poll has vdv as 2nd favourite behind tevez.

Wondering out of the 2, which is the better option.

no one knows who's going to be thebest option, were basing our decisions on opnions. even harry's assistant cant tell you if VDV will do well this week. imsorry if i offended you but i just thought you 2 could speak to each other seeing as its about the same thing.

plus if the poll says tevez then most people think he's the best option.

What makes tevez such a nailed on fav for captain?

tevez is a doubt also with a thigh injury. Game is against blackpool, hardly a must for tevez to play and with balotelli notching a hat-trick it would be logical to keep balotelli up front on his own and not risk tevez.

Man city have more important games to come and mancini has already stressed the situation with tevez playing too many games anyway.

imo tevez is a nailed on starter,,,was dropped as a precaution, and mancini was proved right (4-0),,,he will be back along side balotelli in a 442 to combat the 'ultra defensive' Blackpool!!!!
