Given that every team plays home/away again for the second Gameweek running -depending on where they were playing these last two days- the case of refreshing the Captain Poll ahead of Gameweek twenty-one whiffs of deja-vu. We see a repeated effort, as those catching the eye this week were most certainly on the radar in days just gone…

Roberto Mancini decided to rest his star striker’s hamstrings on Tuesday in a case of opportunity lost as Mario Balotelli took the chance to put a woeful Aston Villa to the sword, Carlos Tevez will inevitably be raring to go after a little break and the visit of the equally penetrable Blackpool defence will see the Argentinean rascal as a leading armband candidate.

Didier Drogba‘s recent form has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price plummet from a high of £13.2m to a now lower than original price of £12.4m, but the Ivorian hasn’t been doing awful by any stretch of the imagination; just perhaps not as well as people wanted for such a heavy outlay. The aforementioned traveling troops of Aston Villa might just afford Drogba the chance to boost an upturn in form. Florent Malouda may also be back in contention after his first goal in ten games in last night’s win over Bolton.

The Liverpool duo of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres play at Anfield once more, against a Bolton defence that rarely keeps clean sheets. That will undoubtedly be on the radar again, although last night’s dismal showing will give Fantasy Managers little confidence – existing owners may well look to back their investment however. Rafael Van Der Vaart may have had a rare quiet day in terms of Fantasy football, but a home game against the weary travellers of Fulham looks tantalising. The only slight doubt nagging in the back of our minds will be the threat of rest and rotation – “Can a recently recovered player start 3 games in under a week?”. Then again, can Harry do without his considerable influence?

Team-mate Gareth Bale bagged a goal and 2 FPL bonus points at home to Newcastle and will always be in the mix for points while those who have hopped aboard the Frank Lampard train nice and early may want to welcome the New Year with a gamble on his prospects against Villa. Last time he faced them at the Bridge he scored four goals.

Throw in Dimitar Berbatov and Nani -if he’s finally fit to return- at West Brom and you’ve got yourself a vast array of high calibre options.

What’ll be your new years resolution then? Keep faith in Chelsea? Never trusting Mancini again? To throw a curveball and captain Cesc Fabregas away St. Andrews? Whatever it is, make sure you head back to the frontpage and get your vote in then discuss with your peers right here.

    Hi Guys

Could you please advise me on what transfers I should do this week after a disasterous Xmas

I have got 2 free transfers and 2.4m in bank but the following options come to mind, bearing in mind the injuries to Jones, Onhoha, Nani and Tim Cahill going to the Asia Cup soon

    Sell Jones and Onhoha

Sell Jones, Onhoha and Cahill (4pt hit)

Sell Jones, Onhoha and Nani (4pt hit)

    Or

Sell Jones, Onhoha, Cahill and Jarvis (8pt hit)

    Many Thanks

Rodwell played the Cahill role against West Ham. It didnt really work (mainly as Cahill got marked out of the game playing as the lone striker) but would be great value if Moyes persists with him

Yeah but that shouldn't be a reason not to get him. He has 3 DGW's all at home, he's on penalties, FK's and is a bonus point magnet. No players of that price look as appealing as he does.

+ This is how this is going to play out.

Rooney will turn his form and play sensational football again before the end of the year. Maybe with Valencia's return, who knows. I'll remind you of your comments, which you will then deny and twist into something else, just like it happened with berbasloth. The lesson you should learn is, you're always wrong in the end.

            Hehe
"im always wrong in the end"

Paranoid much? As youwell know the record which many can vouch for says very much the opposite.

            Plus on Rooney

I should bloody hope so that his records turns around and he starts scoring again.
Thats wasnt my point. My point
            1. he never was "world class" or on a par with messi " cos he could do well against a dreadful arseanl defence ofrthe minnows of the league.
I think we you can admit you got caught up in the media frenzy in spring.
And 2. the other point is on current form he shouldnt be in the team
Rooney should start scoing for the crazy money he is on.

I dont see how when he starts scoring again this will debunk anything ive said?

Unless of course you want to declare him world class when he scores against Wolves and does nothing again against Barcelona, Chelsea, and the top nations of the world.

Rooney isnt world class and he is overpayed.

So ya i dont see me being proved wrong unless he drives England to Euro 2012 and scores the winners in every round and scores loads and loads of goals against all opposition.

Yes thats what Villa just did in 2010 who was mocked here in spring.

Ah well when Rooney does score again you wont think ive somehow got something wrong.

                IN short

Ok standard not world class currently over paid and out of form
Doesnt deserve half the money he is on.

This media drivel never gets old

How many players can possible be "World class"

Eto, Messi, Ronaldo, Villa, Drogba, Torres (when fit) all play as central strikers or can pull wide at times bar the latter 2 and are all superior to Rooney. Have superior records, scored more important goals and have been consistent against all opposition of much longer

Thats 6. And thats discounting Tevez , RVP, Ibra who have scored in international tournaments aswell as national leagues

SO even ignoring the above 3 that puts Rooney 7th (on his best day)7th in the world in his position. Is that World Class?? Just 7 th in his position

If we are to take that rule ie 3/4 players world class in every position (taking 2 forwards) there would be upto 44 World class players around which is nonsense.

AND that would be without introducing a modern system where only 1 striker plays and the likes of iniesta, sneider or robben would play in the front 3 which would put rooney further down than 7th. Closer to 17 th if you include the inesta of this world in a front 3.
That would leave him outside the top 10 in his position in the world not to mind anywhere near the team
Yes outside the top 10 who can play in a front 3

Villa, Messi, Ronaldo, Robben, Sneider, Torres, Drogba, Eto, Inesta, Robben,

And then theres aload others im not mentioning such as tevez, ibra, rvp , pedro, higuain who could all give him a run for his money

Hooray for the 110 world class players.
I can see why so many English players are world class according to Sky using that as a barometer

LOL there you go again. You don't get to quantify a world class player because your opinion means nothing.

Here's the point. SAF: the worlds greatest manager flatly disagrees with DBRonaldo: irish nobber with english bigotry agenda on the net.

You are wrong, as i said earlier, again. We always get there in the end don't we sunshine?

So who out of the 10 players i just named as a front 3 are better than Rooney?

Or again is this one of your posts where you agree with me again but dissagree with something else which isnt related to this comment

BTW its not opinion its based on stats and consistency and impact on major finals which all 10 have had.

So yes based on stats , facts, consistency and impact in major games Rooney is lagging behind.

You called him world class too.

Maybe you think all wiliam purnie, djemba djemaba were great too?

You know as well as anyone , every manager loves to stroke a players ego.
Ya Rooney world class when you discount the 10 ahead of him just in his position.

It is simple - World Class means the player should currently get in a World 11. Rooney right now no, Rooney last season yes, Rooney next season likely.

                    Here:

                    Old Trafford
                    Sir Matt Busby Way,
                    Trafford,
                    Manchester

You can write to Utd and explain how your own brilliant conclusions on world class players means you are clearly the leading footballing mind in world football, contradicting and rubbishing the claims of the most successful manager in history. Maybe they'll give you a job. Or maybe they'll agree with me on this too: You're a dumb cracker.

Agreed Rooney had a great season last year and scored loads of goals but why should that warrant inclusion in the best 11.

Drogba scored more goals, got more assists and didnt take pens.

Messi is Messi which his 50 goals in 55
                    Ronaldo did the same.
Then theres Villa with his amazing record last season.

Even in Rooney's best season last year did he have a better one than any of the above 4?

db - who's dictating the formation of this World 11?

I would have had Rooney over Drog & Messi and Ronaldo i don't see as a competition for a place in the team. I would have all 3.

I dont see how you can have Rooney over Messi Ronaldo Villa or Drogba last season.
Crazy considering Rooney started banging in goals in October and stopped in March

While the others started banging them in 2007 and as of today haven't stopped bar Drogba.

A World 11 last year, chosen now, I would have Rooney over Drogba and still have had the other 3.

Rooney wouldnt get into a World 1011 currently.

Exactamondo Voronin. Last years world XI picked by 99% of the worlds population baring DBcrackerRonaldo, MFaulk (who would put in Bendtner) and Jamsie P would have had the front line of:

                    Messi Rooney Ronaldo.

This year, it wouldn't be. Simple.

as yes the good old "99% of the world"
Nice bias from a English United fan.

Unlucky for you AP the stats dont lie nor does the fact he didnt score for the last part of last season

So now I think if "the world " had a vote it wouldnt be 99% and imo going on stats and consistency he wouldnt be in the team.

lol i'm never going to forget DBR proving SAF wrong with stats. I think i've dislodged something laughing.

But ok ok, let's just say Me, SAF, Voronin and the entire Italian press shall we. Oh, and the players playing in the premier league and the sports writers, lets not forget about them either. Oh but they could have voted for Drogba? And Tevez? And RvP?

Btw, one final thing. The irony wasn't lost on me that you wrote 'this media drivel never gets old' earlier when 30 mins earlier you posted a link from the guardian website about views on Rooney. Serious ironic lols, damn i need to stop before i keel over.

Martin O Neil thinks Ashley Young is World Class

That should give you a few thoughts regarding Rooney.

                    ps

The list of players now considered World class has stretched to 10,240 given your criteria of Managers proclaiming their own players world class.
Current form Rooney still misses out.

Will be fun linking this discussion in future. 🙂

Rooney is world class cos his manager and a bunch of English journos and a press in milan who's team just got beat think so.

                    Righteo. lol

Just for one last time as you have avoided it since the "debate" began which its a hardly a debate on an english forum trying to talk sense about the merits of an english player and what he did in the last season here are a list of players who play in Rooney position as a front 3 player who are better in stats consistency , voting , and yes my opinion.

We will see how many think Rooney is better than them and therefore "world class" cos if he is then surely so is John O shea number 11 in his position in the world.

Villa,Messi, Ronaldo, Drogba, Eto, Sneijder, Inesta, Torres, Robben, Iniesta.

He is a great manager who has inherited a terrible squad who finished 7th last year and now has lost one of the worlds best players (Mash) and the other leaders of the team are injured.

Jose Mourinho and God as his assistant would do well to finish anything above 7th.

            Porto team had
Ferraira , Carvalho, Maniche, Costinha, Deco,
who all went on to win further top class medals in other leagues, win more champions leagues and play in European finals and World cup semi finals.

Evening gang, need some advice for this week. I have x2 freebies and 1.3 in the till.

    This is my team;

    Hart

    Kolarov/Acole/Raphael (Konch/Samba)

    Nani/MGP/Ethers/Lee (Nzog)

    Tevez/Torres/Welbeck

Midfield needs sorting, and I'm tempted to ship out Torres despite of fixtures to do so. I'm thinking Torres> Carol or Berbaflop, which gives me the greens for Lee VDV.

    Thoughts appreciated!
