Given that every team plays home/away again for the second Gameweek running -depending on where they were playing these last two days- the case of refreshing the Captain Poll ahead of Gameweek twenty-one whiffs of deja-vu. We see a repeated effort, as those catching the eye this week were most certainly on the radar in days just gone…

Roberto Mancini decided to rest his star striker’s hamstrings on Tuesday in a case of opportunity lost as Mario Balotelli took the chance to put a woeful Aston Villa to the sword, Carlos Tevez will inevitably be raring to go after a little break and the visit of the equally penetrable Blackpool defence will see the Argentinean rascal as a leading armband candidate.

Didier Drogba‘s recent form has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price plummet from a high of £13.2m to a now lower than original price of £12.4m, but the Ivorian hasn’t been doing awful by any stretch of the imagination; just perhaps not as well as people wanted for such a heavy outlay. The aforementioned traveling troops of Aston Villa might just afford Drogba the chance to boost an upturn in form. Florent Malouda may also be back in contention after his first goal in ten games in last night’s win over Bolton.

The Liverpool duo of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres play at Anfield once more, against a Bolton defence that rarely keeps clean sheets. That will undoubtedly be on the radar again, although last night’s dismal showing will give Fantasy Managers little confidence – existing owners may well look to back their investment however. Rafael Van Der Vaart may have had a rare quiet day in terms of Fantasy football, but a home game against the weary travellers of Fulham looks tantalising. The only slight doubt nagging in the back of our minds will be the threat of rest and rotation – “Can a recently recovered player start 3 games in under a week?”. Then again, can Harry do without his considerable influence?

Team-mate Gareth Bale bagged a goal and 2 FPL bonus points at home to Newcastle and will always be in the mix for points while those who have hopped aboard the Frank Lampard train nice and early may want to welcome the New Year with a gamble on his prospects against Villa. Last time he faced them at the Bridge he scored four goals.

Throw in Dimitar Berbatov and Nani -if he’s finally fit to return- at West Brom and you’ve got yourself a vast array of high calibre options.

What’ll be your new years resolution then? Keep faith in Chelsea? Never trusting Mancini again? To throw a curveball and captain Cesc Fabregas away St. Andrews? Whatever it is, make sure you head back to the frontpage and get your vote in then discuss with your peers right here.

    Transfers after deadline...
Nasri and Cahill to Fabregas and Adam??
    No brainer??
Maybe a cheeky 4 point hit for Foley to Evatt?

    Some advice please,

With Sunderlands tasty fixtures i subbed in Gyan, who should have scored about 5 against blackpool to then find out he could be out.

Does anyone have an update and if he is out should i just downgrade to Wellbeck (provided he is not injured also)?

Lost on the last thread so ...

Random thoughts for anyone considering overloading on Blackpool or Liverpool players for the DGW in GW22:

    1. You will pick your players for the next match and a match 8 days in advance.

    2. In between that 8 days, your players will play in the FA Cup 3rd round. Blackpool (away) v. Southampton and Liverpool (away) v. Man Utd.

    3. The chances of all your selected players (Blackpool or Liverpool) coming through that sequence of games without injuries, suspensions or rotation, is a punt too far for me.

But I thought I’d throw it out there. Good luck to those who go for it.

So true. Definitely not worth a hit to bring anyone in, but for free, and if it doesnt ruin your team balance for the week after then you'll still get 1 gane minimum??

Must say though, apart from the Rooney DGW last season, most were a disaster

      Milner (c) anyone!!

true, but in this case those 2 teams have a second DGW 2 weeks later.

Reina seems the safest bet from LIV and Adam is probably someone you'd want anyway...Torres a bit of a gamble

    My team:

    Foster, Al Habsi
    Baines, Vidic, Onuoha, Kyrgiakos, Foley
Nasri, Nani, Van der Vaart, Brunt, Dempsey
    Berbatov, Tevez, Carroll

I have one free transfer this week and 1.6 in the bank. Tevez is doubtful this week, as is Onuoha, and with Agger back Kyrgiakos’ status is up in the air.

This makes me think I should transfer in a new defender to bolster my defence, especially if Tevez doesn’t play and I need to play an extra man at the back. Who should I bring in?

I’ve had my eye on Nelsen, Bardsley, Kolarov and Coleman…

Definitely not for a hit. Only for free. Not much chance of a cs but two games = 4 points. Also always a chance that the home games could be a freezing risk still if the weather turns?

If he came and played people in the correct positions then that's different. Playing people out of position does not work, no matter how good Fabregas is the Spain manager does not play him on the left wing just to fit him in. No need to play Lucas for a home game against Wolves.

I did and while i wasnt at all impressed to be fair to WOY its the same shite team Benitez left us with in 7th last year. We dont have a quality striker who is either in form or able to put the ball in the net.

We dont have any width and a team full of out of form (cole and gerrard) and not quite good enough players across the rest of it.

I remember chatting to a united fan a couple of years back saying what a good side it would be if Liverpool and United where mixed. At the time Reina, Carragher(maybe), Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard and Torres would have got in the United team. I think only Reina and maybe Gerrard would now.

Is any of that Hodgsons fault. No. Are we dire at the moment yes. Do I think anyone could do a better job with those players. Not really. Lets give the guy till the end of the year and allow him to get some players in then see where we are.

As for Konchesky, he was forced to buy a left back with limited resources so plumped for a player who has done very well for him at Fulham. I cant blame him for that. Time will tell I say but lets at least give gim some time.

I'll be at Anfield on Saturday with all my bits crossed without a doubt 🙂

He had all summer to buy a striker yet he chose to buy 2 central midfielders. I blame him for that, yes Rafa did not leave him a great squad however he had a transfer window to buy a striker which he did not do.

Over £10m on Meireles, £4m for Poulsen and Konchesky. Money was there and although VDV doesnt play in strike for 8m what a player to have behind Torres.

Agreed DB. If he hadnt bought Poulson (admittedly a mistake) and Meireles (good buy) who would we have had in Midfield? Gerrard ,Lucas, Spearing and Shelvey...

Roy doesn't know what he's doing walking into a club with such big expectations. Beforehand, the biggest teams he had managed were Fulham and Blackburn.
Whereas King Kenny is an absolute legend round liverpool and he would certainly have the experience.

Hehe its funny when fans of liverpool dont know their own managers record.

Inter were pretty big. And getting them to a European Final wasnt bad
He also turned them from a midtable team back into a european placed team again.
Getting Finland within 1 point of Euro 2008 was also
            ANd Fulham to Europa Final
And the Swiss minnows to number 4 in the world and Wc finals 1994 and euro 96.

And thats not even mentioning his work in Scandinavia and then Elsewhere winning league titles.

I have both Konchesky and Kyrgiakos and have no idea which one to keep. I want to trade one out for Bosingwa. I'm sure the one I drop will play and keep a clean sheet while the one I keep will be benched - I'll keep you updated as to the move I make so you can do the reverse.

Cheers guys, I was all set to bring him in, but after last nights performance, I'm unsure if i want any liverpool def. I might see if i can get the cash together for Skrtel or Reina.

Dog - Cheers, she's not mine unfortunatley, but i'm very attached to her, we look after her when her 'family' go away.

Lbra - I think Kyriagkos will get benched for Agger, but maybe not this week. My worry is that Konch could also make way for Aurelio.
