The Watchlist has had a full refresh just in time for the New Year’s Day programme. You can find these mid-term player recommendation rankings in the usual place – on your frontpage at the foot of your right sidebar.

United’s growing form and confidence has their Fantasy assets on the climb as they share top rankings with neighbours City, their key players – Joe Hart and Carlos Tevez – hold on at the summit of their respective positions as the Manchester clubs dominate…

Hart’s dominance in the Goalkeeper rankings is threatened by a surge from Sunderland’s Craig Gordon; only concerns of injuries in the Black Cats’ rearguard prevents the Scot from topping the table as his form, fixtures and value has him climb to second. Wigan’s Al Habsi – another budget prospect is our highest new entry with strong short-term fixtures and decent form. The likes of Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and Blackpool’s Richard Kingson have their double Gameweeks to thank for their positions – expect further climbs from them as those fixtures become a stronger short-term factor.

City’s Aleksandar Kolarov gets toppled in the Defender rankings thanks to the fierce competition for starts in Roberto Mancini’s back four. United’s Rafael – a seemingly more secure prospect – takes his place with strong form and fixtures and of course exceptional Fantasy Premier League value.

There are an array of climbers below him, with Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley taking up his highest position of the season and Chelsea’s Ashley Cole benefiting from the recent win and clean sheet that suggests that Carlo Ancelotti’s side could make the most of kind fixtures to come.

The Blackpool pairing of Stephen Crainey and Ian Evatt are high new entries with their double fixtures now a factor – they are just so hard to separate in the budget bracket but we’re favouring the left-back – just. More on him and Blackpool’s other assets to come.

The Midfield rankings see little movement at the top with Nani expected to return from a hip injury to justify his placing. Tottenham’s Rafael Van der Vaart could be rested but his huge potential when he plays has him hold firm in second.

The big movers include Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas who, unlike Samir Nasri and Andrei Arshavin, offers security in the Arsenal midfield – at a price of course. He leads the charge of the midfield heavyweights with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard ranked further down in our thinking – despite Gerrard’s double Gameweeks. The Liverpool skipper will need to show form before he can threaten our top five.

Blackpool’s Charlie Adam is our highest new entry into our top five with his strong fixtures to come. It’s not clear just how many games Ian Holloway will get out of the Scot, but it is likely that Adam will come out of Blackpool’s hectic schedule with returns that will cement his status as a strong value FPL midfield option.

The likes of Florent Malouda and Kevin Nolan enjoy climbs with strong short-term fixtures, while the same can be said of Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson who has shown outstanding form of late, without blinking on the Fantasy radar. Wigan’s Ben Watson is another name to consider in the value bracket – his penalty against Arsenal indicated that he’ll have a role to play from set-pieces while Charles N’Zogbia serves his three-match ban.

Up front, Carlos Tevez maintains top spot despite his recent rest against Villa. United’s Dimitar Berbatov is a strong challenger and Tevez will need to play and return over the next two to maintain his position over the Bulgarian. Newcastle’s Andy Carroll, with decent short-term fixtures, climbs back into our top three as Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba continue to struggle for form. That might change once we know more on the thigh injury that is threatening to rule Carroll out of the trip to Wigan.

Once again Blackpool’s budget assets make an impression here, with Luke Varney and DJ Campbell entering our thoughts as Holloway’s side prepare for 10 fixtures in 7 Gameweeks.

Expect further tweaks to the Watchlist, with those double Gameweeks playing more of an influence, once we have the New Year’s Day fixtures out of the way.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Malouda for Cahill
Ivanovic or Sagna for someone else?

So Nani won't play vs WBA?

This will be 2 GWs now when he's been almost certain to be fit for the next game. I'll lose .4 if I shift him out, but the way things are going he's going to be missing for another few games. Be helpful if Fergie could be more clear.

      SAF Quote..

"We're looking at Nani as a possibility," the boss told reporters at Carrington on Friday. "We'll see how he is today, but he maybe has more chance of playing against Stoke."

What is the news on Carroll? Because at the moment my team could be really screwed without taking a points hit.
    Gordon (Foster)
Vidic Big Greek Bosingwa (Dann Onuoha)
    Nani Nasri Yaya MGP (N'Zog)
    Tevez Torres Carroll

So potentially no Onuoha, Big Greek (depending on rotations), Nani (injury depending) and Tevez (Hamstring depending)

If this is the case i will have to make at least one change so Onuoha for Coleman?
    or
    N'Zog for Adams
    or
least tough it out and have the double freebie next week?

During the 4 weeks of the WC window if 1/4 people play the WC each week plus normal weekly transfers should we expect price rises of 0.4-0.5 per week? If so it will be difficult to bring in expensive players by the last two weeks.

good point, i guess just see how it goes

the issue with playing it early is that you cant manage the DGWs using the wildcard... and you cant wait and see re new signings....

im planning to deal mine after the GW24 DGWs...by then the window will pretty much be shut too

    Roversnick.

To go online all you have to do is click "online game modes" and then "Head to Head" and then quick match to play a random or Custom match to play a friend. Or wait for an invite of your friend.

To do that Virtual Pro thing we were saying about, simply click Virtual Pro, and there is a guide telling you how to set it up etc. To join our club, I will need your PSN for a start and then I will invite you, to get this invite, once I have sent it click R3, and then it is self explanitory. Once you are in the club, just click Virtual Clubs, and then if we are online or whatever ask us to play by sending us a message OR if we have asked you, on the Virtual clubs screen, click Play Match.

    Get it?

    Team as it stands is:

    Foster
    Kolarov GJ Rafael
    Fabregas VDV Nani Malouda
    Carroll Tevez (c) Welbeck
    Subs: Nasri, Jara, Simpson

Potentially i'm looking at Nani, Welbeck, Jara, VDV, Tevez all out or rested. Think Tevez and VDV should at least play some part so not too fussed about those.

Would Jara > Gohouri be a good use of a freebie even though he'd just be a second sub? Doesn't seem worth it really but if things go badly i might regret not doing it.

to be honest, there is only the WBA week where you would really want one, and that isn't for another 4 gws, and it is the double gameweek for a lot of clubs, so would you even play a rovers defender that week anyway

      good move jamboken..

      team is

      Kolarov, Kryiagcos, Bardsley (Carr, Foley)
      Nani, Nasri, VDV, MGP (Barton)
      Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

      have 1.7..

Could do a 4 point hit and do
*Nasri > Fabregas and Drogba > Berbatov?
*Krya > Rafa - Agger gunna have a crack?

      Any other ideas fellas?

I'd keep Drogba, Villa at home, he's bound to do something sooner or later.

Seems the only way of getting Fabregas in is moving Drogs, but he is slowly getting back into form and yes I missed that he has Villa.. Possibly Kyra > Rafa or skrtel who will most likely play? I dont know.. someone transfer for me..

We all like one of the 'big boys' in our team. Here is the form from the last 6 games they played:

    Drog - 12.4 - 2,2,6,2,5,6 - 2 goals - 2 assists - 1 BP
    Roon - 11.7 - 1,8,0,5,2 - 0 goals - 3 assists - 0 BP (only 5 appearances in this spell)
    Torres - 11.7 - 6,1,5,2,2,2 - 1 goal - 1 assist - 0 BP
    Tevez - 11.3 - 1,16,1,8,2,16 - 5 goals - 2 assists - 9 BP

There is a clear winner there. But just to all those who have Drog and are thinking about swapping to Torres or Rooney. Either get rid completely and get a better midfield or stay with the one you have in the hope THEY MAY ACTUALLY DO SOMTHING

    🙂

    I'm bored at work!

I have Tevez/Drogs/Carroll and I think Tevez & Carroll have been the best buys this season

Drogs average points for the whole season are good, shame he got 80% of them in the first 5 weeks 🙂

If Torres didn't have 6 games in 4 weeks, I'd probably swap him out for United academy product and part-time slap-stick comedian Danny Welbeck.

But he does, so I won't.

No back-tracking. I a) still think he's shit and b) am not buying him anyway.

he's just a cheap striker playing up front for a decent side with good fixtures.

S'alright i know in a round about Faulk/Wenger way you are admitting you were wrong about him, it's cool.

Who's your transfer? I'm guessing Drog to Torres.

      Oh noes!

Even if you sold him it would take some serious droppage for him to go back to his old value for me to buy him back at original price!

Could this happen if he's injured or does he get protected?

Depends how long you've had Mr. Dependable for.

I got him at 5.0, so if I sell him, I'll need a lot of extra cash to get him back.

    my team -

    Begovic,
    Konchesky, S Taylor, Bardsley, Coleman
    Nasri, Nani, VDV
    Tevez, Drogba, Torres (c)
Subs - Foster, Dunn, Albrighton, Jara

I am thinking about just leaving this team as it is until next week... (no transfers).

Nani might play, Konchesky might play and I've got subs in Dunn and Albrighton if they don't... good plan?

Dunn -> Adam for midweek unless the game is off
