Two games today, one at Stamford Bridge and one at the DW Stadium, cap off the first gameweek of 2011. Shortly, the out-of-form Champions will be looking to climb back into the top four thanks to back-to-back wins, as they welcome the visit of the worst form side in the league, Aston Villa. Then, at 4pm, Newcastle United travel down to take on Roberto Martinez’s Wigan Athletic in front of a packed house (not really). Join us in the Dugout Discussion, where all the day’s action be followed.

Team news from our first game is in, and here are the line-ups…

Chelsea XI: Cech, Ferreira, Bruma, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Essien, Lampard, Anelka, Drogba, Malouda

Villa XI: Friedel, Cuellar, Collins, Dunne, Clark, Ashley Young, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Downing, Heskey, Agbonlahor

As revealed earlier in the week by Carlo Ancelotti, 19-year-old Dutch defender Jeffrey Bruma partners skipper John Terry in central defence. Elsewhere, Paolo Ferreira is preferred to Jose Bosingwa, with the Portuguese international sitting on the pine.

The visitors call upon Ashley Young and Emile Heskey, who both shook off knocks to make the trip. The latter of the two is partnered up front with Gabriel Agbonlahor, meaning there is no room in midfield for Marc Albrighton. In defence, Richard Dunne is back in favour as he replaces Eric Lichaj (with Carlos Cuellar shifting role), and Ciaran Clark completes a back four composed entirely of centre backs.

Once again, all the action can be followed in the chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

he's too good to be sacked. give him say about 60m transfer funds and he'll make chelsea the best club. i don't think last season (or even the start of this season) was a fluke.

why won't he be given the cash? that roman owns half of the oil reserves in russia (at least so someone told me). he can afford 60m.

mceachren, i'd say, is probably better than wilshire. he just needs chances. since carlo can't risk meddling with his first team because of chelsea's form, a loan move for him would be ideal.

For all those people doubling or tripling up on liverpool players...

    1. Liverpool have both fixtures in their DGW away from home. They are notoriously sh** away from home. The only possible solution for this is Hodgson sacked and a new manager swiftly chaniging their away form (1% chance at most)

    2. Liverpool play MU in the FA cup at the weekend, and they will surely go for that one, i.e. many important players will play

    3. Their back 4 are unsettled, Woy does not know his best back 4 and with 3 away games in the next week he could play anyone in defence.
    4. Gerrard was 'extremele tired' before the bolton game. he would be even more tired now.
    5. Torres does not score in away matches.
    6. Meireles is injured and will probably be out for the next match.

    enjoy

To sum up.. Torres won't play 3 games in 10 days and he won't be rested for the FA Cup tie against Utd. My bet is he wont play against Blackpool.

Roy needs to get Liverpool up the league table - they need to win games away against that type of opposition - the FA Cup gamemust be his least priority..

They are playing Utd. If he thinks the fans are on his back now, imagine what will happen if he doesn't play a full strength side in that match, he can kiss his job goodbye.

Do you honestly think that Hodgson will prioritize the FA Cup over the league?

Not going to happen, finishing 4th will save his job, winning the Cup won't.

The league is very open, 3 wins on the trot for them and the league has a very different look about it, no one is pulling away and if Chelsea drop more points today then it will open it up even more.

Teams have runs of form, 5 games into the season and Chelsea were being tagged as Invincible...

Eh? Great games mean nothing, United have looked awful yet they are still Unbeaten, Loosepool just need to scrape a few results together like they did yesterday and the fixtures are falling for them, how they deal with it is anyone's guess.

if you think liverpool can finish anywhere in the top 4, you're not living in the real world. the FA cup is huge. winning it just might save his job. might.

    This is unreal. Absolutely unreal.

This gameweek is right up there with super cancellation week for looking good on paper and then being completely ruined...

Kolarov off 3 minutes before a clean sheet.
Berbatov captained after good form they playing terrible and being taken off 1 minute before earning his second appearance point.
    Carroll getting broken in training.
    Rafael getting rested.
Hodgsons favourite fulham player getting dropped.
Chelsea, at home to a terrible villa team getting completely outplayed.
    Nani still being broken.
Samba totally fit again but not even making the bench.

I also reckon the "greatest of all time" arguments are silly. Have you watched enough of Di Stefano, Puskas, Pele or Gerd Muller to compare them to Ronaldo? I know I haven't.

well i wont be unrealistic and say i have but if you watch any football from the 50,60 and 70's its clear the defenders were not fit and were not up to scratch. and ronaldo also scored 47 goals for barca when he was 18 and meesi only did that last season so you can see the level he was at.

Drogba has barely seen the ball in this game, Malouda owners will be happy as he's been a magnet for their attacking play

Yes but Villa showed nothing at all away to City and no one really expected a vast improvement from that. However it seems Chelsea have gone backwards again...

Being a spurs fan i'm loving this result followed by the two teams above us playing each other next week! So long as it's not a draw we can go level with Arsenal if they lose or be 2 points behind City with a game in hand on them!

I'm playing my wildcard this week (I know, I know, but my mind is made up!) and I've been wondering about Kingson and Begovic as a super-budget goalkeeping pair whose fixtures rotate perfectly.

Will Kingson and Begovic keep their starting places for the next 5 weeks or so?

Begovic: uncertain short, mid and long term
      Kingson: certain short term only

I'm playing my WC next week. Only problem is the defence. Think i'm going to invest in 5 def's from 5 diff clubs, players who play maybe not for a top 4 team but play every single game i.e. Huth, Hanngeland. I just can't see any Man City or Chelsea def's being worth it. Agree/disagree?
