The double-gameweeks start right here, right now as round two in the battle of the ‘Pools kicks off in the Premier league and the Dugout Disucssion opens it’s doors especially. Ian Holloway is playing host to his hero Kenny Dalglish and there’s all sorts of interesting tittle-tattle to take from this game…

Charlie Adam is considered one of the hot properties of this winter transfer window and now he has another chance to show just what he’s worth. Perversely, Liverpool are reported to have entered to race for the Scot so will want to see their target play a blinder but somehow come a cropper this evening.

As for the teams, the baby boom continues on Merseyside as new father Glen Johnson is drafted back into the Liverpool defence, seemingly at left-back with Fabio Aurelio not capable of two games in a week, Martin Kelly more than deserving of his place in the XI and Paul Konchesky very much on the bench and out of the fray. The midfield gets even stranger as two of Liverpool’s worst summer signings -Milan Jovanovic and Christian Poulsen- are drafted in. Can Kenny get out of them what Roy Hodgson couldn’t? I’m guessing we’ve got a 4-3-2-1 on our hands, but it’s hard to tell.

Blackpool meanwhile set out a fairly predictable side after the rest the FA Cup afforded the squad, Elliot Grandin has sufficiently recovered from injury to jump right back into the starting side. Line-ups in full are…

Blackpool XI: Kingson; Eardley, Evatt, Cathcart, Crainey; Adam, Vaughan, Grandin; Taylor-Fletcher, Campbell, Varney

Liverpool XI: Reina; Kelly, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson; Poulsen, Lucas; Kuyt, Meireles, Jovanovic; Torres

We will of course be keeping a close eye on affairs in the Carling Cup too. Arsenal are looking to get a head of steam on Ipswich in their first leg. The Dugout Discussion is of course on hand for anyone needing their Wednesday night fix.

Sending in from Michigan in the US - just saw the Blackpool game on TV, first time I've seen Blackpool - got a question - if Blackpool can find decent players (who completely bossed Liverpool's midfield) like Vaughan and Phillips in the lower leagues and Adam in Scotland, and a goalscorer like Campbell in the lower leagues why do the the top clubs like Liverpool spend big money on chumps like Lucas, Jovanovic, and N'gog or Chelsea on Kakuta, for instance ?

If Liverpool's players could work together like Blackpool's then they'd be a far superior side.

Blackpool may have inexpensive players, but as a team they're far more than the sum of their parts.

Well, a guy like Roger Johnson for Birmingham and now Arsenal are panting after Gary Cahill, just seems like the Premier clubs could save some freakin' money by scouring the lower leagues. I haven't seen the games there but Christ, I'd sooner have Campbell than N'gog.

Ah right all that time studying execise physiology, coaching, sport nutrition, doing courses on training, tactics, research papers on professional footballers and a host of other sports, actually training and performing a host of scientific research on professionals must mean nothing.

Your sky sports part and passing on info from "site to site " was also fun.

But again i ask you where is this evidence that "db knows nothing about football"

Your tone is always SO wrong. People call you an idiot because of how irritating your posts are, not because you know (allegedly) very little about football.

Do you think it's coincidence scores of people lambast your posts? Or is it really that you are an all knowing Oracle of knowledge.

Sure you do not even know what I do for a living and just spout out C.V C.V. C.V. C.V. and now I am just after taking part of your C.V. physiology and stuck it up your ass.

Just so your not so confused I changed career in the last 2 years. It is possible to start out like i did in exercise and sport science degree and move into public health and public nutrition.

And more importantly try to make sense the next time you post something. Especially when you say

"You spout out shit as if it is gospel without really having any substance behind it "

Maybe try to back it up with some former link proving it rather than a personal reflection based on nothing more than the fact many here proposed Liverpools woes werent down to Roy hodgson.

Btw i wont mention the irony of that above quoted edcomment from you.

And learn how to spell recognition before you try to engage in a conversation where your only point is the opposition is "an idiot"

My bad guess a typo qualifies as an idiot as for your argument with regards to Roy the boy give this a read it mostly deals in fact so it might be a little much for you...

Excuse but didnt i ask you to link some facts to back up your arguement?

Nice link . Number of things i find amusing.
                    - the way the it glosses over the loss of Masherano,
-The obvious bias of selecting Rafas games when their form upturned
                    - the fact that this season Gerrard, Torres, Carragher, Reina, Johnson etc etc are playing far worse

Make a long point short why wouldnt the team be performing worse.

Best part was the critism of Roy for not getting in the authors opinion the magical "bounce" after new owners came in.

In other words Liverpools travails on the actualy pitch were Hicks and Gillets fault

                    Comical.

Him being young and talented there is probably a fair chance Wenger is interested. He could probably make space in the squad by selling someone who is about to peak.

Not really. Striker had a yard on him to begin with.

Think it was Fabregas losing possession and then a quick pass down the channel striker ran into and curled it home.

      He was alright.

That would be Denilson. I still fail to understand what he brings to the team, No pace, no power, no tackling ability, no dribbling ability, passes always safe and almost never a telling pass, poor work ethic... list goes on and on...

But most of the team was poor tonight.

Djorou is the best CB we have methinks. Vermaelen might come close, but I think Vermaelen's attacking papers over some of his defensive cracks.

And I don't think it was Djorou's fault. Ball over the top (classic Arsenal). Think Szczesny might have come out a bit sooner to try smother and make himself bigger but once it was 1-on-1 the striker was always the favourite. If blame had to be laid though, it would have to be our midfield for time and again allowing those high balls over the top.

It was a bit of a mixed bag really, a couple of good tackles and the usual headless chicken defending we normally produce, but at 4.2m and almost guarenteed his start until a new signing appears he has to worth a punt! God Bendtner and Arshavin need a kick up the hole, they were shocking again.
