Manchester United have until 6pm today to contest the charge of improper conduct brought against Rafael Da Silva yesterday, with the right-back facing a possible extension of his one-match for his dismissal against Spurs.

Yesterday’s statement by the FA confirmed that Rafael faced a charge relating to “the player’s conduct towards match official Mike Dean following his dismissal in Manchester United’s fixture at Tottenham.”

Dean included details of the player’s reaction to his decision to issue him a red card following a second bookable offence following an innocuous looking challenge on Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Rafael will already miss the first of United’s two fixtures in the Gameweek, the Old Trafford clash with Birmingham. Should he be found guilty of this improper conduct charge he will receive either a warning, a fine or even an additional ban. That would see him sit out the trip to Blackpool and miss the entirety of United’s double Gameweek – at the very least.

While many print and online sources reported the charge yesterday, none committed to a likely punishment. The Telegraph have today stated that Rafael could face an additional one-match ban. Having spoken to the FA this morning, we can confirm that more than one match could be added to his existing suspension. The FA cited a recent example where Norwich defender Liam Barnett received an additional two-matches after he was charged with improper conduct for throwing the ball at the referee when dismissed in the clash with Portsmouth on December 11.

Owners of the full-back can only sit and wait for the verdict – the FA confirmed to us that we are likley to hear a verdict by this evening.

Given the circumstances surrounding the charge one would hope for leniency from the FA. An additional ban would be a major blow in Fantasy terms given the likelihood of returns from Rafael over the Gameweek. United would seem odds on to claim another shutout against Alex McLeish’s side a the weekend, while Rafael’s raiding runs on the right-flank could easily bring attacking rewards at Blackpool, even if Ian Holloway’s side breach the United back four.

John O’Shea would be favourite to step in at right-back in the absence of the Brazilian. He returned to reserve team action last week following a six-week absence with a calf injury. With Wes Brown out of favour and Gary Neville still licking his wounds from a roasting at West Brom, it would seem likely that Alex Ferguson will turn to O’Shea to fill the void.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Fergie is known to frown upon hot headed youngsters. He might want to keep Rafael a little longer on the sidelines.

Neville or O'Shea now look like half decent 2 week trades.

    Poor form Fa, poor form.

Remember when Alan Shearer kicked that guy in the head? And when Stevie GBH elbowed Brown in the back of the head in full view of the cameras. Oh right, the England captain is allowed to get away with murder. But hang on, Rio was banned for 3 matches for his elbow on that wolves oaf... so it's just Utd who get rodded by the FA, excellent.

Anti Ipswich - Rafael will come straight back into the team, he's been excellent for us.

he will need to curb that attitude though AP, the "he is only a young un" (not that you said that, but in general) will only be a valid defence for so long, I agree that he has been excellent, and is no doubt the future for United, but needs to show a little more measure in some of his defence

He's getting an unfair reputation, most people agreed he didn't deserve to get sent off on Sun, so i don't agree he needs to curb his temperament. Look what happened to Rooney when he did, he's now hopeless 🙂

Typical Manc 'woe is me' whinging. You dodged a bullet with Rooney not getting sent off for his disgusting swearing and name calling of the ref in full view of the cameras, and this was after his yellow for exactly that. Its not hard to lip read read his tirade. Swings and roundabouts.

Erm, dribbling? High pitched? Have you heard Rooney? Some players get away with stuff, some don't. Man U's total temperament to officials is terrible. Potentially punishing a player is probably what's needed.

Utd's temperament to officials is no different to every other team in the league. The difference is only Utd get punished for it. I agree though - it should stop - but the FA can at least try to hide their ABU nonsense and charge another team/player once in a while.

I am currently wc and i brought in berbs, he was missing against spurs but rooney was poor too, I just think berbs this season has been getting a lot more chances when rooney plays and rooney kind of scarifices his goal scroing threat a bit by dropping deeper and orchestrating things while berbs get to play higher and have more chances. But who knows you never can tell!!

    Foster Al-Habsi
    Simpson/Murphy Bardsley Coleman Rafael Ivanovic
    VdV Bentley/Brunt/N'Zog Nani Nasri Adam
    Tevez Carroll Drog/RVP/Rooney/Torres

I have all the positions with options as I feel these are more down to form and some clubs could have up to 3 games before I do this.

If Rafael is out for all of GW24, worth a 4 point hit to bring in, say, Vidic? The alternative would be playing Bardsley, away at Blackpool, and Sunderland lost 2-0 to them at home relatively recently.

So essentially... in your opinion is Vidic likely to get 4 more points than Bardsley in GW24?

Ah fair enough. Perhaps Nasri is finances will stretch? Really don't fancy Young to pay off. But hey that's what this game's all about I guess, if you have a gut feeling go with it

            true....
just realised i can swap Rafael to Vidic so might do that if his ban is extended.

Then possibly take a hit getting rid of Bale for maybe Dempsey

brave and not a bad move. theres whispers about villa selling young to fund the bent move. if the deal goes through before the weekend i can also see young losing his pen duties

I have Tevez RVP and DJ as my forwards. Going without a man utd striker, am i mad? Have 47 pts lead in my mini league and most of them will captain rooney. Should i get rooney for tevez?

One more thing which is a better combo, Bosingwa + bale or VDV + Djorou

I am currently wc and i brought in berbs, he was missing against spurs but rooney was poor too, I just think berbs this season has been getting a lot more chances when rooney plays and rooney kind of scarifices his goal scroing threat a bit by dropping deeper and orchestrating things while berbs get to play higher and have more chances. But who knows you never can tell!! Any thoughts?

      Been thinking the same.

But will Fergie drop Berbatov again for one of the games?

Rooney is more likely to play twice.

I dunno, rooney has more chance of playing both games, but iam hoping berbs plays twice, I currently have him as my captain, thinking of switching it to torres who looks starting to look sharp

ok.. Young's gone off the boil lately.. but is a differential..

Ok to get Rooney or Torres in i have to do this..

    Fabregas > Zogs
    Roda > Rooney

yay or nay?? I'm in a WC so it doesnt matter about hits etc..

More of a 'wildcard or not' question than a RMT:

    Foster (Harper)
Coleman | Vidic | Kolarov (Bardsley, Konchesky)
    Lampard | VDV | Nani | Adam (Y Toure)
    Tevez | Bent | Campbell

Can I get away with two transfers (4point hit) this week rather than the wildcard? Thinking:

    Lampard > Dempsey
    Bent > Rooney/Torres

...or do I need more DGW coverage?

Hmmm NZog Rooney imo. Fabs still not justifying the price yet (I supose like Rooney) but RVP stealing pens and him abd Nasri stealing set pieces too.

    Let's have a quick poll.

Rooney or Berbatov for the next 3 GWs? If Berbatov plays all 3 then I'd easily for him, but Fergie can be an odd ball, like dropping Berba after he scores 5 goals.

      Hmmm... it's a tricky one.

Berbatov seems more likely to score these days but will he play both games. If I was certain he'd play both then I'd choose him...

...which is why I'm leaning towards Rooney (who'll be on penalties I guess). Not in form but surely more likely to play both as he needs the gametime.

It hurts my head. Part of me thinks Nani'll be enough and go for Torres instead...

im thinking Berba. When both him and rooney play, he plays in the 6 yard box and should get enough chances (and is a better bet than Rooney imo). Worry is obviously that Hernandez gets a run out but im hoping not...!

    Morning Guys,
Pretty sure im going to play my WC this week. I've still got my other one spare and so thought i might as well try and take advantage of the (hopefully) upcoming doubles. i could have waited til GW27 but wanted to get in early! Im also trying to catch a rival and hoping the next few weeks will do the trick. WC team currently:
    Foster Kingson
    Coleman Hangeland Djourou Kelly Bardsely(?)
    Fabregas VdV Nani Nzogbia Adam
    RvP Tevez Berbatov

Plan is then to transfer people like Hangland, Nzog, Kelly out over next couple of weeks in preparation for Gw27. I'd want Carroll back for instance. I can then use my other WC for GW28 and set up for rest of season!?

Main worry is that i lose 0.6m on Carroll and 0.2 on YaYa..Anyway does the above look ok? Just looking for some reassurance!
    Cheers

I personally wouldn't worry about the money... having the two wildcards is more than compensation with regards to getting a big fat haul of points.

Team looks good - my only question mark would be the same one you have; Bardsley. I have him at the moment and can't see a decent replacement... but I suppose if the rest of your team is so strong and full of DGWers then he won't play anyway.

If you're unlikely to play him much anyway, how about Bardsley to a Brum def (Dann, Murphy) ready for the TGW in 27 - you can then WC him out in GW28.

Not done one of these for a while so here's my team for next gameweek. No wildcard used, just a 4 point hit:

    Begovic

    Kolorov Ivanovic Vidic

    VDV Adam Dempsey Nzogbia Nani(c)

    Tevez Torres

    Subs: Caroll Elmo Konch

    6DGWers

    thoughts?
