Manchester United have until 6pm today to contest the charge of improper conduct brought against Rafael Da Silva yesterday, with the right-back facing a possible extension of his one-match for his dismissal against Spurs.

Yesterday’s statement by the FA confirmed that Rafael faced a charge relating to “the player’s conduct towards match official Mike Dean following his dismissal in Manchester United’s fixture at Tottenham.”

Dean included details of the player’s reaction to his decision to issue him a red card following a second bookable offence following an innocuous looking challenge on Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Rafael will already miss the first of United’s two fixtures in the Gameweek, the Old Trafford clash with Birmingham. Should he be found guilty of this improper conduct charge he will receive either a warning, a fine or even an additional ban. That would see him sit out the trip to Blackpool and miss the entirety of United’s double Gameweek – at the very least.

While many print and online sources reported the charge yesterday, none committed to a likely punishment. The Telegraph have today stated that Rafael could face an additional one-match ban. Having spoken to the FA this morning, we can confirm that more than one match could be added to his existing suspension. The FA cited a recent example where Norwich defender Liam Barnett received an additional two-matches after he was charged with improper conduct for throwing the ball at the referee when dismissed in the clash with Portsmouth on December 11.

Owners of the full-back can only sit and wait for the verdict – the FA confirmed to us that we are likley to hear a verdict by this evening.

Given the circumstances surrounding the charge one would hope for leniency from the FA. An additional ban would be a major blow in Fantasy terms given the likelihood of returns from Rafael over the Gameweek. United would seem odds on to claim another shutout against Alex McLeish’s side a the weekend, while Rafael’s raiding runs on the right-flank could easily bring attacking rewards at Blackpool, even if Ian Holloway’s side breach the United back four.

John O’Shea would be favourite to step in at right-back in the absence of the Brazilian. He returned to reserve team action last week following a six-week absence with a calf injury. With Wes Brown out of favour and Gary Neville still licking his wounds from a roasting at West Brom, it would seem likely that Alex Ferguson will turn to O’Shea to fill the void.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Got two free. Thinking Varney->Berbs & Kolarov->Kelly. Varney has a DGW but appears to be doing nothing. Final team would then be:

    Gordon (Krul)

    Coleman Kelly Evra

Yaya Adam Nasri VDV Nani - undecided who to bench

    Tevez Torres Berbs

    Thoughts?

Worth shipping Evatt out for Walker (for free on wildcard)? Would probably play Walker ahead of Djourou this week, but wouldn't play Evatt.

However, I'd be more tempted to play Evatt GW27 with 2 home fixtures.. is it worth it to free up an extra 0.2m?? I'm thinking yes, as such small sums could become crucial in gettinf Tevez back after my short-term Rooney punt..

Looks good, but I'd want a Brum defender in, probably in place of Simpson (whose fixtures are poor) in preparation for their DGW/TGW 27.

Also I wouldn't want Kolarov, he seems subject to rotation. Maybe a Fulham defender for the DGW? Stockdale instead of Robinson? Foster's fixtures for pretty much the remainder of the season aren't too bad.

So here it is, Ferdinand in for Kolarov

    Reina

    Ferdinand, Coleman, Konchesky (i know)

    Nani(C), VDV, Fabs, Brunt, Adam

    Rooney, Tevez

    Al Habsi, Carroll, Bardsley, Simpson

.3 in bank, transfer used. so the main question is Konch. was set to drop him but the hint of a feature during the DGW makes me wate one more week, couldnt afford a nailed on united defender for him anyway.
So bardsley or Simpson ahead of Konch? If I play conch, should i consider alhabsi over reina? seems ludicrous but so did the idea last week when habsi scored more than reinas last 3 combined.

Unless a miracle happens and Ipswich hold on to their advantage against Le Arse, the game against Spurs should be off in Gameweek 28 for the Carling Cup Final. Bearing in mind Arsenal have two stunning fixtures for the double in 27 and Spurs don’t have the worst double either, that is a bit of a nightmare.

If Birmingham make it to the final too, their game in 28 will be off as well - And they would have a double in 27 too. So those who were thinking they would have three from Arsenal and also two or three Spurs and Birmingham players (like me!) would be utterly screwed for gameweek 28. Going to be an interesting balancing act there..

Having said this, that Arsenal double in 27 is too good to ignore and VDV and Bale possibly too. The rewards could be that great I would seriously consider only fielding 8/9 in gameweek 28 if the cards fall that way.

so gw28 games that could be off
        ars v tot
        bir v che
        whm v liv

also knowing they have a cup final to play wouldn't many players be rested from the above teams for the second game in DGW27?

Possibly yes. But then again, Arsenal could still be fighting for the title and West Ham/Brum trying to avoid relegation so they may not be able to take that chance.

Still, i think someone should highlight the gw28 matches that could be off in the ticker thing (maybe green or something) as many people playing their wildcard's for the dwg27 games not realising that they could have only 1 game in gw27 and no game in gw28

The Arsenal - Spurs game could well be rearranged to stay in GW28 - Chelsea and Utd are already playing midweek that GW, so the North London derby could be played the same night.

Bloody rafael! This is making me think even more about wildcarding, I may hold out though and change him to Hangeland or Rio Ferdinand, and just make the one change this week, or do people think I need more?

    Robinson (Foster)

    Kolarov Djourou ferdinand/hangeland (Crainey Foley)

Dempsey Adam Nasri Nani (C) (VDV)

    Berbatov Torres Tevez

Not sure I can really bench VDV but I was going to the week just gone instead of Dempsey and I bottled it and that didn't turn out well. I'm probably leaning more towards benching Nasri

I wildcarded after the rafeal red, but my team was terrible. Yours is great for the double this week. You should save it and as you said just get someone like Hangeland or Ferdinand in.

Yeah I think I'm in an ok position for this week and still topping my main mini league (just). Maybe save it for GW27, or get the extra Arsenal/Spurs players in now and save up some transfers to get rid if their game is cancelled.

I would bench Nasri, I think his form has gone indefinitely this season, flame if you must.

You should keep Ferdinand, Hangeland, Kolarov, and the Front 3, but its up to you about Djourou and VDV, both likely to have around 6 points

I don't have both Ferdinand and Hangeland I would get one of them in for Nasri, probably Rio. I probably will end up benching Nasri although looking at the last game he didn't do all that badly.

I'd struggle to convince myself to bench VDV even though I was doing it last week until someone convinced me otherwise and I have no willpower of my own to go with instinct!

Bardsley vs Coleman for the rest of the season.

Whos the better option? I have a gut feeling Sunderland wont be keeping as many clean sheets going forward. I didnt watch the match at the weekend but I heard they didnt defend well against Newcastle. Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

definitely coleman, his spot is nailed on by now id say and his attacking returns make him the best bargain defender in the game IMO. bardsley's had a nice run, but fixtures are quite tough for a stretch, Im going to drop him in my WC, enjoy the slight profit and maybe look his way again several weeks from now.

After 28 points last weekend, I really need somewhat of a boost this weekend, have 7 DGW'ers and am happy with that, as more often than not when I burn points on DGW players, regular week players score better, so, have changed the (C) from Torres to Rooney, seems like a bit of a gamble with Rooney playing the way he is, but I really need a good week, I did Piquionne OUT DJ Campbell IN for my freebie and am benching Nasri over VDV due to VDV (a) being on pens and free kicks and (b) Nasri's current form, VDV had a good few chances at the weekend agains United, team is:

    Begovic (Foster)
    Vidic/Baines/Kolarov (Simpson) (Bardsley)
    Nani/Adam/N/Zogbia/VDV (Nasri)
    Rooney(C)/Torres/DJ Campbell

    Any comments?

Arthur as become quite the multi-media sensation. Coincidently two days after finding my dog I did indeed lose my Drog as part of a wildcard cull. It was meant to be.

For those topping their mini leagues does this have any influence on when you wildcard?

Originally I was thinking about saving mine just because of the double gameweek in GW27. But was thinking more about what others do. Should I let them show their hand first and then build my team around that.

I guess as I'm top I don't really need differentials as it's about them catching me up and not the other way round.

Or maybe I should just play my own game and not worry about others, has been working ok so far although my lead got cut quite a few weeks ago but I've just about hung on to the lead.

I will have 8 double gw players in gw 24 and with the minimum trades could could have 9 for gw 27. Might bench some Man U players in gw 27...scary I know.

I hate giving advice about Tevez. I've never had him this season(yet).
Put it this way: I'm happy to be without him for the next few gameweeks.
Call me stupid, but I'd prefer Berbatov over Rooney although I will have both for the doubler.
Not worth holding onto Bardsley (keep till the last minute for poss profit)
Get Al-Habsi instead of Stockdale and a Fulham def instead of Bardsley.

This Rafael nonsense is quite annoying. I was looking forward to unleashing WC team next week:

    Stockdale
    Rafael/Coleman/Kolarov
    Nasri/VDV/Nani/Adam
    RVP/Rooney(c)/Tevez
    (Foster/N'Zog/Foley/Simpson)

Now thinking of doing Rafael+Rooney>Vidic+Berb... worth it? Free xfers all week with the WC

I think thats worth it, but like most people have said, Rooney has better chance of playing both games

Cheers. If Rafael is only missing one game I'll hold off... in fact if he's missing two I'll probably jsut do Rafael>O'Shea. I'm putting all my eggs in a Wayne Rooney shaped basket this weekend 🙂

Might even stick a fiver on it!

Exactly why does he have to go? He's first choice full back for one of the best defences in the league.

tbf, citys lack of doubles and away games is why i dropped kolarov, but i agree hes still riddled with potential, emphasis on riddle

He may well be, but a total of 14 points in the last 10 GW... 2 point in last 4 GW. Waiting for form/points has failed for many this season. One of my best calls this season was dropping some of the players who should deliver, but didn`t.

Hmm...admittedly the attacking returns have't been as anticipated. But City will keep clean sheet and as long as Kolarov is in that defence he'll score points. I'm gonna stick I think.

That could prove wise, but I prefer getting him back if he starts delivering the goods; but then it can be too late.

Who to play? The others would feature on the bench...

    Tevez, VDV or Evatt.

Thanks. to be honest i'm not too fussed by the H2H ones, and it's nice in a way because the other mini leagues have got a little boring for me in a way.

        My team

        Djourou, Coleman, Vidic,
        Nani, Dempsey, Adam, Walcott,
        Torres, RVP,

        Who to play out of?
        VDV(away), Tevez(away), Evatt (home/home),

          That is tough.

I'd probably play VDV and Tevez and bench Dempsey myself. Fulham have been pretty woeful lately in my opinion, double or not i wouldn't be going near their players.

Good advice is good advice, regardless of rank. Listen to logic and you'll be fine.

seeing alot of vdv to bench proposals, insanity. transfers in for DGWs is all well and good, but if it means benching the likes of VDV, its seems to defeat the purpose. You can only play 11.

I agree, its all about planning for the future, but haven't we learnt it's not all about the high priced players but more about those who are more likely to score...

    Rooney & Carroll
