The Captain’s Poll this week is unsurprisingly dominated by the Double Gameweek candidates with the pull of two fixtures in a Gameweek proving as strong as ever. Where does your armband go though? Follow us in an orderly manner as we run the rule over the most polled players so far…

Nani

Pros

  • He’s selected by 39% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers and is leading our poll on 45%.
  • If you’re a Nani owner, then selecting him as captain is without doubt the safety first option.
  • He’s got a proven track record that has him ranked as the top scoring midfielder in FPL and he also has the highest Points Per Game (7) that’s a nice little profit if he can return on par.
  • There’s also the small matter that he is at home to Birmingham and away to Blackpool this week – pretty obliging opponents by all accounts.

Cons

  • Is the safe option best for you? If you’ve a lead to make up, skippering Nani may not hand you the opportunity to make up ground. Are you better backing a differential or a hunch?
  • Seeing Nani skulk off on 60 minutes (his first league substitution in four months) after an anonymous performance at Spurs last week was a little worrying. Not the reassurance required ahead of a double fixture.

Wayne Rooney

Pros

  • The words Wayne Rooney and double Gameweek brings back all sorts of memories for Fantasy Managers, namely the 32 points he served up the last time a United double arrived.
  • Selected by 12% of FPL teams means he’s a “safe differential”. He’ll provide an alternative choice to the many thousands backing Nani, but doesn’t present the same kind gamble that say, a punt on Damien Duff would offer.
  • Taking penalties and the odd set-piece means that Rooney has the opportunity to pick up points even on an off day.

Cons

  • He’s only just back from injury and could lead to extra concern over his pitch time, be it an early substitution or a bold call by Alex Ferguson to give someone like Javier Hernandez a start instead.
  • His performances this season have been sporadically ranging from the Rooney of old to the Rooney of New York Red Bulls. There’s also some doubt over his role – could he drift out wide or come too deep over these two games to be effective as a Fantasy prospect?
  • The Bonus Point judges haven’t been too fond so far this season.

Fernando Torres

Pros

  • King Kenny is now in charge and the signs are that he may start to get the best out of one of the world’s most potent strikers.
  • Despite beating Liverpool to nil just a few weeks ago, the head to head of Torres vs the Wolves centre-backs shows clear positive signs. Following that, Fulham make their way to Anfield with a record of one away victory in over one and a half seasons.
  • Torres is “one of those” strikers who can 2/3/4 goals at the drop of the hat with no regard for how a game is going (he single-handedly beat Chelsea back in October). If he’s in the mood in both games, a mammoth score could follow.
  • Steven Gerrard is absent for the first fixture but Torres will have his sparring partner back for the home clash with Fulham.

Cons

  • He’s not exactly living up to expectations. Improved performances are a nice sign but Fantasy Managers need returns, not just shots on goal
  • Torres has already played more minutes this season than last, yet he only has 7 goals compared to the 18 notched in 09/10.
  • Scoring is obviously Torres’ game so it almost goes without saying, but if he doesn’t grab a goal your points returns are almost inevitably going to be low. He won’t be a big provider of assists and if he draws a blank, you can surely forget Bonus returns.
  • The petulant yellow card is always a fear with Senor Torres.

Dimitar Berbatov

Pros

  • Feast – Berbatov has already knocked in a brace, a hat-trick and even 5 goals in a game this season. He may well have another explosive burst of scoring in him.
  • His 29% FPL ownership hardly presents a differential, but Berbatov will still provide a tempting alternative to Nani backers, with just 7% of those polled so far favouring the Bulgarian.

Cons

  • Famine – he’s prone to this too. If Berbatov drew a blank across both matches, it wouldn’t come as any great surprise to even his most ardent admirers.
  • Alex Ferguson has shown he is willing to drop/rotate Berbatov if he sees fit – he even dropped him to the bench immediately after his 5 goals against Blackburn. Do you dare give the armband to Berbatov with the worry he will only to play at home to Birmingham this week and sit out the Blackpool trip?

Charlie Adam

Pros

  • Have you ever met a harvester of Bonus Points before? Charlie Adam could come away from this Gameweek with 12 points without even notching a goal or assist. The judiciaries of these awards just love the Scottish playmaker.
  • He certainly is a differential when it comes to captain selection with only 3% favour based on our polling so far.
  • He is a complete set-piece dominator be it penalty or corner. Alongside David Vaughan, he is the heartbeat of the Blackpool side and is invariably involved in attacks, be it supplying the opportunities for his forwards or firing in an audacious long range attempt himself.

Cons

  • Blackpool will be facing two of the sterner defences (Sunderland and United) this Gameweek; even Ian Holloway’s swashbuckling wave of orange may struggle to find the net and that could limit Adam’s returns.

And then those were just the leading five candidates (all double Gameweek players); the likes of Robin Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas at home to Wigan could just as easily match or better any of these options. Carlos Tevez always threatens double fixtures, and then peripheral poll choices like DJ Campbell, Charles N’Zogbia and Nemanja Vidic could prove to be inspired picks for the rare few gamblers.

If you haven’t placed your bets yet, then head on back to the frontpage and mark your ballot, then share your views with your Fantasy Manager peers right here.

So captained Charlie Adam for double gw, captained him last week, do I keep it for the third week in a row. Surely DJ will eventually score from an Adam assist and not make a mess of it?!

looking at WCing GW26, looking at a big payoff GW27 while still having a decent squad for GW26 and two free transfers for GW28 and keeping in mind united and chelseas doubles in GW28

    Foster/Begovic
    ivanovic/Rafael/Coleman/Carr/Murphy
    Nani/VDV/Brunt/Adam/Fabs
    RVP/Tevez/Carroll

    GW26
    Begovic(SUN)
    Ivanovic(LIV), Rafael(ww), Coleman(BPL), Carr(whm)
    Nani(ww), VDV(BOL), Fabs(new)
    RVP(new), Tevez(WBA), Carroll(ARS)

    GW27
    Foster(3GW)
    carr(3GW), Coleman(DGW), murphy(3GW)
Nani(MC), VDV(DGW), Fabs(DGW), Brunt and Adam (both DGW at home)
    RVP(DGW), Carroll(DGW)

    two free transfers:

    GW28-Begovic(WBA)
    Ivanovic(DGW), Rafael(DGW), Coleman(SUN)
    Nani(DGW), VDV(ARS), brunt->Malouda(DGW), Adam(ww)
    RVP–>berbatov(DGW),Tevez(FUL), Carroll (BOL)

really works a treat for me this 🙂 fixtures for all players not bad till end of season either

@Attilla I agree, but I think Walcott is no longer a threat for Nasri, Arshavin and Rosicky are, and he will probably play Denilson again too with Wilshere. Rosicky though is the main threat he hasn't played in like a fortnight.
Newcastle have Barton & Nolan, they aren't very defensive minded. But they do like to get it up and down, loads of counters I'm predicting. Now if they could keep Crouch out of the mix...who sucks btw...

The thing is, any one of about 4 or 5 players could run riot for Arsenal against Wigan, to the exclusion of others. Arsenal could win 5-0 and Nasri could pick up 3 points.

Conversely if Spurs win, as I expect them to, VdV is prime candidate to be the driving force behind that. It's a tough choice and not one I have to make, but I'd be benching Nasri.

Of course, the opposite could be true, but on the balance of probabilities I'd say VdV is the better bet.

    Lads
    Stockdale*,
    Coleman, Vidic*, Skrtel*
Nani*, VDV, Nasri, Adam*, N Zog* (maybe)
    Tevez, Torres*
    bench: Carrol, Kolarov, Bosingwa

Am I onto something or I need more double GW players coverage. I was confident whole week but now I am having second thoughts. I am afraid from Utd striking duo. A lot of lads are gonna captain them so its a risk. I opted for Torres instead of Rooney, after serious debate.

Comments to the team. I will make 4 point hit for N Zog, point hit for Rooney or I will play Barton or Kolarov.

    Cheers,

I think you have nailed it mate, good balance, people can get too caught up in the DGW's, a crap player playing 2 crap fixtures in a GW will retun you a crap score if you follow me.

Rooney and Torres is a close one I think, stick to your guns.

VDV, Nasri, Tevez and Coleman will out score a lot of DGW players IMO.

I have Fabregas, Tevez, VDV and Coleman as my non DGW players and expect big things from them.

the hit to bring in N'Zog looks good, and I think you have more than enough double gwk players. Are you not thinking about Van persie or fabs, or are you planning to bring them in later?

Cheers lads. I think the confidence is back and I will shouting Torres on this site for certain, when he scores.

If I sell Carrol it will be for DJ or Roda, but to much value in him already and that will mean additional "benching headache" so I'll pass I think.

Chris 1 - Fabs and RVP are first priority but with the WC. Now I will have to go without them, but I think my striking force will be Tevez, RVP, Carrol till the end.

Here hoping for another N Zog brace against Arsenal!!!

This is true to an extent, but so far it is 3g 2a for coleman and 1g 3a for Evatt, so not as much sway as you may think.

BPs are 8 coleman, 5 evatt.

Then Sunderland have just lost Welbeck and Bent, so a cleanie is looking more likley in one game.

Of course, Man u could put 5 past them and then you get minus points.

The above is what the inside of my head has been doing for about the last 48 hours...

    Cesc Walcott Nani(C) Adam vdv
    Berba Tevez

    Subs: Al-Habsi, DJ, Kolarov, Simpson/Murphy

Id love that to be a cast iron fact but im not so sure, hes squeezing in johnson at left back despite him playing rubbish in his chosen position on the right when aurelio actually had an ok game when he came in for konchesky. I think the inside two are being rotated as "The Greek" played well and Agger didn't really do anything to screw his standing up. Konchesky & Skrtel seem pretty much what he's starting with inside. I think he definitly keeps Johnson wide. I don't think Kelly played as well as people give him credit for...very tentative, he's cheap but I don't think I would even be comfortable with his lack of aggression or crossing ability from what I've seen. I bet Shelvey gets more minutes in the mid-field too.

To be fair it's mainly Blackpool playersm people are considering benching. I'd bet they brought them in for the previous doulbe, have kept them in their teams and are chosing to bench them in this double.

Any other time id say fabregas without a shadow of a doubt but it does seem like fabregas this season is more likely to get the odd assist and bonus while nasri reaps all the rewards of fabregas' hard work (im not saying nasri isnt working hard) by getting the goals. And any experienced fpl player knows goalscoring midfielders are the holy grail. Despite my overwhelming arguement for nasri i havent got him and in fact have fabregas. Guess im just clinging to the past.

Maybe im bias, but imo Baines is the defender with the most assists so far, & hes playing against the Hammers. Admittedly having Cahill away takes away some of the shine, but Moyes is finally playing 2 up front so you'd expect Baines to be involved.
Evatt on the other hand wont keep a CS in either game he plays.

Ignoring the Birmingham game for a minute as I can't see that being more than a 2-0 win to United, what side you think Fergie will field away to Blackpool?

I'm stuggling to see who he'll play as RM. Surely Giggs won't play 2 games in a week. Could he play a 4-3-3 with Berbatov up top and Rooney and Nani supporting?

That and 'Will Tevez play against Villa' are the two biggest questions on my plate this week.

I am right on the mark with doing Jarvis and Drog out to Torres and NZog. Any chance of price changes for these 4 over tonight. Can't see it on Crack the Code but just need to check cos there are other sites that might suggest different.
