The Knee Jerk

Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch

It’s an altogether depressing experience trying (read struggling) to muster up a Sunday knee jerk when there is only one game and that game happens to be Blackburn against West Brom. With the greatest respect to the two teams involved, from a fantasy football and an entetainment perspective, if I could have handpicked a game I was less interested in I would have found it an impossibility.

Sometimes these games sparkle however and can provide an opportunity to scout for potential players going forward. Sometimes they can even be better than the Rolls Royce games between the big boys. Unfortunately on both counts this didn’t materialise.

Blackburn were triumphant in the clash and whilst the Lancashire clubs fixtures are amenable they notably don’t have an upcoming double game week. WIth this in mind investment in players from Blackburn will surely be limited. Two players which did catch the eye however were Roque Santa Cruz and Junior Hoilett. The former making his first start for the club since his return on loan from Manchester City and the later scoring his first goal in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen whether the Paraguayan can return to the form he displayed when he was being assisted by a certain David Bentley and at 6.5 on the Official FPL game there are surely better prospects elsewhere. Hoilett on the other hand caught the eye for his absolute screamer of a goal and a busy contribution to Blackburn’s win. He stood out in the game as one of the main sources of attack for Rovers but at 4.0 and down as a striker, rather than out wide where he plays in reality, he really doesn’t provide any real prospect of finding a way into our fantasy football teams.

West Brom struggled yet again away from home and the pressure on Roberto Di Matteo is growing as his team trundles through a dip in form. The Baggies do however have a double gameweek forthcoming both games of which are at home. Thoughts of investment in players like Chris Brunt and Peter Odemwingie, who although both quiet today are always good for a goal or assist, should not therefore be tempered by the Midlands club poor away record.

Fact – this game had the most ever different nationalities participating in one game in the Premier League. That was probably the only thing I found interesting from this game.

    My new team...

    Gordon - Begovic
    Rafael - Kolarov - Coleman - Djorou - Kelly
    Nasri - VDV - Nani - Dempsey - Adam
Tevez - Berbaflop - Van Persie

Funds to do Dempsey > Cahill when he's back

    Awesome?

Yeah, I did. Infuriating game, you probably shaded it but both keepers were pretty busy. First goal was crucial, if you hadn't of score just before half time we probably would of been in with a shot of coming away with 3 points.

Looked dangerous going forward but defensively it's just a shambles at the moment, we need a Samba or a Nelsen!

the thing is tho yanky, with a wee touch of jostling you could replace nasri with walcott and then nearly do dj to rvp. so it could still come in handy for you.

I'm guessing he must have already got RVP in this week as he couldn't possibly say the only change he'd make is Nelsen if he DIDN'T have RVP already. He's gotta be top of the list for GW27

Only thing about getting RVP for the DGW is he is unlikely to play the game against Wolves. We play wolves on the 12th and then play Barcelona on the 16th. Chamakh has to get a game somewhere..

No it's not, but it depends who we get in the FA Cup (if we beat Huddersfield). Say we get drawn with Utd, Chelsea, Spurs or City then he might not play against Stoke, or might not get as many minutes.

looking at it i'm thinking of 3 up front. torres, odem and 1 other, if not him, who would you suggest ? its not really a big deal if he doesn't for me coz my auto sub would be fine in a 3-5-2. cahill, brunt, fabs, walcott, vdv. all d/g week players anyway.

nah dude, your spot on, it has been mentioned earlier and would make sense however if Arsenal are still only a couple of points off man united will Wenger want to run the risk of leaving him out. The Stoke game could be just as important a part of Arsenals season as the Barca game.

The only other options are Defoe and Carroll (if hes fit), longterm RVP is a better prospect then both anyway. So like you said, with your team, it doesn't matter too much if he plays or not. Your only decision will be whether to bench him or not for that week.

its funny coz defoe was who i originally thought before odem but then if i go for odem instead it gives me about £3 million to mess around with for the following weeks. makes changing it about so much easier. defoe would have left it a bit tight

Not IMO. It's odd as well because Bent used to find it hard to get BP when at Sunderland. He'd often score and still get 0BPs

    Evening all,

I'm desperately trying to find a way to squeeze Cahill in when he comes back, but here's what I'm stuck with for next week:

    Al Habsi - Foster
Djourou, Pantsil, Kelly - Bardsley, Coleman
VDV, Adam, Nani, Fabs - Brunt
    RVP(C), Tevez, Torres

Thoughts? Thinking of clearing Tevez for Cahill's return...

Not a bad team with which to be stuck. 🙂 I would shop around in the keeper department. Surely Gordon or Begovic are better long term options then Al Habsi. Keep Tevez. Torres had a good day yesterday but, it' not yet proof that he's turned it around imo.

Fancy some free money? Place the following bets:

    Blackpool v Man United
    Under 3.5 goals – £68.51 @ 1.6 = 109 – Betfair
    Over 3.5 goals - £25 @ 4.33 = 108 – Stan James

    Total stake = 68.51 + 25 = 93.51

    Under 3.5 = 109 - 93.51 = 15.5 Profit
    Over 3.5 = 108 - 93.51 = 14.5 Profit

I know this is a football site but hey I'm stuck.

What's the chances that someone trolling this website right now knows how to solve linear equations like this one for example

    2.0755 - 0.0006q_£ = 0.9464 + 0.0019q_£

How do I go about trying to solve what q_£ equals. I have no clue how to rearrange it. like I said, this is just on the off chance 🙂

You can move terms over the other side of the equals, you just change the sign. It becomes 2.0755 - 0.9464 = 0.0019q_£ + 0.0006q_£

      Making it 1.1291 = 0.0025q_£

      answer is 451.64

      1.1291 = q_£ (0.0019 + 0.0006)
      1.1291 = q_£ (0.0025)
      1.1291/0.0025 = q_£

      -0.9464 + 0.0006q_£
