With just the one game to salivate over today it was difficult to get overly excited. Sunday’s solitary fixture saw Everton travel to the Reebok to play Bolton and, with neither team having a double game this week, it was unlikely that many Fantasy Football managers would have had much interest. It did however provide a useful scouting exercise for those of us with half an eye on the Toffees in light of their forthcoming double fixture. So what did the good honest Fantasy Football gaffer gleam from todays festivities?

Well the first thing to note is this game pretty much summed up Everton’s season. Whilst they weren’t overly bad they weren’t particularly good either and its not hard to see why they are languishing close to the relegation zone. The Toffee’s seem reliant on Seamus Coleman and in particular Leighton Baines marauding down the flanks and putting the ball into areas for Tim Cahill to attack. It would be no surprise therefore if investment by gamers is limited to these three players.

Everton’s defensive performances have been nothing to write home about over recent weeks having failed to keep a clean sheet in 9 Gameweeks. However with Baines and Coleman you have two players with such attacking intent that this almost compensates for the lack of defensive pointage. The pricey Baines offers more chance of assists being the better crosser and being involved in set pieces but Coleman’s position of the flank means that he is always likely to be involved in anything Everton do going forward.

Cahill’s record speaks for itself with 9 goals and 4 assists this season. His goalscoring prowess wasn’t as missed as first feared with the walking sick-note Louis Saha coming good with 6 goals in the Australians absence. However as King Louis was, shock horror, injured again Cahill was pushed back in the centre forward role against the Trotters. Investment in the Australian is almost certain to be high particularly with the double gameweek but also with the fact that Everton have three home games in the next four. He was kept quite today bar a missed chance in the first half.

I struggled to find anyone else in a blue shirt today who could justify investment outside the aforementioned trio. I was hoping that a gem might emerge which would be a bit outside the box – alas it wasn’t to be. Not even previous favourite Mikel Arteta did enough today or has been doing enough of late to justify investment in my opinion.

Bolton’s on loan striker Daniel Sturridge continued his fine start at the Reebok with his third goal in as many appearances. Whilst he doesn’t have a double in the offing, at 5.2m on the FPL game, he may well come onto the radar of managers looking to replace Odemwingie at the end of this current double gameweek and definitely falls into the bargain basement differential category. A couple of away games and Manchester United to come may cause many to double take but as with Jack Wilshire, Owen Coyle appears to able to get the best out of young English loanee’s so I expect his form to continue.

Deary me, it seems in my absense today my comment about Faulk has stirred up a right hornets nest. An off the cuff comment that probably wasn't fair, but the point was made, it's out there, and I can't take it back.

It's amazing how something you said can get taken out of context and in this case misquoted.
At least a year ago, Andy put up a list of his 5 best players in the world. Top of my head it was, Messi, Torres, Villa, Ronaldo and Xavi.
I replied saying I wouldn't have Xavi in there as he doesn't score enough goals to be top 5, I never ever said Xavi wasn't world class.

To be honest, I don't expect any less from AP, but you stooped.

All of us stick our necks out and make calls, the difference is, if anyone makes them about United players they're "bitter" and "ABUs".

If people are going to constantly criticises me whenever one of those players plays well, I'm not going to let them get away with the same kind of thing.

I don't like Man United, but I still just call it how I see it. Yes, I think Javier Hernandez's all-round game is below par, and yes I'm still sceptical about Chris Smalling, considering his performances last season. I said when Rooney was playing well that he wasn't the best striker in the world, and wasn't comparable to Messi and Ronaldo. I think what he's done since has proved me correct.

But I also praise United players if I think they're good. I'm quick to defend Carrick, for example, and I've always said Rafael will be one of the best full-backs in the world. You'll never catch me knocking Vidic, Ferdinand, VDS or Nani, because I think they're good players.

Arsenal are hardly faultless, and if someone highlights such a fault, I don't get all super-defensive if I think they have a point. Same way that I don't pretend I think United's/Chelsea's/Tottenham's best players are crap just for the argument.

It's only this measured when it's the case of the defence. The rooney criticism last year was almost epidemic on here, yet when I do the same with nasri I'm suddenly 'embarrassing'. If everyone agreed though, this place would be very boring indeed.

It must a pretty serious putdown comparing you with Fran, I didn't actually realise she was that bad 😉 Maybe she's even more annoyed that I made that comparison.

If I don't think an Arsenal player is up to it, I have no problem saying so. They have a chance to prove me wrong - a few years ago I (and many others) would have scoffed at the idea of Alex Song and Nani being two of the best players in the league in their respective positions. However, a few seasons ago, neither were particularly good players, so I don't regret not thinking otherwise at the time.

I know you constantly criticise Arshavin to point which starts to reek of unfairness and I almost had to step in and defend him.
Look at my ranting about Nani over the last 2 seasons, even this season he had been a right greedy c*** and not always taken the right decisions, but you can't argue with his overall impact, quality.
The Rooney goal was also payback for a whole season of ridicule. It's obvious he is a far better than the form he's shown earlier in the season.

I've moved on from Arshavin. I vented until the expectation ran out. And he's actually played quite well over the last few games, losing his place in the side seems to have given him a much needed kick up the backside.

Rooney has been playing better than earlier in the season, but that's really not hard. He still hasn't been turning up for away games, which he's really needed for United.

I don't remember nor am I suggesting you're making it up. Anyway last season Rooney was incredible, and not just against Hull and Pompey, he did it in Europe and for England, so it was probably in the face of that form.
Anyway seriously, can you really compare the two, they play very different games in different positions.

Fortunately they've been relegated, so we no longer have to hear all about it.

Coincidentally, Rooney has only scored scored 5 league goals this season.

Up another 1200 places after those 4 points from Cahill and Coleman. Hoping for a 0-0 from Brum, Stoke to get battered by RVP and Spurs to concede. Then I'll be happy.

I'm hoping Adam gets booked since I took him out for fear he wouldn't be available for GW28.

Silly move in hindsight. If he doesn't get booked against Spurs I might get him back for Lennon.

Lennon for Spurs coverage as not sure with VdV.

If I'd have known Lennon wouldn't start I'd have left VdV in. Jarvis was for Adam with the intention of getting adam back once 2 game ban served.

I'm not sure about Begovic. Pullis moaned last week about not having his keeper command the box after the Sunderland game. Then he gifted the winner to Birmingham yesterday.

After Pullis's comments following the Sunderland game red flags started going off in my head.

Could see Sorensen getting another shot at the Stoke keeper position at some point this season.

P.S. No worries, and sorry for also being a prat earlier. 😉

Everton's midfield three was quite fluid for a lot of the game, so Cahill, Arteta and Fellaini were each often found in the most advanced role. Arteta certainly started there and they moved around from there. I'm now considering going for Arteta instead of Cahill personally. Cahill's point scoring was good earlier in the season because he was scoring so consistently, much more consistently than usual. If Arteta isn't going to always be playing as deep as he was earlier in the season - and he has set pieces and BPs going for him - he might be a decent alternative to Cahill.

I read you considered the Brum block and agreed it was a sound plan. It means I can only play 10 next week but I get that back the week after and one more if I'd picked Walker of Villa or Kelly of Liverpool which were my other options.

I'll probably invest in cahill in the coming week,s but i wont be doing a thing with my fpl team for a week and a half so no point in even talking about transfers or fixtures now!

Top gear's money to sense ratio is shocking.......

It was alright for a bit but now they've pretty much done all they can do short of beheading a cyclist live on air.

Wise to just sit tight until the next deadline and not worry about price rises. A few more twists & turns are sure to happen between now and the next deadline so patience will be key.

I assume Nani 0 BPs is an admin error yeah? Because if there was ever proof that whoever judges the bonus points were f-kin clueless, it's this.

Scrap the Bonus Points! If it was given by people with more brain cells than eyes, then it may be ok, but it's clearly something that needs to be scrapped.

Cahill's first game back probably meant he wanted to see more of the ball so dropped back a bit. I think at home when they are attacking more he will push up that bit more. Food for thought like you say though.

I have Kolarov and for the first time, i am slightly worried on whether he'll start or not against Fulham. Richards played very well against Utd and Mancini likes Zabaleta. Against Fulham at home, you'd expect 2 of Tevez, Dzeko and Balotelli to start aswell.

I literally have about 10mil to spend on 1 defender, just don't know who, looking at fixtures I was thinking any Aston Villa defender?

Van Persie. But seems he's not playing it'd be Rooney.

And I'll be getting him too.

Need Real to win by 2 goals...
I could strangle Casillas at the mo...
Wouldn't be surprised if Alonso gets sent too if Jose doesn't take him off soon.
