With just the one game to salivate over today it was difficult to get overly excited. Sunday’s solitary fixture saw Everton travel to the Reebok to play Bolton and, with neither team having a double game this week, it was unlikely that many Fantasy Football managers would have had much interest. It did however provide a useful scouting exercise for those of us with half an eye on the Toffees in light of their forthcoming double fixture. So what did the good honest Fantasy Football gaffer gleam from todays festivities?

Well the first thing to note is this game pretty much summed up Everton’s season. Whilst they weren’t overly bad they weren’t particularly good either and its not hard to see why they are languishing close to the relegation zone. The Toffee’s seem reliant on Seamus Coleman and in particular Leighton Baines marauding down the flanks and putting the ball into areas for Tim Cahill to attack. It would be no surprise therefore if investment by gamers is limited to these three players.

Everton’s defensive performances have been nothing to write home about over recent weeks having failed to keep a clean sheet in 9 Gameweeks. However with Baines and Coleman you have two players with such attacking intent that this almost compensates for the lack of defensive pointage. The pricey Baines offers more chance of assists being the better crosser and being involved in set pieces but Coleman’s position of the flank means that he is always likely to be involved in anything Everton do going forward.

Cahill’s record speaks for itself with 9 goals and 4 assists this season. His goalscoring prowess wasn’t as missed as first feared with the walking sick-note Louis Saha coming good with 6 goals in the Australians absence. However as King Louis was, shock horror, injured again Cahill was pushed back in the centre forward role against the Trotters. Investment in the Australian is almost certain to be high particularly with the double gameweek but also with the fact that Everton have three home games in the next four. He was kept quite today bar a missed chance in the first half.

I struggled to find anyone else in a blue shirt today who could justify investment outside the aforementioned trio. I was hoping that a gem might emerge which would be a bit outside the box – alas it wasn’t to be. Not even previous favourite Mikel Arteta did enough today or has been doing enough of late to justify investment in my opinion.

Bolton’s on loan striker Daniel Sturridge continued his fine start at the Reebok with his third goal in as many appearances. Whilst he doesn’t have a double in the offing, at 5.2m on the FPL game, he may well come onto the radar of managers looking to replace Odemwingie at the end of this current double gameweek and definitely falls into the bargain basement differential category. A couple of away games and Manchester United to come may cause many to double take but as with Jack Wilshire, Owen Coyle appears to able to get the best out of young English loanee’s so I expect his form to continue.

So whats the plans for GW28 people? Im sure there are quite a few of us stuck with RJ, VdV, Fabs and RVP.

I'm personally going to go Fabs -> Cahill. Hopefully can buy him back at 11.9

... Upto 943, with 9 players to play, can't believe it!!

Ain't got any Chelsea players so might drop a few places tomorrow, also need to take a hit to field 11 in GW28 but looks like my risks have paid off so far ... sort of!

This is a repost, but anybody playing UCL ff thought about their team yet, mine is shaping up like this...

Anyone mulling over their UCLff wildcard teams atm.

    Mines looking like

    Abbiati x

    Zambrotta Marcelo Cassetti x x

    Nani Walcott Malouda PabloHernandez Vingaard

    Messi Ronaldo Ibrahimovic

    You like?

Zambrotta is out I think. Will Malouda start? Possibly better options than Ibra too. Rest looks fine. Who are your x x x as that is important in this squad game where you can rotate.

Got Thiago Silva in for Zambrotta. Dont fancy Spurs, and especially not without Bale and VdV fit so think Milan have a good chance.

XX are the cheapest players possible, who are out of the competition. Team value is only at 106.8 so not great. Don't wanna leave out Ron or Messi given their form so only way is to have 3 cheapies. Will likely play 3-4-3 or 2-5-3 each week.

I don't want to sound like an arse but you need to change your tactics in this game and have a full squad. The thing is when a player scores bad you can sub them with your bench providing they play at a later date e.g. after 15th Feb
Having 3 players not playing really limits your options and you have to hope the rest start and do well so I would try and turn them into cheap active players if possible.

I try to have my best players playing as late as possible and have the squad fillers playing matches as soon as possible, that way, you sometimes catch the surprise points from dodgy teams that you wouldn't expect to get anything from, and you still have the big guns playing at a later point if this doesn't happen.

Is it wise to judge Kolorov's inept performance yesterday as anything more than being up against the best defence. Is he going to get any returns? Not even sure he will get a start on the wing now, SWP has probably done enough to get the nod.

My estimation of Mourinho has dropped 0.1 signing him on loan. At first it's seems a little desperate, but then I think Real will create chances and he wont have to stretch his legs and move out of the box which kind of suits his style of play.

Higuain is an excellent and very underated player imo, I'd sign him in a shot.
Benzema however just does not fit there at all and needs to move on to kick start his career again.

You probably need another striker and he kind of fits in the United style and play so £20m wouldn't be bad in the crazy prices of strikers lately. The problem is his confidence looks shot to pieces at the moment but the ability is still there.

But we got Hernandez who fits in as the 3rd striker. He's done great as an impact sub, just not sure he's ready just yet to start regular but that's down to him to push for starts.
Anyway strikers aren't a necessity, United need 2 midfielders to replace Scholes and Giggs. I'd like to see Sneijder and Coentrao to come. Also a goalie, Stekelenberg, Neuer or Akinfeev.

7! Any one elses rivals had a stinker in that sense?

I hope Adam does get his 10th yellow soon (maybe not for GW28 though) so that I have a good reason to get rid of him. I've had enough, but the little sod keeps picking up points so I've got to hold.

That's how I felt but I thought if I keep him he's bound to get booked and miss the second game but law of sod meant it didn't happen, he's is annoying because up until the last 3 games or so he hasn't scored huge just consistently but least when he inevitably does get booked I dont have to worry.

Same here goose. I didn't want to take risk so I got Jarvis in for the DGW as a possible differential.

My rival has : Foster (Stockdale so no keeper next week!), Carr, Clichy, Fabs, Bentley, Van Persie and Adam.

Naturally, I'm hoping Adam gets booked so that he only has 8 next week, or 7 outfielders is he gets a keeper.

My rival thought he would have Gary Cahill coming off his bench because VDV played. I said he could still play the second game, his response "what second game?".

It's annoying because he obviously didn't realise but will have Ferguson coming off his bench who will probably get another 6 points in the next home game. Huth, Dawson, Foster, Adam and changed his captain to RVP after weeks and weeks of it being Nani which again he probably didn't realise RVP had a double.

Not that annoying though, he's 121 points behind me 🙂

"In the final scene, on the upper deck, in slow motion, a quiet Amy stands looking around; she looks at Dan, who is lying facedown on the deck. While the ending caused some confusion among viewers, the film's director has indicated that five out of the six adults die, and Lauren just drifted to an unknown island.

The German version of the movie, shows Dan lying motionless, face down on the deck, such that it is unclear if he is alive. Captions at the end that tell viewers that Dan, Amy, and the baby survived, but that Dan and Amy never see each other again."

I'm trying to make sure I fully understand the economics behind the prices on FPL: So the pricing starts off at an arbitrary value based on perceived skill, then price changes based on the net transfers for/against that player right?

If so, why is it that the price a player sells for the median distance for price paid to cost now. I bought RVP for 9.6, I can sell him for 10, and buy him back for 10.4. Will the sell price always be equidistant from the price paid to cost now?

You make half the market value gain on selling. It's like paying a fee and it prevents it from becoming too easy to have whoever you want without some thought and planning.

I'm not saying its a good or bad idea, but you're only looking at that scenario when a player is well, it could hurt even more if it was negative. I figured the "fee" that you refer to was there not so much to easily reward but rather allow managers to meet the values in a reasonable fashion.

Makes sense now, if you can only transfer one per week normally and penalized if done otherwise, imagine how frustrating it would be to get rid of players with sinking values. Especially at the beginning of the season when there's a lot of risk.

Keeps you on your toes. I think a large part of doing well at this is knowing when to keep or sell a player and buying at the right time to maximise the value in your team. This in turn allows you to further strenghten it.

1st para, yes and previous years performance and relative club.
2nd - Thems the rules and if you buy him back again at 10.4 you will get 10.6 if he rises to 10.5.

      Yes to the first bit.

Sell price is always "equidistant from the price paid to cost now"

Well if you buy him back for 10.4 you will sell him for 10.4 if he doesn't rise.

Then you can sell him for 10.5 if his price rises to 10.6.

      Presume that answers your question?

It is not equidistant. Equidistant doesn't imply an integer. If you buy at 5.4 and he goes to 5.5 then equidistant is 5.45. But you only get 5.4. 5.4 goes to 5.7, you only get 5.5, not 5.55) Correct answer is equidistant rounded down to nearest .1.

wtf are talking about. If I'm referring to a point between 9.6 and 10.4. If I want to know an equidistant length. I would take the difference between the two, halve it, and add the result to the lesser value. So what do you get?
          10.4-9.6=.8=>.8/2=.4=>.4+9.6=10. You overthought it.

Btw, I'm from the States, not the UK as you seem to imply.

That looks a nice team, Idk how you managed to afford it though. I have a similar midfield and attack but I have possibly one of the cheapest defence/keeper combinations you can get with players that have a chance of playing. 😛

I'd appreciate it if people rate my team:

    Guita/Kraft
    Srna/Juan (to Bosingwa possibly?)/Oddo/Wendt/Cissokho
Joaquin (is Mata injured?)/VDV/Nani/Gronkjaer (or Vingaard?)/Robben
    Ibrahimovic (Eto'o/Vucinic?)/Messi/Ronaldo

I reckon people think they're buying him in for the Stoke game despite it being part of the same gameweek!

Thing is, I normally google for codes whenever I buy something, for some reason I've never thought to do it for just-eat.

The code may work tomorrow. Just googled it and it's to do with Virgin Media and a romantic night in with a movie campaign or something.

Says 11th - 14th Feb so may work up until the end of tomorrow. For those of you without a partner to wine and dine 🙂

Why does Colin Murray act like he is best friends with everyone on MOTD2, do you think the guests even like him? I hope people don't think everyone from Belfast sounds like that, they always get the people with the broadest Belfast accents on the television and radio.

Guys, really grateful for some ideas...

      Currently have:

      Begovic (Foster)
      Coleman, Kolarov, Huth (RJohnson, Djourou)
      AYoung, Adam, Nani (Fabs, VdV)
      Odem, Tevez, (RVP)

So currently fielding 9 for GW28. Rival has copied team and is ahead so need to differentiate. Have 2 free transfers, thinking Fabs to Cahill and one other(?!) this week then Odem to Zigic next week.

      Please help!!

        Totti - Eto'o - Ronaldo

It's pretty much just a holding team, with no thought put into it whatsoever. I'm liking yours. My next plan was to build a team around Messi and Ronaldo.

Regarding UCL here are my thoughts. Comments are appreciated.

Defense: Heavy investment I see CS in 8finals the teams are very careful. Che and Real defense especially. Plus Srna and Heinze are such a goal/assist threat.

Midfield: I will double on Bayern mid Roben and Rubery. I think they will concentrate on CL and will give me a lot of profit. Nani is also there and one more mid around 7m Walcot or ... Joaquin or ....

Striking force is Messi together with Ronaldo with great 2 option for captain or I could gamble and sell Ronaldo for Ibra/Eto cause I don't see to much goals against Lyon cause Moruinjo will put it tight. Tonight game has also made me reconsider. This will mean actually having 3rd striker not someone only for 2p appearance (Pav maybe or Huntelar or...////)

      Cheers,
      Comments are welcomed.
