Just one Premier League game tonight (and the first of our doubles), but we’d thought we’d open the Dugout Discussion as it coincides with the return of European football. I’m guessing nothing less than a Birmingham City clean sheet will be warmly received on these parts, but hopefully an entertaining game in Italy will ease our pain if that doesn’t come to fruition.

Birmingham XI: Foster, Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell, Larsson, Ferguson, Gardner, Bentley, Martins, Zigic

Newcastle XI: Harper, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Barton, Tiote, Nolan, Gutierrez, Lovenkrands, Best

So Obafemi Martins starts against his former club, and partners Nikola Zigic up front for the home side.

Elsewhere, Mario Balotelli returned for Man City as a substitute as they drew in Greece, and Rafael Van der Vaart makes a return to Spurs’ starting line-upin the San Siro.

    Toon 1st Half Analysis

    Best players so far - Enrique, Mr T, Lovenkrands, Jonas, Harper
    Worst players so far - Nolan for sure and Archbishop Barton isn't having a great game so far.

    I know he isn't Van Basten but I quite like Lovenkrands, he is an intelligent forward who always works hard.

      he has been pants though whenever we see him on tv against english sides. so much so that you can confidently say he will be lucky to score once let alone twice.
      we hear of this great striker then always see this ineffective poser. it doesn't help the most of the time we see him he's up against either the england defence or man utd/chelsea defence which is never easy.
