There are still a couple of all-important double-gameweek fixtures to follow in the next couple of days (with plenty of points riding on Charlie Adam and the whole Arsenal clan), but with the next Fantasy deadline creeping up on us, it’s time to realign the crosshairs and give the fixtures a hearty frisking to assess the mid-term prospects for gameweek 28 and beyond …

The Highs…

Everton
It’s been an erratic season at best, but Everton’s penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea on Saturday will perhaps give them the boost needed to propel them up the league table. Morale isn’t the only factor in their favour – their upcoming schedule of fixtures reads like a dream. In their next six gameweeks, Everton will be playing host five times (to Sunderland, Birmingham, Fulham, Villa and Blackburn), so if they can pull up the drawbridge to “Fortress Goodison”, returns at both ends will surely pick up. A double fixture in Gameweek 29 and unintimidating away trips to Newcastle and Wolves complete a very rosy picture for the next six. Expect heavy investment.

Aston Villa
Aston Villa continue to look decidedly healthy in the “fixture frisking” stakes and it seems unlikely that this situation will change. Gerard Houllier’s side have the best fixtures until nigh on the end of the season – only a trip to Arsenal and a meet with Liverpool in the final two gameweeks appear to present obvious hurdles. In the immediate future, we will see Houllier’s men faced with a very handy set of home encounters (Blackburn, Wolves and Newcastle) that offer potential for immediate returns. Take a good look at Kyle Walker, Ashley Young and/or your Darren Bent, and consider locking at least one of them in for the foreseeable future.

Man City
Roberto Mancini’s men find “frisking favour” courtesy of their next three home games – a set of matches that will have those without Carlos Tevez, crossing all manner of fingers and limbs in forlorn hope of the Argentinian firing blanks. Besides a trip to Stamford Bridge in gameweek 30, we will see City play host to Fulham, Wigan and Sunderland; expectations will surely be high against those opponents, as Mancini’s outfit continue their push for Champions League qualification.

Also to consider: Arsenal, Spurs and Birmingham all have blanks this week but follow that with a continued run of decent opponents; Birmingham even have two more doubles to come. Stoke have a nice set of three ahead of them (WBA, whm, NEW). Newcastle, with Bolton, Everton and Wolves due at St James’ in the next four gameweeks, also warrant attention.

The Lows…

West Brom
Poor old Roy Hodgson always seems to struggle cracking a smile; the fixtures circled on his new West Brom kitchen calendar hardly give him any reason to be cheerful. Having watched his new side miss the proverbial barn door against Wolves, Hodgson has to brace himself for sterner tests in the weeks to come. Don’t be surprised to see some more of his manic face mutilation as West Brom’s easiest opponent in their next eight fixtures looks to be this week’s trip to Stoke – hardly a walk in the park. Games against Birmingham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland, Chelsea and Spurs all follow the Britannia bombardment. Points and Fantasy returns could well be thin on the ground.

Wigan
The consolation for West Brom is that fellow struggles Wigan have also been given very few favours by the fixture computer over forthcoming gameweeks. In fact, their run over the next five is positively evil. Roberto Martinez’s men will be facing off against four of the Premier League’s top five (Arsenal excluded) with their only immediate light relief being a home clash with Alex McCleish’s solid Birmingham side. Hugo Rodallega and Charles N’Zogbia owners will surely be looking to ship out.

Sunderland
Sunderland have at least continued to score goals in admirable abundance since the departure of Darren Bent, but results haven’t been going their way and a quick sneak peak at their forthcoming opponents indicates that they may have to wait longer for a revival. The previously resolute Wearsider’s are definitely going to have trouble keeping sheets clean with the likes of Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City in their line of sight. In attacking terms meanwhile, it could be gameweek 32, when West Brom visit the Stadium of Light, before we see Sunderland notch a decent return.

Be wary of: West Ham – Avram Grant’s relegation scrappers have some tough games against Liverpool, Spurs and United on the horizon. Blackpool – Ian Holloway’s men continue to take the strain of a testing schedule with three away games in the next four and Chelsea and Arsenal next at Bloomfield Road.

That van Persie news is incredibly lulz-worthy. Fabregas (c) ftw!

...and yes, I appreciate how lucky it is. 😉

P.S. Haven't caught any of England's innings so far, why was KP doing his best Geoffrey Boycott impression today?!

Considering people are getting so pissed off about the cricket chat, completely irrationally btw, can we have a thread that is entirely dedicated to cricket?

Although I guess tw*ts would inevitably come over to it and just cause trouble. Posting nonsense like 'Cricket sucks' etc.. What great chat that is. *Boom confused face*

Ridiculous indeed. I wouldn't mind if there was a load of FPL going on as well, it would make it a little understandable but the intolerance for cricket posts considering it is Englands first match in the world cup is out of order.

There is always a fair amount of non-football talk and generally it adds to the overall enjoyment of the site. I'm not particularly into rugby union but I don't have the slightest issue with anyone that wants to post about it on here.
What increased the annoyance at some of the moaners is that one or two of them NEVER post anything in any way constructive, so what are they moaning for? If the cricket posts meant their interesting FPL posts were being lost in the flood then fair enough, but coming on just to moan about people having a chat about cricket is ridiculously petty.

Fab rarely gets taken off. And they will only get rested with 20 mins left if they are a few goals ahead with damage normally inflicted by this pair. Ultimately, you would rather Fab and RVP playing 70 mins than any other player anyway!

To be fair Granville texted me when he heard the news. I could sense the smugness...I could tell he was texting with one hand, patting himself on the back for skippering Fabregas with the other.

Feeling good about Fabregas (c) is understandable following this news and I think we can forgive a little self-congratulation. I might not feel the same if Cesc catches fire tomorrow night.

Nah its not. It was a risk but I believed that Fabs had more of a chance of playing both games than RVP.

And no im not saying it now. I said on Saturday week ago after the Wolves game I cant be arsed to go back but it was along the lines of I reckon fabs will still outscore RVP in the gameweek as he will have more chance of playing v Stoke. Granville and me were talking about it aswell then.

Yes i thought he would "play" both too. Didnt mean i expected him to start or finish both games. I thought he would get about 50min or a sub apperance. Thats why I and many others went Fabregas.

To be fair, in hindsight it doesn't make much difference to me either way. All my rivals have captained rvp too so I was only going to do as well as them anyway. Just would have been nice to gloat if fabs does bring in a monster score. I still hope he does as I'm the only one with him.

People are acting like Fabs has already outscored RVP. I have Fabs but I hope he scores a maximum of 5 points just so all these smug bastards won't be so happy! 🙂

Bit gutted that RvP is out, but Fab still needs 6 to equal RvP (and about 10 to really start making it a difference).

When you review the week as a whole yes, but most will have factored in the points already scored by all players in the first part of the double gameweek and now it's Fabregas' score tomorrow versus nil for Van Persie.

Not following the logic here. Why would you break it down? And if you do, captaining RvP won the first part 26-7.

I understand the logic, I know what has to happen for one to be the better captain than the other.

I don't know what factoring in the first half of the week is supposed to mean. You review the week as a whole, shirley? If you are breaking the week down, then captaining RvP was the correct thing to do for the first half. And I agree it's pointless to say that.

I captained RVP and I'm not surprised he's not playing. I'm just delighted that he got 26 points (As captain). What annoys me are the people who are blabbing on like they foretold he wouldn't play and that's the reason they captained Fabs. I hope he does nothing!

    RVP out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Ok 235th overall. It was good while it lasted. I will remember this position. EBst ever. I thought I could nailed it, I thought this is it. Keeping Simpson, Tevez on the bench, the right captain, but after all the luck is more important in this case. I feel so bad, but what I can do it, that is it. The lads that have captained Fabs will be happy I know. I feel lucky only to have him. VDV, Cahill now RVp this GW is disaster!!! Why this kind of stuff didn't happened in GW 24???

    Damn!!!
