It has been confirmed that Robin Van Persie will be sidelined for Arsenalโ€™s clash with Stoke City on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. The news comes as a huge blow to Arsenal but also to the thousands of Fantasy Managers who opted to captain Van Persie for this current double gameweek; his returns from the second fixture are now lost.

Having already fetched an impressive 13 Fantasy Premier League points in gameweek 27 against Wolves (or 26 points for those who captained the player), Van Persie owners were hoping for a high-scoring conclusion in an attractive fixture at home to Tony Pulis’ men. Scoring a remarkable 10 goals in his last 7 Premier League outings, on top of 15 bonus points and a couple of assists, the Dutch striker has proven himself as a crucial and consistent asset for FPL teams far and wide.

With Arsenal drawing a blank fixture in gameweek 28, Fantasy Managers will have already been plotting to either sell or, more likely, bench Van Persie this weekend. By the time Gameweek 29 comes around, on March 5, Van Persie should have recovered with Wenger predicting a return for Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with Birmingham. Today’s setback shouldnโ€™t ruin long-term plans, but pessimists out there will be more than aware of Van Persieโ€™s previous injuries problems and praying for no further setbacks. With a Champions League second leg with Barcelona beckoning shortly after the gameweek 29 trip to Sunderland, there is also the risk that Wenger may well rest his star striker should he have further fears over the fragility of his hamstring. That will likely depend on the success of his replacements tomorrow night.

In Van Persie’s absence, Marouane Chamakh, who has been used sparingly since the turn of the year and played just 24 minutes of Premier League football, will likely come in and take over the attacking reins. Although lacking in playing time as of late, the Moroccan demonstrated his abilities earlier in the season by scoring 7 goals and returning 5 assists. Nicklas Bendtner will also stake a claim however – he has had his moments coming from the bench in recent matches and will be eager to take his opportunity having been overshadowed by the form of Van Persie.

Cesc Fabregas looks set to take over spot-kick and set-piece duties with Van Persie sidelined. Those Fantasy Managers who captained the Arsenal skipper going into gameweek 27 will surely be feeling far more secure about their decision in the light of this news.

Arsene Wenger has also confirmed that another of his in-form players, Laurent Koscielny, will be missing on Wednesday night. Sebastien Squillaci is now likely to form a central defensive partnership with Johan Djourou for the game.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

to be fair the majority that said they were going to captain fabregas on here also said they were doing it because they didnt expect rvp to play both games

yep, but thinking he'd miss the first game. pure luck imo. although saying that fabregas was agonisingly close to a big score against wolves so a bit of both

i did think hed be sub for this game with the carling cup final and also wenger wanting to match stokes aerial dominance wherever possible so having bendtner or chamakh play instead

this is also why i steered clear of walcott altho looks like he'll play now

i dont think rvp's injured myself, just rested

FrUCK FrUCK FrUCK. Damn you Glass Legs Persie & Cahill. Ditch or bench as opposed to the original "plan" of ditching Arshavin?

    For GW28:

    A) R.Johnson > Kolarov
    B) R.Johnson > Baines
    C) Walcott > Cahill

Already have Coleman and pretty sure I’m getting Cahill in. Which other transfer out of A and B is most appealing?!

If you're getting Cahill and already have Coleman I'd rule out Baines. That's be too much Everton coverage.

R.Johnson > Kolarov will therefore be best. However R.Johnson has a nice double in GW29, are you sure you don't want to stick?

With the DGW, I have an interesting but healthy dillema.

    Kingson (Foster)
Coleman / Huth / Kelly (Djourou / Murphy)
    Adam / Kuyt / Barton / Nani(c) (Fabs)
    Odem / Tevez / DJ

11 playing and I haven't made a transfer, 9.9 in the bank. I was going to do Murphy -> Kolarov, and start Kolarov over Adam / DJ / Odem / Kuyt. Now I'm wondering whether to do DJ -> Rooney instead?

Fair play to all those with Djourou - With Koscielny being ruled out as well as RVP he is surely guaranteed to play tomorrow. I genuinely didn’t think he would play both games in the double. Having said that, even if I knew he’d play both I still would have picked three attacking options in RVP, Cesc and the boy Theo.

I'm surprisngly not that pissed off that Van Persie is out. Mainly because he did so well in the last game and most of my rivals either captained him too or just have him as a regular player so I don't lose out at all. I'm glad Koscielny is out too as a couple of my rivals have him too. My only worry is the one rival who captained Fabs. Hopefully Nasri and Walcott outclass him!

Despite being a bit of a jack the lad (ahem, jock the lad..?) I think he has served a decent apprenticeship under Walter Smith and could do OK.

Having said that, and not being too disrespectful to the other clubs in the SPL, he only has to do better than Neil Lennon to be considered a success..

So Ive managed to squeeze 10 players onto my team for this weeks akward blank…. The only problem is my three arsenal players, van persie, walcott and djourou – and my one spurs player, VDV…

I have one free transfer and transferred in odem for berbs last week and was hoping to put this back to berbs this week. Should I bring in berbs and take a 4 point hit shipping vdv for someone else or just keep odem and bring in someone for vdv?

Did someone say they saw Blackpool at 19/1 to win earlier on today?

No Soup made a mistake, it was 19/1 for Blackpool HT Spurs FT - which is still pretty good.

Oh great. Van Persie out, would of pushed me up the rankings a wee bit had he played. But rival has him (C) as does H2H opponent. Its all about Fabregas now.

Anyways. Good West Ham performance last night. Not that any of you guys give one but I think its amazing, I have been to about 15-20 West Ham Home games, and have never seen us lose! Staggering. And about 7 away games and only seen us lose the twice (Spurs and Reading), but, to be fair, whenever I have gone its when the tickets are cheap and were playing poor/crap sides. Still quite amazing IMO.

Hi all, been haven't been on for a while with no games at the weekend.

Others who have ashley young, he has v. good fixtures, but for the last three weeks villa have scored 4 goals but wasn't involved in any, just got yellows in 2 games.
Are people keeping faith in him? He is a differential over my rival who is 20 points ahead of me, the thing is will he get back on form. I feel the week I transfer him out he's gonna score.
Was planning on getting cahill in for fabregas but now that cahill is doubtful I'm not sure..

    Opinions?
