Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his skipper Cesc Fabregas sustained a hamstring injury in tonight’s 1-0 win over Stoke. The Arsenal boss has stated that Fabregas will be assessed on Thursday, prior to Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with Birmingham.

The fear is that Fabregas has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury, sustained back in November that kept him sidelined for a number of weeks. Wenger had this to say in his post-match comments…

“It is of course a concern that he is injured but it can happen unfortunately. He was very upset, I am as well, but it is not his fault and it is not my fault, it is part of sport. It’s strange that it happened early in the game but we have to face it.”

Theo Walcott is also a major worry for Wenger. The flying winger was stretchered from the field on 71 minutes tonight. Wenger has confirmed that Walcott has suffered an ankle strain and has already ruled him out of Sunday’s final.

Looking beyond Sunday, Fantasy Managers need to consider the likelihood that Fabregas will play a part in Arsenal’s next league game against Sunderland at the Emirates. That match falls just three days before the second leg of the Champions League tie with Barcelona. It therefore seems very unlikely that Fabregas will be risked against the Black Cats given the apparent fragility of the Arsenal’s skipper’s hamstrings.

With Robin Van Persie also nursing a hamstring problem, there’s every chance that Arsenal could go into the Sunderland fixture without arguably their two key attacking players. Wenger has confirmed that Van Persie’s fitness will be assessed on Friday ahead of Sunday’s final.

Fantasy Managers currently sitting on Fabregas and/or Van Persie are faced with a blank fixture in the forthcoming gameweek and must now make a decision whether to risk benching and holding the Arsenal pair, with the hope that they will play some part in gameweek 29.

Right now we’re dealing only in pure speculation but, it has to be said, the chances of Fabregas and possibly Van Persie facing Sunderland, look fairly remote.

We await more information from Mr Wenger.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Maybe this has been covered already...but earlier on today and yesterday there were lots of gloaters who had captained Fabregas over RvP feeling very pleased with themselves because of RvP's injury track record. What's the official line now?

I was quite pleased with the decision to captain Fabregas, as I said to RBJ there was slightly more chance of him starting both games and thus having a decent chance of scoring more points overall.
The first part was dead right, the second part was.... well, not.
But I do have to say, without bemoaning my lot too much - Fabregas was extremely close to having a huge points haul in the first game and obviously was unlucky to get injured. So it was close to being a great move. Not that 'close' helps.
In summation - balls to it. 🙂

No pleased was in the past tense, obviously the points tonight were displeasing 🙂

I flipflopped between Fab and RvP myself and could easily have got it wrong. So I must stress, I'm not trying to rub it in anyone's faces- no schadenfreude here. But plenty of posters were doing that before the final whistle on the gameweek and if I could be bothered I'd check back and find a link. But I can't.

Spoken mainly in jest due to the yellow card threat hanging over him. He wasn't really a rational choice. As it happens he ended up playing more minutes than Fab and RVP combined 🙁

I dont know where the idea came from - maybe I missed some actually Fabs(c) actually gloating and saying they did it cos RVP was an injury risk but for me like many others I did it cos I expected Fabs to get more minutes with the extra options Wenger had uptop and with this Fabs would take more frees, pens etc.

And Fabs did get more minutes and I would have expected a RVP bench place or early shower even if he were fit.

Awesome, now all my Arsenal and Tottenham players are injured. But they miss next gameweek anyway. Don't know what to feel about it. Probably I'm glad that injuries happened to them and not to some of my players from other clubs. Would have to take a 20 point hit in this case...

I got exactly 100 this week, but I'm actually a little disappointed.

I WC'd last week, and loaded up with 11 DGW'ers.

Got 77 points after the first round of matches. 23 from the 10 who played again.

Brunt, Bentley and Defoe were absolutely awful, and I transferred out Adam because I was worried about him getting a yellow...

it would be this as my plan...

          A)
          GW28: Cahill/Arteta in for Fabregas
          GW29: Bent in for Odemwingie
          GW30: Barton in for Nolan
          GW31:
GW32: Bardsley & Lampard in for Huth & Cahill
          buffer 0.1

          B)
          GW28: Cahill/Arteta in for Fabregas
          GW29:
          GW30: A.Young in for Nolan
          GW31:
GW32: Bardsley & Lampard in for Huth & Cahill
          buffer: 0.5

Leaning towards Fabregas out again now. Will save some cash, and I might end up with Nasri instead. But no point thinking about it any more until tomorrow's reports at least.

Fabs, as his price is more stable, and his injuries seem to niggle
Rvp is pretty ok i'd say for gw 29
VDV could be rested pre CL game too?
Adam too for me and is very fragile!

Trouble is I want Odem out first!

Its a toss up really. I guess try to forget the value, and work out which order you'd need to bring them back in if you want, but wait till Sat?

Tis a fickle beast MnL, I know that well enough from earlier in the season.

you're doing well mnl. i remember our chat in about gw12 when we were both wallowing our 500k misery not knowing if it would ever get better. then we both had a punt on the silva express in the hope he'd be the type of differential to help propel us right back upwards.

what i've realised is you pick a good captain and you can get away with a bad choice of subs here and a bad transfer there. if you don't get your cpatain right even a very good gameweek otherwise with spot on decisions is a red arrow. apologise if i'm stating the obvious but: captain is massive!

Tonights RVP(c) gloaters are no better than yesterdays Fab(c) gloaters. Both incredibly unlucky, especialy if (me) got Walcott as well!

7 for me, but got two freebies luckily. May just play 10 and not take a hit, since there is nothing obvious. I'd maybe rather have the 4 points!

Top of the league, a double and only one tough game between here and 35. (Chelsea is part of the double so its a nice bonus fpl wise)

Still, would rather not get Rooney who is overvalued by about 3.0.
