Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with the hamstring injury sustained in last night’s 1-0 win over Stoke. Arsene Wenger has this evening revealed that the injury, although not a major setback, will keep his skipper out of the Wembley clash with Birmingham.

“It is a very small injury but certainly Cesc will be out for Sunday….For how long [beyond that] I don’t know but definitely for Sunday…He is disappointed. We all feel sorry and sad for him. The only way we help him now is to win the Carling Cup as he contributed a lot in this competition.”

The absence of Fabregas for Sunday’s game is not a concern for Fantasy Managers but, the chances of the Spaniard appearing for Gameweek’s 29 Emirates clash with Sunderland certainly are. A return for that one looks fairly remote to say the least given that Arsenal will surely be doing all they can to get Fabregas fit for the Champions League clash with Barcelona three days later. When asked on his skippers’ chances of making the European tie, Wenger was non-committal..

“It is very difficult to give a deadline…It is impossible.”

Elsewhere, Wenger also offered us an update on Theo Walcott’s condition – he looks likely to be out for at least a couple of weeks with the ankle sprain suffered in last night’s game.

“He has a classic ankle sprain. We don’t think there is any more damage to it. But it is still a sprain. We are sad for him too. He is out for Sunday and maybe one or two more weeks more.”

Wenger did have better news on Robin Van Persie, Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby however. All three are fit and in contention for Sunday’s final.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Kenny Dalglish said in his post-match comments: "Martin Kelly felt a wee twinge at the top of his leg so he had to come off at half-time." No indication of whether it was just a precautionary measure though.

      Is that a (c) question?
      I'm going Rooney (c) but only because I'm forlornly chasing a 90 point lead in my work league and have to gamble

    Coleman, Vidic, Walker, Kelly, (Carr)
    Nani, Cahil (VDV, Adam, Ferguson)
    Odemwingie, Tevez, (RVP)

    Already used my 2 free tfrs
    Djourou -> Coleman
    Fab -> Cahil

    Still can field only 9 players, assuming Kelly and Cahil plays.
    Is it worthwhile to take 8 point hit to
    RVP -> Bent

    Hmmm what to do, what to do..

    I currently have 10 players this week, including Wilkinson of Stoke who is out of favour.

    Do I transfer out Fabregas for Young? (I think Fab will be back for Sunderland H), or transfer out Wilkinson for Huth? Saving a transfer because I'd want fab back in anyway.

    Any advice?

      If you really want Fabs, don't bother to sell him. If you do, you'll still have Wilki who doesn't play anyway. I haven't been following the situation with him, but if he is not playing, sell him and play 10.

    Points HIT
    you got the whole season (or until your next WC) to make up the 4pts… its not just the following GW that counts… budget also plays in. its not a simple calculation
    If:
    (average points gain per transfer) x (number of weeks until WC or end of season) > 4
    you win.
    The limiting factor is the number of “good” transfers you can make each week, which is why 4 pt hits generally pay off better than 12 pters.

      Never taken a 8 point hit in my past 3 years of ff. But will take it this time to field 11. The players I get in would be Everton / Villa, so that next few weeks go by better. Sounds reasonable ?

      You're right, especially about "good" transfers, which is key. If you make good transfers to begin with, you'll rarely have to take hits.

        I think he strongly backs double gameweekers. I have to say if youve got nani in your team (which you should have) then your captain choice is already made anyway. No need for other options.

    Hey guys

    Seriously thinking of not taking any points hits and just playing 10 this week ( provided there aren't any more injuries etc ).
    Reasonable tactic or not?

    Team is:

    Begovic

    Walker Coleman Kolarov Kelly

    Cahill Nani Young

    Odemwingie Tevez

    Bench: Sir Chesney, Fabregas, RVP, Adam, Carr.

    The only players I really want are injured or don't have a game this week. Fabregas > Nasri next week seems like a fair swap. What dou you reckon?

        Plan B is Fabregas > Barton and Odem > Rooney but I just don't fancy it for some reason, not least the -8 points. I don't fancy Cahill or Young either, but they're in the team.

            Yep, already bought Cahill to beat the price rise. Actually, looking at fixtures and future plans Fabs > Barton and Odem > Rooney could be a very smart move, despite the loss of points. I'll sleep on it.

    Right, I'm going to the moon in a couple of hours so I need to sort my team out now as I won't get another chance this GW.

    I can't be arsed to trawl through all the comments, but does it look like Cahill will be fit this week? I'm not bothered that he's gone up 0.1. Prices at this point of the season mean very little to me.

    OK, kids...I've dropped a 12 point bomb 'cos otherwise I had about 7 players to field...Calculated the risk, and now it looks like this...

    Out = Fab, VdV, Adam, Stockdale
    In = Cahill, Meireles, Silva, Begovic

    Gonna get ma boi VdV back for a in good time. The Fab man may have to suffer a Nasri to the face. Silva, Cahill and Meireles will have to show me the money or they're out on their beer butts. We'll see...

    So, my team:

    Begovic
    Rafael/Enrique/Kelly/Walker
    Nani(c)/Cahill/Silva/Meireles
    Berbatov/Tevez
    Subs: Foster/Djourou/RvP/Bale

    You gotta hope and pray that you make some day...Done?

      Are you in position where you're looking to catch up in a mini-league? If so, then what the hell, you may as well jump in head first and go for it.

      If you have a queit one, and then Fabs, Adam and VDV all kick off in future weeks, then you may end up badly regretting it. Certaionly, when they're playing, the people that you've got in aren't as good as the ones you taken out.

        Ya, is the catch-up. VdV and the Fab can always comeback - I put money in my purse, so the bank is happy. Adam is probably cooked, so he's done.

    On my wildcard, and need to tinker around with my defence a bit to get myself an extra 0.1 million. Which of these options is best, from now til the end of the season, as I definitely don't want to be spending any more transfer points on defenders:

    a) Sczesney, Walker, Jose Enrique.

    b) Foster, Djorou, Simpson.

      Definitely B although it will obviously mean you'll have to bench two of them

    Any comments on this as a wildcard team?

    Begovic (Foster)
    Coleman, Simpson, Huth, Kolarov (Djorou)
    Cahill, Merelies, Nani (VDV, Adam)
    Saha, Tevez, Rooney.

      Morning lass.

      You can never tell with Chelsea these days.

      I'm still trying to justify getting Cahill. Everyone's doing it but I'm not sold on his form.

      Was thinking of doing Rooney for Odem (which I will do) and then Tevez for RVP.

      But, since I'll want RVP back next week maybe I should leave him in my team and get rid of Lennon or Walcott?

        I'm not getting Cahill this week. Might well do if the double comes to fruition.
        I've already ditched RVP.
        Tempted by Malouda for this week in place of Walcott.

                Chelsea will stuff Utd I think and then go on a run. Just seeking reassurance that Malouda will play.

    Also have RVP and VDV in my side.

    Transfers im thinking of are..

    Walcott & Kelly/Huth -> O'Hara & Evra
    Fabregas & Kelly/Huth -> Cahill & Evra
    Fabregas & Odemwinge -> Cahill & Berbatov
    Walcott & Odemwinge -> O'Hara & Berbatov

    Any suggestions/advice? Cheers.
