After a turbulent season which has included the shock sacking of popular manager Chris Hughton and sale of star striker Andy Carroll, Newcastle finally seem to be giving their fans something to smile about. Since their remarkable comeback in the 4-4 draw with Arsenal, the Magpies have kept consecutive clean sheets in an impressive 2-0 away victory at Birmingham and a spirited goalless draw at Ewood Park.

After their heroics on the road, Alan Pardew’s men return to St. James Park for a run of three fixtures on home soil in their next four (BOL, EVE, stk, WOL). These games will surely be targeted as crucial matches which could cement their place in the Premier League next season; they are all certainly winnable.

This key combination of good form and attractive fixtures, in addition to the fact that Newcastle players generally boast low-to-mid valuations, screams potential for Fantasy Managers. And, if you’re looking for the form guy within Alan Pardew’s squad, you need look no further than Joey Barton.

In his last four gameweeks Barton has laid on more goal opportunities, had more shots on goal and enjoyed more touches of the ball than any other player in the Newcastle midfield. Our Members can see the stats behind Barton’s recent form for themselves in the Members’ Area – they make compelling evidence in Barton’s favour.

Another appealing aspect of investment in Barton is his involvement at set-plays. Again, over the last four gameweeks, Barton has contributed the most corners in the league; he is also the principal direct/indirect free-kick and spot-kick taker at the club.

Priced at 5.0 on the FPL game, Barton is a steal and would line-up nicely alongside some of the more lavish midfield offerings, and provide a ready-made replacement for those shedding Blackpool’s Charlie Adam in the light of his suspension. For a low price option, Barton has accumulated a notable return of 101 FPL points this season. This includes 17 bonus points, 4 goals and 6 assists.

Fellow Newcastle midfielders Kevin Nolan and Jonas Gutiérrez are also worth monitoring over Newcastle’s obliging run of opponents – they could easily rival Barton for FPL returns. Nolan has been Newcastle’s top points scoring midfielder, fetching 101 points thus far, having found the back of the net on 10 occasions. Like Barton, Gutiérrez has also been in strong form and his recent supply from out wide has been nothing short of superb. Again, our Members need only check out his Distribution stats, and in particular his “Successful Crosses” over recent gameweeks, to assess his current form.

Bolton could well provide a stubborn opponent for the Magpies this weekend having kept five clean sheets in their last six matches, but even beyond gameweek 28, it’s clear that there is great potential in Alan Pardew’s midfield, with Barton arguably the leading contender.

paddy sayspaddy says

Barton to score 2 or more goals against either Bolton or Everton combined 10/1

Barton to be sent off against either Bolton or Everton 10/1

Barton to score a hat-trick against either Bolton or Everton 80/1

What is the difference between refined sugar and the sugars you get in fruit, the way they get processed by your body? I'd imagine fruit is almost entirely fructose, but is fructose better for you?

Or is there actually little difference?

Nutritionists agree that, basically, anything that occurs naturally, inc fats, are good.

Anything man made or artificial is usually laden with stuff that stops you losing weight.

I'd use your free transfer this week on natural sugars. They're a season keeper and proven to be fixture proof.

OK think I have my transfers sorted:

RVP > Rooney (already done and he has a double, so could make up the 4 point hit)
    Adam > Barton
Fabs > Young (Villa have a very nice overall run now until the end of the season)

Now I just have to hope all 11 make it!

Not saying you're wrong but i disagree with the logic - otherwise what would be the point of the loan at all?

The best player should (and probably will) play. I'm fairly confident that Walker will be alright and until i see otherwise i won't worry about it too much.

the point of the loan was to get cover for a player that was out injured

You think spurs would loan them a player on the basis that he is injury cover and that alone? They will want him to get games - not that simple.

The point that i was making is that just that he is there on loan probably won't come in to it.

Spurs are better than Liverpool anyway and Walker will be playing for them and also got an England call up - not that any of that makes a blind bit of difference as to who will play/who is better.

yes because when they loaned him out they knew he would be getting games for a while which he has

harry loaned danny rose to bristol city this season, when he was dropped for a few games he recalled him as he didnt want him sitting on the bench, he didnt stipulate to our manager that rose had to play every game

Firstly i disagree - why would anyone be that blindly stubborn? The best player will play - the fact that he is a loanee won't come in to it - why would it?

Why not a month loan instead of a season loan if it was that clear cut? You're oversimplifying it for convenience.

Secondly you're suggesting that Harry loaned him out on the understanding that once Young returned then Walker wouldn't get any gametime regardless of form/ability which is just plain stupid.

Hope everyone’s well, serious thanks to this site, but currently 84th in world and more importantly 18th in Feb month. was 4th but RVP and Fab hurt me by not scoring in second game of DGW.. anyway would love a craic off the oul digi camera and other pressies but have the same conundrum as most.. What ye boys think?? Obv. no points hit so have one transfer to have a cut off feb.. thinkin rvp > rooney but that may jeopardise my overall.. logic tells me fabs out and a long term mid in, either young / barton or cahill and then do mereiles back to fabs when fit….

    Hart (Harper)
Huth Vidic Simpson Kelly (r. Johnson)
    Nani(c) Mereiles Nzog (Adam Fabs)

Been waiting for these assurances but it looks like we have received all the news we will get now before deadline.

For me, Cahill will have to wait for next week.

I dont see any sense in transfering in a doubtful player when so many are struggling to field 11.

For me it would mean dropping to players who are out (fabs or adam) for a doubtful Cahill...just dont see any logic in that.

despite this, cahill would be my first choice if fit

Personally i am not convinced by Rooney and would rather keep RVP despite his absence this GW. Either way you look at it, we are completely relying on Utd ripping Wigan to shreds for any major returns as the Chelsea game is likely to be tight. Utd have been less than convincing on their travels, even more so Rooney.

I believe having RVP reduces the risk somewhat of not having Fabs, therefore, i would probably dump Fabs for one of the 3 you mentioned or Silva

The extra cash could be used to upgrade Nzog or Mereiles to Nasri is needed or to upgrade Odem.

Downing or A Young to replace Fabregas this week?

I know A Young plays further up the pitch and is often on pens, but over the last few weeks he's done bugger all, while Downing's consitently racked up reasonable FF points. Heart says Young, Head says Downing. Thoughts?

Spent yesterday comparing both and Downing's work rate stats are better than Young...Goals and assists are close...I prefer Downing and he comes at a 1.2 million discount. I just don't see the upside for the money...IMO

Ashley young has this erractic form which brings returns on/off/on/off. I know ppl hate it when you say it, but he's 'due' a return and blackburn at home has been one of the more appealing fixtures for the home side this season. I'm considering odem>bent becuase of that but will prob do walcott>silva instead

I'm beginning to think, that with all of the point hits flying around, that fielding 10 this week with no hits might be the way to go. Although, as someone pointed out earlier, a 4 pt hit really becomes a 2 pt hit as it saves you from a blank. (Provided you don't pick a defender who allows 2 goals and gets carded.)

Yeah Rooney in, is my hit, but he could make those 4 points up with his extra game.

It's not so much this GW, it's even more about the next 2 or 3 and how you get some players back in.

Good point on the Double GW, though I already have 3 from ManU. One hit works ok for me but two means I amy have to transfer someone out and then back in, which I really want to avoid. Ultimately, it will come down to catching they leader in my mini league. I think he currently has 8 playing so I need to maximize every GW as I am 59 points back.

See, I would take a hit to get Cahill this week if I knew he was going to play, then I would have 11. I planned on bringing him in and his double and remaining fixtures make the hit much less damaging.

            Herman murman -

It would be the death of scottish football and i for one am not for that.

If Rangers and Celtic went in right now they would be in a relagation fight, however with the income & size of both clubs they would both break into the top 6.

It would be good financially for both sides of the old firm but I as a scotsman cant see it and dont want to see it.

A british cup would be pretty good though....

I am happy being scottish and having our own FA. I also hope that there is not a british olypmic football team as It could be used as an arguement for creating a british football team.

I am happy with the set up just a bit jealous of the income the EPL gets in comparison to the SPL.

Herman, it's just not going to happen. If it did, all the home countries would lose their individual voting rights with FIFA (which the rest of the world hate as the home countries are unique in this way), and there would eventually be a GB team following on from that. It would not be worth it.

They were invited to join when the football league was expanding. It was never set up as an English FA Cup or English football league. Scottish clubs played in cup early on, and there was so many of them they eventually formed their own. There weren't enough clubs in Wales to form a league (and they played most of their friendlies v English clubs anyway) so it made sense to be invited in.

    Coleman, Kelly, Rafael
    Nani, A Young
    Tevez, Wingie

Out: Foster, Stockdale, Bosingwa, Djourou, Fabs, Adam, VDV, RVP

How's this for a long term plan?

GW28: Bosingwa, Fabs & RVP -> Kolarov, Barton & Rooney (8 point hit)
    GW29: Wingie -> Saha
    GW30: Tevez-> RVP

As if you need my help! nice rank.
I have to be honest mate I cant pic!
I suppose Barton is more consistant as he gets BP and is on Pens and freekicks sometimes.
BUT Nolan has games where he can explode and hes still playing high up, from what Ive read Lovenkrands is playing quite wide and Nolan still up behind Best. Then again Best isnt Carroll so you could make an argumnt for Nolan's service dropping off...

Thoughts on bringing Arteta in over Barton?

I have doubts with Arteta, even with his DGW, as he's just getting very low single figure scores and seems to always assist the assist.

Arteta is a move people are talking about JUST to have a further Everton player for a double next week, and it is madness, the rationale for going for Arteta just because Cahill is a doubt is madness, Baines/Coleman and Cahill are the only 3 people I would want in that team, Saha is just too much of a risk with his injury record. I would steer well clear of Arteta and this weekend I am steering well clear of Cahill too, Barton in for Fabregash!
