After a turbulent season which has included the shock sacking of popular manager Chris Hughton and sale of star striker Andy Carroll, Newcastle finally seem to be giving their fans something to smile about. Since their remarkable comeback in the 4-4 draw with Arsenal, the Magpies have kept consecutive clean sheets in an impressive 2-0 away victory at Birmingham and a spirited goalless draw at Ewood Park.

After their heroics on the road, Alan Pardew’s men return to St. James Park for a run of three fixtures on home soil in their next four (BOL, EVE, stk, WOL). These games will surely be targeted as crucial matches which could cement their place in the Premier League next season; they are all certainly winnable.

This key combination of good form and attractive fixtures, in addition to the fact that Newcastle players generally boast low-to-mid valuations, screams potential for Fantasy Managers. And, if you’re looking for the form guy within Alan Pardew’s squad, you need look no further than Joey Barton.

In his last four gameweeks Barton has laid on more goal opportunities, had more shots on goal and enjoyed more touches of the ball than any other player in the Newcastle midfield. Our Members can see the stats behind Barton’s recent form for themselves in the Members’ Area – they make compelling evidence in Barton’s favour.

Another appealing aspect of investment in Barton is his involvement at set-plays. Again, over the last four gameweeks, Barton has contributed the most corners in the league; he is also the principal direct/indirect free-kick and spot-kick taker at the club.

Priced at 5.0 on the FPL game, Barton is a steal and would line-up nicely alongside some of the more lavish midfield offerings, and provide a ready-made replacement for those shedding Blackpool’s Charlie Adam in the light of his suspension. For a low price option, Barton has accumulated a notable return of 101 FPL points this season. This includes 17 bonus points, 4 goals and 6 assists.

Fellow Newcastle midfielders Kevin Nolan and Jonas Gutiérrez are also worth monitoring over Newcastle’s obliging run of opponents – they could easily rival Barton for FPL returns. Nolan has been Newcastle’s top points scoring midfielder, fetching 101 points thus far, having found the back of the net on 10 occasions. Like Barton, Gutiérrez has also been in strong form and his recent supply from out wide has been nothing short of superb. Again, our Members need only check out his Distribution stats, and in particular his “Successful Crosses” over recent gameweeks, to assess his current form.

Bolton could well provide a stubborn opponent for the Magpies this weekend having kept five clean sheets in their last six matches, but even beyond gameweek 28, it’s clear that there is great potential in Alan Pardew’s midfield, with Barton arguably the leading contender.

paddy sayspaddy says

Barton to score 2 or more goals against either Bolton or Everton combined 10/1

Barton to be sent off against either Bolton or Everton 10/1

Barton to score a hat-trick against either Bolton or Everton 80/1

Rooney, don't think I have the stomach for another dainty midfielder getting hurt on my DGW. So it may be Tevez as well can't make up my mind between he and Wayne.

That scares me as well Sith, but they are still thin upfront, if they can snuff the Dempsey probing dribbles they (Fulham) won't really be in that many positions to score.

Any Man U fans (or anybody with more knowledge than me) want to break down the Man U defense for the double? As in likely lads in either game.
Only certain starters seem like Vidic and Evra?

Rafael and Smalling should be the others.

I wouldn't bother though personally. 2 away games isn't too appealing for a defender - i'd rather back someone playing once.

Wildcard and number of free transfers?

I don't know about the Evra injury, hold onto him for now. Kelly is 50/50 hold on for now. Bench Johnson R. Possibly sell Djourou.

Sell Walcott for another midfielder possibly Young A or Meireles. Sell Adam since he isn't playing for two gameweeks, just get a temp player like Barton.

      Keep RVP.

I also have Cahill and Kelly doubtful.

I think i'm going to swap Adam for Barton, since once Adam returns they have some away fixtures.
I'll also do Djourou for Smalling or Huth, meaning next week I can do Robinson for Schezney.

Im finding it hard to get a United forward, can easily have the money but it could be two 2 tough games.
Il want Berbatov in long run again prob Bolton at home so taking a hit this week for Odem could work out then again he could easily get 3 points over the 2 games.

        K. Richardson (5.3) or a real punt like West Ham’s Thomas Hitzlsperger (5.0).

Only got 5mins team. Abroad on very dodgy reception.
No game for: RVP, fab, VdV, djourou, Carr, Adam. 2free transfers:
      Thinking of;
      Djourou TO k.walker
      Fabregas TO Cahill
Is Cahill injured though? Who should I get instead? Cheers

Here are some player suggestions in and out:
IN: Meireles, Cahill, Silva, Young A, Barton/Nolan, O'Hara

OUT (In order of taking them out): Fabregas, Adam, Djourou.

Leave the rest in RVP essential as is VDV, Carr can keep the bench warm.

          Sorry for stealing ur post.

Yateszy really leave RVP in? Not worth it to get Rooney in for the DGW? I bought him for 9.6 so would get 10.0 for him, really sell Djourou instead of RVP?

I would get both RVP and Rooney.

            Djourou is not essential.

Got the following injuried / questionmarks:
      Djourou (no gw)
      Dawson (no gw)
      Kelly (doubtful)
      Adam (suspended)
      Fabregas (injuried/no gw)
      Lennon (no gw)
      Van Persie (injuried/no gw)

Don`t like to take hits, but feel like getting rid of: Fabregas, Adam and Van Persie. Investing in Cahill, Meireles and Rooney. Thoughts??

Expensive and Fabs will most likely miss SUN anyway according to the home page/having Barca 3 days later.

Just taken my first points-hit of the season, and that was to bring in one player who's 'doubtful' (Fellaini), one thug who could start a fight in a phone box (Barton) and a defender from a team who haven't kept a clean sheet since December (Coleman).

      Wish me luck guys!

This week is so hard, please please please rate my WC team.

      Hart (robinson)

      Kolarov Luiz Simpson Kelly (djorou)

      Nani Nolan Yaya Arteta (Adam)

      Saha Rooney (RVP)

Is it silly Wcing and still having 3 unavailable players?

        Saha is a doubt.

Arteta is not getting the points he got last season.

        Lacking Tevez.

Saha i was thinking ahead to the DGW.

Could do RVP to Tevez, but would need to downgrade Toure or someoneelse 0.6?
