As you will have read in countless reports this morning, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended after testing positive for a ‘specified substance.’

It is believed that the test results were taken from the Manchester derby at Old Trafford last month. The Ivorian international has the chance to request a another sample he gave at the same time is tested. Depending on the outcome, Toure could face a maximum of two years out of the game.

The former City captain, who has cemented himself as the first choice central defensive partner alongside Vinent Kompany, looks set for a lengthy spell out of the first team. In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms this thrusts Joleon Lescott into the limelight. The former Fantasy favourite is likely to become a regular starter for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Toure holds 10.5% FPL ownership and his immediate ban looks set to cause many a headache, with the deadline fast approaching. A simple option for Toure-owning Fantasy Managers to consider is a straight swap for forgotten man Lescott. Since his big money move to City in 2009 he has had to settle for a bit part role, with the form of Kompany and Toure keeping him out of the starting XI. Priced 6.3 in the FPL game, Lescott is valued just 0.1 less than Toure.

Whilst at Everton Lescott was practically an FPL institution, in the 2007/2008 year alone he notched up a mammoth 196 points, quite a feat for a defender. Lescott offers a serious aerial threat, often finding the back of the net in his days at Goodison Park. The Lescott of yore was also very capable of catching the attention of the FPL bonus points judges, in the 2006/2007 season he fetched 27.

Of course a lack of match time and a change of scenery may have hampered Lescott’s potential slightly – he is no longer a big fish in a small pond at City. But with many Fantasy Managers finding a Toure-shaped whole in their teams, he may just be the perfect fit.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I find talk of bringing VDV just nuts. He may well get saved for the Milan game/not be ready to start yet. And even if he does start, Wolves will be tough and he is so injury prone he willl likely only play an hour at most?

The problem with my current Lampard quandry is that I just don't see a better option in the Chelsea team, Malouda has been moved out of the front line (but I suppose he could of scored against United with that volley, and then we might all be considering him again), and his form has dipped, Drogba/Torres/Anelka, neither of the 3 are guaranteed starters.

In a weekend where it seems like a good chance exists for Chelsea to steamroll Blackpool, I feel compelled to get Fat Frank, I just don't want to be regretting it next week when 12.7 of my precious budget are tied up in him!

I can spend 4 points and do a straight switch from Giggs to Lampard, decision is that bit easier as Giggs was only a double, miserable, punt. But, as MnL says, alot of funds, I just wish Drogba or Torres were in some kind of form and looked assured of starts.

When I look at all the other 8-10 mids and their points potential (Nani, VDV, Nasri, we all know the names) and then at Lampard, I just don't see him getting that many more points to justify the extra price.

However, I also remember Lampard nearly costing me my minileague last season in the second half of the season...but is he/Chelsea the same monster now?

    A) Barton+RVP+Cahill out, Nasri+Arteta+Saha in (8pt hit)

    Or...

    B) Cahill+RVP out, Lampard+Zigic in (4pt hit)?

He wasn't close to being worth 12.7 million playing in a midfield trio with licence to attack with Mikel and Essien covering, so why do people think that playing alongside just Essien (i.e. with significantly more defensive responsibilities) suddenly makes him a great option?!

I guess he's scored a couple of penalties recently.... Well done him.

Was just thinking the same, I think I have been brainwashed by it, as I was considering Cahill>Lampard, but am now thinking surely Arteta. Its the one week fixture thats doing it, Blackpool are going to get ruined at Franks gotta have some involvement in that.

same could be said for your decision to look at Arteta too though, only for the fact he has a double fixture, which isn't that great as Everton are hardly in great form, you wouldn't even be considering Arteta would you? It would be Nasri or VDV, interesting to hear that JP doesn't rate his chances very highly, my head is/was being turned by the chance of goals, goals, and more goals at Blackpool.

Glad I have been sensible to this point and have held firm.

well he came on for 21 minutes against Chelsea, so I think in a must win game, where they will need goals with a banged up rear gaurd, he will play, with Nani on the right, and Berbatov and Rooney up front.

Malouda, Anelka both look like the only reasonable forward options for me budget wise, wish i could stretch to Lamps but I don't want to down grade RVP to Carrol or similar in order to free up cash. Rooney is beginning to look essential along side Tevez for FPL... I mourn to woeful fitness of Arsnel players and the squandering of what could have been a great run for Walcott & RVP. 🙁

    Foster - Al Habsi
    Kolarov - Huth - Rafael - Coleman - Djourou
Nani - Van der Vaart - Meireles - Downing - Barton
Tevez - Berbatov - Van Persie

    1 free, 2.8 in bank.

Thinking of going RVP -> Zigic.

Wondering if I need to take a 4pt hit to take another transfer - unsure of injury status of Barton, Meireles, VDV. Also need to get rid of Rafael.

Well I've already brought in Zigic for Odemdoubtful so I think I will do the Nasri change, it gives me a better all round team, plus there is no-one that really leaps out for a RVP replacement - United have a tough game, don't fancy Torres yet etc....
As for your Silva thing that was unlucky, he's a good player, but just isn't rewarding his owners. Plenty of good cheap options in midfield instead of fatty Adam as well, can't wait for Ben Arfa's return he'd be straight in.
