As you will have read in countless reports this morning, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended after testing positive for a ‘specified substance.’

It is believed that the test results were taken from the Manchester derby at Old Trafford last month. The Ivorian international has the chance to request a another sample he gave at the same time is tested. Depending on the outcome, Toure could face a maximum of two years out of the game.

The former City captain, who has cemented himself as the first choice central defensive partner alongside Vinent Kompany, looks set for a lengthy spell out of the first team. In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms this thrusts Joleon Lescott into the limelight. The former Fantasy favourite is likely to become a regular starter for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Toure holds 10.5% FPL ownership and his immediate ban looks set to cause many a headache, with the deadline fast approaching. A simple option for Toure-owning Fantasy Managers to consider is a straight swap for forgotten man Lescott. Since his big money move to City in 2009 he has had to settle for a bit part role, with the form of Kompany and Toure keeping him out of the starting XI. Priced 6.3 in the FPL game, Lescott is valued just 0.1 less than Toure.

Whilst at Everton Lescott was practically an FPL institution, in the 2007/2008 year alone he notched up a mammoth 196 points, quite a feat for a defender. Lescott offers a serious aerial threat, often finding the back of the net in his days at Goodison Park. The Lescott of yore was also very capable of catching the attention of the FPL bonus points judges, in the 2006/2007 season he fetched 27.

Of course a lack of match time and a change of scenery may have hampered Lescott’s potential slightly – he is no longer a big fish in a small pond at City. But with many Fantasy Managers finding a Toure-shaped whole in their teams, he may just be the perfect fit.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

        Birmingham have another DGW coming up so got them in now, can be bench fodder if need be.

        Arteta can be shifted for VDV next week, bringing in another potential Doubler.

        Torres in for the soon to be good fixtures and a double.

        Sounds logical, whether it pans out like that remains to be seen.

        Good luck to you as well Flynn.

    Foster – Al Habsi
    Kolarov – Huth – Rafael – Coleman – Djourou
    Nani – Van der Vaart – Meireles – Downing – Barton
    Tevez – Berbatov – Van Persie

    Thinking of using my free to go RVP -> Zigic. Wondering if I need to take a 4pt hit to take another transfer – unsure of injury status of Barton, Meireles, VDV. Also need to get rid of Rafael.

    Beckford or Zigic??

    Beckford - Doesn't play full games, Moyes will probably still be pissed at him for being late for the cup game, though Everton have a good run of games after this GW.

    Zigic - Likely to get the minutes, in good for but wonder where his head will be after the cup win.

    Baines, Coleman, Luiz, Jiranek
    Nani, Nasri, Dempsey,
    Rooney, Zigic, Tevez (C)

    Szczesny, Meireles, Adam, Bardsley

    4pt hit by removing Berbatov & Walcott for Zigic & Nasri
    Prob going to regret Berbatov as every time I take him out he scores big. Decided Nasri better option than Arteta long term.

            IM leaving open the option of a Torres > RVP next gameweek or following week.

    I'm bringing in rooney and lampard not zigic and arteta!

    I see people are bringing in Zigic (tempted myself) but for a 4pt hit is it worth it?

    I assume he'll start both games, so even if he does nowt should still get 4pts, if I don't take the hit to bring him in I'll be playing Odem who might not even play at all? so I'm thinking its worth a risk (another 2XGW coming up too)

    other option is Beckford, think I've convinced myself but I do tend to go 'stupid' for double gameweeks

    Foster – Al Habsi
    Kolarov – Huth – Rafael – Coleman – Djourou
    Nani – Van der Vaart – Meireles – Downing – Barton
    Tevez – Berbatov – Van Persie

    Definitely going RVP -> Zigic with my free. Any of these necessary/worth a 4pt hit?

    a. Rafael -> Luiz
    b. Barton -> Nasri
    c. Berbatov -> Rooney

    Anyone taking a -4points punt on Saha? Seems silly to keep RVP, with Berba not def starting and VdV still a doubt.

    Worried about Saha's injury proneness...but think he might be the best attacking option for EVE for next few games/weeks?

    (want nasri over arteta i think)

      It's a gamble but one worth taking imo with Saha.

      If he can keep fit and in form then he would be ridiculous value over the next few weeks. The problem is just whether he will.

    RVP out. Read this morning that Wengerson said last week 3 - 4 weeks out. Cash is abundant. Already brought in Zigic.

    So, I'm a mile ahead in my mini league...

    A. Main oponent has Rooney, could bring him in for Safety
    B. Take a punt on Torres / Anelka
    C. Saha for double

    Gotta be A right?

        Djourou has been one of my better transfers this season. He even went and scored in the game against Newcastle where they conceded four. And they only conceded those goals after he went off!

        Looks as good as nailed on in that back four and is bargain basement cheap. Ridiculously good value.

      Current team:

      Foster,Al-Habsi,
      Rafael,Coleman,Kelly,Simpson,Djourou,
      Nani,Cahill,VdV,Barton,Brunt,
      Tevez,Berba,RVP.(1.7 in bank,1 free transfer)

      Thinking of doing:
      Kelly->R.Johnson,
      RVP->Zigic,
      Cahill->Nasri for an 8 point hit.

      Alternatively,could do RVP/Berba->Rooney instead of the Zigic move.But I’m not sure if I should be taking an 8 pt. hit this week as I took a 4 pointer last week to bring in Berba(!) that didn’t pay off.What do you guys think?

      This will be really hard to justify, but I'm planning an 8 point hit (never done it before). I've got 7 players out and I need players. Plan on doing the following:
      RVP->Rooney
      Fabregras->Nasri
      Kelly->Coleman

      Thoughts?

        Do it. I had seven out last week and took an 8 pointer. You have nothing to lose if you cant get a team out. Its a bit safer if you get dgw players in your hits to increase the chances of getting your points back.

            I think Nasri will play. Arsenal is low on players at the moment and I think (correct me if I'm wrong) Wenger came out yesterday and said winning the league is the priority for this season? He'll need to play Nasri if he wants 3 points from Sunderland
