As you will have read in countless reports this morning, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended after testing positive for a ‘specified substance.’

It is believed that the test results were taken from the Manchester derby at Old Trafford last month. The Ivorian international has the chance to request a another sample he gave at the same time is tested. Depending on the outcome, Toure could face a maximum of two years out of the game.

The former City captain, who has cemented himself as the first choice central defensive partner alongside Vinent Kompany, looks set for a lengthy spell out of the first team. In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms this thrusts Joleon Lescott into the limelight. The former Fantasy favourite is likely to become a regular starter for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Toure holds 10.5% FPL ownership and his immediate ban looks set to cause many a headache, with the deadline fast approaching. A simple option for Toure-owning Fantasy Managers to consider is a straight swap for forgotten man Lescott. Since his big money move to City in 2009 he has had to settle for a bit part role, with the form of Kompany and Toure keeping him out of the starting XI. Priced 6.3 in the FPL game, Lescott is valued just 0.1 less than Toure.

Whilst at Everton Lescott was practically an FPL institution, in the 2007/2008 year alone he notched up a mammoth 196 points, quite a feat for a defender. Lescott offers a serious aerial threat, often finding the back of the net in his days at Goodison Park. The Lescott of yore was also very capable of catching the attention of the FPL bonus points judges, in the 2006/2007 season he fetched 27.

Of course a lack of match time and a change of scenery may have hampered Lescott’s potential slightly – he is no longer a big fish in a small pond at City. But with many Fantasy Managers finding a Toure-shaped whole in their teams, he may just be the perfect fit.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    My first ever 8 pt hit taken! Not much has worked out this season but lets hope this one does! Got in Lampard, Arteta and Zigic.
    FOSTER (Harper)
    COLEMAN Kolarov Djourou (Huth, Kelly)
    Nani VdV BENTLEY ARTETA Lampard
    Tevez(c) ZIGIC (Odem)

    Just not too sure about captain! I think Tevez is the best bet, just hoping he wont get a 2!

        True! But I think Man City could score just as many at home to Wigan! And Tevez is more liekly to be involved if Man City score than Lampard if Chelsea score. Both are likely to get bonus too.. Hmm!

    Foster – Al Habsi
    Kolarov – Huth – Rafael – Coleman – Djourou
    Nani – Van der Vaart – Meireles – Downing – Barton
    Tevez – Berbatov – Van Persie

    Definitely going RVP -> Zigic with my free. Are any of these necessary/worth a 4pt hit?

    a. Rafael -> Luiz
    b. Barton -> Nasri
    c. Berbatov -> Rooney

    A young GW29-33: bol,WOL,eve,NEW,whm

    Arteta GW29-33: new/BIR,FUL,AV,wol,BLA

    All things being neutral, i think we'd all agree young is a better choice.
    But arteta has the double, home fixtures for 3 straight weeks and 4 out of 5 against bottom half of the league.
    but after GW33 villas fixtures remain great save for arsenal away for the rest of the season while evertons get tougher.
    will young outscore arteta over the next 5 GWs?

      I think young may well outscore due to his more offensive role. I have both Arteta and Young. I'll be selling Arteta eventually but Young is a keeper. No Cup, No Europe just PL demolition on his agenda.

    Who would you bench, if this was your team?

    Foster (Begovic)
    Kolarov Coleman R.J. (Huth, Walker)
    Lennon Young Nani Nolan (Yaya)
    Tevez Saha Zigic

    Not sure about benching Yaya (WIG), but because I already have Tevez and Kolarov as my City coverage, he is sidelined at the moment.

    Im also thinking to change Yaya to Nasri or Lampard and then to sideline Lennon or Young.

    Advice please!

      Not sure about that. Roach did dismiss three of Bangladesh's best four batsmen.... It was between him and Sammy for me, Benn - despite taking the most wickets - had the weakest claim for it IMO.

      Devastated that I brought in Shakib for this one game, wasting a transfer and so not captaining Roach. Absolute nightmare move.

          Most uninspiring midfield continues for years to come. Fletcher Carrick and Gibson, worthy inheritors of Keane and Scholes etc.

            Hargreaves and Scholes will leave 2 spaces to be filled. And filled they shall be.

                😀

                Worth playing Nolan this week? Gone off the idea of Lampard cos it means another hit onto of 8 so will get Torres prob.

                Then its Nolan v Simpson. Prob Nolan ya?

                  Oh I'd say so yes. You can never tell when our clean sheets will come despite our improvement at the back.

                  All I can see is that he is still rated as doubtful, real pain that no clear information has come to light.

        Here is a conudrum for you all..

        My mrs has a team but she is very particular about who she puts in her team, she likes players with good names and wno't put in players she simply does not like!

        Anyhow despite this twisted logic she is 240,000 in the world (above me) and i've knid of adopted her team a bit!

        Currently her squad is:

        Hart (Myhill)
        Coloccini Coleman Kolorov Djourou (Huth)
        Nani Raul Jarvis YaYa (Fabs)
        Zigic Bent/Berba

        My question is what do i do?

        Saha in for either Bent or Berba i'm thinking then is it worth taking a hit to lose YaYa or even Fabs out?

          There's a phonetic resonance to hainv saha AND yaya in your team. I'd do thatl.

        MY dilemma....

        Current team...
        Foster
        Ridgewell/Kolarov/Coleman/Huth
        VDV/Nani/Young
        Tevez(c)/Odem/Rooney

        Do I do Barton to Nasri/Arteta
        or Barton to Nasri AND Odem to Saha take a 4 point hit and bench Huth??

        Which is basically only a 2 point hit if he stays fit but worried by Huth on the bench??

        Using my free on RVP -> Zigic. Any of these transfers worth doing for a 4pt hit?

        a. Rafael -> Luiz
        b. Barton -> Nasri
        c. Berbatov -> Rooney

          Maybe the Barton -> Nasri one. Only becasue Barton is a doubt and Samir Nasri should score huge

        VDV and Kelly Out
        Nasri and Coleman in

        4 point hit worth it?

        Is 8 point hit worth it if i add Odem out for Zigic In?

          I don't think you should take a 4 point hit for Coleman. I'm uncertain he'll score big during this DGW. If possible, take the 4 point hit for Odem to Zigic and leave Kelly in your team, unless it means you can't field 11
