As you will have read in countless reports this morning, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended after testing positive for a ‘specified substance.’

It is believed that the test results were taken from the Manchester derby at Old Trafford last month. The Ivorian international has the chance to request a another sample he gave at the same time is tested. Depending on the outcome, Toure could face a maximum of two years out of the game.

The former City captain, who has cemented himself as the first choice central defensive partner alongside Vinent Kompany, looks set for a lengthy spell out of the first team. In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms this thrusts Joleon Lescott into the limelight. The former Fantasy favourite is likely to become a regular starter for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Toure holds 10.5% FPL ownership and his immediate ban looks set to cause many a headache, with the deadline fast approaching. A simple option for Toure-owning Fantasy Managers to consider is a straight swap for forgotten man Lescott. Since his big money move to City in 2009 he has had to settle for a bit part role, with the form of Kompany and Toure keeping him out of the starting XI. Priced 6.3 in the FPL game, Lescott is valued just 0.1 less than Toure.

Whilst at Everton Lescott was practically an FPL institution, in the 2007/2008 year alone he notched up a mammoth 196 points, quite a feat for a defender. Lescott offers a serious aerial threat, often finding the back of the net in his days at Goodison Park. The Lescott of yore was also very capable of catching the attention of the FPL bonus points judges, in the 2006/2007 season he fetched 27.

Of course a lack of match time and a change of scenery may have hampered Lescott’s potential slightly – he is no longer a big fish in a small pond at City. But with many Fantasy Managers finding a Toure-shaped whole in their teams, he may just be the perfect fit.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

      Somebody please help.Current team:

      Foster,Al-Habsi,
      Rafael,Coleman,Kelly,Simpson,Djourou,
      Nani,Cahill,VdV,Barton,Brunt,
      Tevez,Berba,RVP.(1.7 in bank,1 free transfer)

      Thinking of doing:
      Kelly->R.Johnson,
      RVP->Zigic,
      Cahill->Nasri for an 8 point hit.

      Eight pts. spent worth it?Only thing I'm undecided on is whether to bring Zigic or Rooney in for RVP.Zigic is good for this week,Rooney long term. What do you guys think?

            I could still go with what i have and bench vidic, rvp, adam.

            Prob Baines from that lot but Everton arent great and Newcastle should score

        for the (many) out there considering major surgery this GW, here's what i did:

        kelly > rjohnson
        cahill > nasri
        yaya > bentley
        RVP > saha

        12 pt hit. don't think i've taken that big a hit ever in FPL, but with 3 DGWers (2 on peno's) in that bunch, i'm hoping it ends up a positive transaction. was helped a bit by seeing that my h2h mini-league opponent had also taken a 12-pointer.

        also, all brought in have very favorable fixtures through GW33.

        just some food for thought for the gander.

          RVP to Bendter is my only worry for you. It could pay big dividends but if it fails, its gonna hurt. Lampard and Nasri are good acquisitions.
          Berbatov to Rooney next week may not be necessary, just wait and see if Berba plays this gameweek to decide

            Would not be captaining Zigic Stardust, Tevez or Nasri are much better options, I think Zigics' returns will be limited to a goal, Tevez or Nasri can both outscore in one game. Nice team.

              Ok... this Zigic mania needs to stop.. NOW! The guy himself doesn't even know if he's nailed on plus the fact that he's... how do you say it... CRAP. Add the fact that Brum isn't really scoring with the fact that Roy is coming to town with his extra defensive formation and you have a WINNER!

            Oh my word. Possibly the funniest interview I have read in ages
            http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11678_6793423,00.html

            Steven Ireland is suuuuuuch a menk. Here are some highlights from the article:

            "For a start, Birmingham is a c**p city and I wasn't going to make the effort, especially as I wasn't playing. Might as well be in Manchester if I had to stay home on match days."

            And the best line in it:
            "I don't give a damn for Ireland. Live in Cork? I'd rather shoot myself. I prefer Los Angeles,"

            😆

                He aint saying much controversial about Cork to be fair.

                Beyond drinking and Gaa (which it seems he doesnt have much interest in) there isnt exactly much to be doing .

                He is still a fruitcake mind.

                    I dont live in limerick. 😉

                    And it wasnt a particular comment on Cork. Merely saying S Ireland who obviously isnt in to GAA or drinking from what ive seen him say and heard from people who knew him when he was young would obviously not favour living where these things are what the majority base there lives around.

                    Its true for most of Ireland. You would obvioulsy choose LA over Cork or Ireland given the completely different brand of live there and he obviously finds it more to his tastes.

                      I would absolutely not choose LA over Cork. Not at all. There's far more to Ireland than GAA and drinking, otherwise I wouldn't have lived here for 12 years. Seems an odd thing to imply to be honest.

                        No im not saying that im saying having heard about him from people who knew him growing up he didnt like these 2 pillars of irish community very much. He was an outsider.

                        And given the circumstances he would choose LA over Cork anyday of the week. Not "you" as Atilla but You as in if you were into what he is.

                  pretty controversial that he is saying he would rather commit suicide than live in Cork DB, but I don't really have too much of an issue with him over that, I am not a Cork is the REAL Capital of Ireland kindof person at all, in fact, I am looking to leave myself quite soon.

                        I think we have our wires crossed.

                        My point is if your not into those things (Gaa, drinking etc) then basing yourself in a city which has alot of people interested in this is not appealing

                        Not saying there arent other things to do. But that in other cities like LA there are more things to do in comparison and more of the population do them (arts, films , i dont know what he likes 🙂 )

                        Point is if he doesnt like those things then he would obviously want to live somewhere gives him more of his interests.

                I especially loved it when Houllier came in and commented on how he was lazy during training. Ever so slightly different report than we get from Ireland's mouth... Constantly.

                  Different context JU. You cant relate them.

                  Ireland hates his hometown. There are people all over the world that feel the same for whatever reasons.

                  Hitler is a one off. His opinions impinged on others to a massive degree -
                  all Ireland is doing is expressing mere words. He can hate Ireland , Cork whatever, Doesnt do any harm to anyone

                  Starting to blow this out of proportion.

            In a bit of a muddle, as I could get away with saving a transfer this week. Thoughts please:

            Foster (Begovic)
            Kolarov Simpson Djourou Coleman
            Bentley Nani VDV Young
            Rooney Tevez

            Bench: Odem Barton Kelly (Bank 5.8)

            With VDV now declared '100% fit' and ready to face Wolves, he comes back in. I was going to possibly do Odem > Saha, but then which defender would you take out?

            Young is a possible but he's on fire.

            CRICKET

            Been eztremely conservative with my transfers, which i have now realised is a big mistake.

            Need to do some transfers, but cba for tomorrow as it's Sri lanka vs Australia so don't see the need to load up on any of them.

            Think it will just be Dilshan (C). How about everyone else ?

            Okay, few options.. pretty similar to what most seem to be asking though so see how it goes.

            Both are 4 pointers:
            VdV + RVP > Arteta + Bendtner
            VdV + RVP > Beckford / Zigic + Lampard

            Or just RVP > Beckford / Zigic / Bendtner

            Shame I can't squeeze Bendtner and Lamps in, still got a WC to play too.

                I just worry with the Champions league etc. I know Tottenham have a nice run of fixtures, but I think I will just bring in a defender come WC time instead. Not planning ahead with this change more than 1 week, got 80 points in mini league and only one left with WC.

            I know most footballers are arses (rich, young, male, ignorant/stupid; all the qualities no one likes) but atleast most of them understand not to talk. Stephen Ireland on the other hand is constantly moaning on and being generally impossible to like.

            attacking segment currently is:

            nani / VdV / nasri / bentley / young
            torres / saha (c)

            berba on the bench.

            do i have this right? or should i have berba starting and young at the mercy of VdV playing/not playing?

            Foster (Al Hasbi)
            Huth, Coleman, Baird (Vidic, Kelly)
            Nani, Young, VdV, N'Zogbia (Adam)
            Tevez, Berbatov, Odemwingie

            Probably will take a 4 point hit

            Options are:
            A: Kelly->Djourou
            B: Kelly->R.Johnson (or Carr if not playing)
            C: N'Zogbia->Nasri
            D: Odemwingie->Saha

            Probably leaning towards A & C. Thoughts?

            I have Tevez and Nani but thinking about givin the armband to a doubler - I am top of my mini leagues etc.. so might be a stupid thing to do but i wanted to come top 50k this year and @ 60k so i need a boost!

            Im thinking zigic or Arteta? anyone agree or decide between the two??

              Neither are great options: Birmingham's weakened midfield and Arteta's non existent form.

              But it's always nice to take a risk, especially when it has two games to pay off. That's why I've gone for Saha as captain.

                  Out of the two I'd go for Zigic, he has some type of form at the moment and is actually scoring goals... Seems the safer of the two risky options.

              I agree you should take the risk on Zigic or Arteta, would make you so happy you took the gamble if it pays off. I think Arteta more than Zigic if i was to choose one.
