As you will have read in countless reports this morning, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended after testing positive for a ‘specified substance.’

It is believed that the test results were taken from the Manchester derby at Old Trafford last month. The Ivorian international has the chance to request a another sample he gave at the same time is tested. Depending on the outcome, Toure could face a maximum of two years out of the game.

The former City captain, who has cemented himself as the first choice central defensive partner alongside Vinent Kompany, looks set for a lengthy spell out of the first team. In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms this thrusts Joleon Lescott into the limelight. The former Fantasy favourite is likely to become a regular starter for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Toure holds 10.5% FPL ownership and his immediate ban looks set to cause many a headache, with the deadline fast approaching. A simple option for Toure-owning Fantasy Managers to consider is a straight swap for forgotten man Lescott. Since his big money move to City in 2009 he has had to settle for a bit part role, with the form of Kompany and Toure keeping him out of the starting XI. Priced 6.3 in the FPL game, Lescott is valued just 0.1 less than Toure.

Whilst at Everton Lescott was practically an FPL institution, in the 2007/2008 year alone he notched up a mammoth 196 points, quite a feat for a defender. Lescott offers a serious aerial threat, often finding the back of the net in his days at Goodison Park. The Lescott of yore was also very capable of catching the attention of the FPL bonus points judges, in the 2006/2007 season he fetched 27.

Of course a lack of match time and a change of scenery may have hampered Lescott’s potential slightly – he is no longer a big fish in a small pond at City. But with many Fantasy Managers finding a Toure-shaped whole in their teams, he may just be the perfect fit.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    Thinking of doubling up with Baines & Coleman, daft? Considering i have 2 birmingham players aswell.

          I've brought in Baines and Osman for a 4pt hit. I've also got Coleman and three Birmingham. Should be fun. It's only fantasy football, isn't it?

    Hi Guys

    I'm a long time follower of this forum but first time poster. Thanks to the help from this site I have been lucky enough to make it to number 12 in the world.

    I am in the same situation as most of the people this week....replace RVP. I have pretty much decided on Saha. My reasoning is that there is a very limited chance of Zigic or anyone else scoring more than 1 goal in any game but Saha is a good player and could end up doing something big.

    The guy at number 1 has a very strong team and a 50 point advantage so as a differential I am thinking of captaining Saha. I would be interested to hear what differentials you would consider if you were in my situation....

      In my oppinion Birmingham have the better fixtures of the DGWers so I would opt for more birmingham coverage as a differential, especially seeing that #1 only has foster (assuming ferguson doesnt play).

      I can see R Johnson getting at least 10 points and there's a place up for grabs for main penalty taker. You could see either Larsson or Bentley on this as well as free kicks, and possibly Gardner.

      But if you're looking for a Van Persie replacement; Zigic could easily come away with an assist and a goal +2 BPs, although i've opted for Martins as he offers something different to the Birmingham style of play and is more likely to be a big hitter even if he doesnt play the full 180 minutes.

      Oh and don't doubt his ability at set pieces, he's surprisingly good in the air. (Imagine the power he could get on a header if he strikes it mid sommersault!)

        Hahaha...nice mental picture of a somersault header.

        What you say is true but the thing that holds me back from Birmingham attackers is that I dont think they will score many goals as a team!

          I'll take an Obafemi lone hat-trick any day! But obviously that is more of a punt for me and not such a big decision.

          So see what you mean and this is a problem but Everton's form has been shoddy to say the least.

          I would rather have Baines and Coleman for Everton coverage because of the attacking threat you can get from these FPL defenders is like having more midfielders.

            Transfers in GW:

            Zigic 42225
            Martins 2914
            Saha 34445
            Anichebe 7

            Teams selected by %:
            Zigic 3
            Martins 0
            Saha 3
            Anichebe 0

            Anichebe is apparently back from injury; He's the real differential!

    Foster (Al Hasbi)
    Huth, Coleman, Baird (Vidic, Kelly)
    Nani, Young, VdV, N’Zogbia (Adam)
    Tevez, Berbatov, Odemwingie

    Probably will take a 4 point hit

    Options are:
    A: Kelly->Djourou
    B: Kelly->R.Johnson (or Carr if not playing)
    C: N’Zogbia->Nasri
    D: Odemwingie->Saha

    Probably leaning towards B & C. Thoughts?
    (If VdV doesn't play I will be left with no backup, which makes Berbatov and R.Johnson a bit of a risk)

    There have only been six goals scored in the five Premier league meetings between Wigan and City in Manchester.

    There have only been eight goals scored in the last six Premier League meetings between Sunderland and Arsenal.

    Worrying stuff lads, worrying.

      Tevez scored and assisted the last time he faced Wigan. That's good enough for me. The only other two i would captain are Nasri or Arshavin and i have neither.

    All this Bendtner chat has got me thinking...what's better ? (all are for point hits)

    a) Cahill -> Nasri
    b) Berbatov -> Saha
    c) Berbatov -> Bendtner
    d) Cahill & Berbatov -> Nasri & Saha
    e) Cahill & Berbatov -> Nasri & Bendtner
    f) Cahill & Berbatov -> Lampard & Bendtner

    Squad is

    Foster (Stockdale)
    Coleman, Baines, Kolarov, Djourou, (Kelly)
    Nani, VDV, A Young, (Adam), (Cahill)
    Tevez, Zigic, Berbatov
    Bank: 1.6m

    Afternoon all,

    Hoping for a spot of advice, still undecided as what to do this week.

    I've got Kelly, Cahill and Walcott all out. Barton a doubt and Odemwingie a rotation risk. I'm prepared to take a four point hit, just wondering what transfers to go for:

    A) Cahill > Arteta & Walcott > Nasri
    B) Cahill > Nasri & Odemwingie > Saha

    Cheers for the feedback.

    Asked if Bale would available for the game at White Hart Lane, Redknapp told reporters: "I'm hoping. He feels OK. He has just got to push himself through it now. He feels fine and obviously we'd love him back.

    "Rafa is the same. I don't think Rafa will be fit for Sunday but there's a chance he could be fit for Wednesday night with Milan," he added at the club's training ground.

    DAMN!!!

        looks like most people going with Zigic. Does not feel right he is rubbish! but oh well time to have a punt on the DGW.
