Chelsea maintained their title tilt with a 3-1 seaside win over Blackpool, with Frank Lampard rewarding gameweek investment with a Fantasy return of bygone days.

While Lampard is back in the groove, Carlo Ancelotti was again left straw clutching as he attempted to talk up the marriage of Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres up front – a pairing that appears to be more effective at troubling each other than it does opposing defences.

Ancelotti started with the Drogba/Torres partnership in a 4-4-2 for the first time, dropping Nicolas Anelka to his bench. Elsewhere David Luiz overcame a slight hamstring strain to take his place in a Chelsea defence that saw a return for Jose Bosingwa at right-back with Branislav Ivanovic making way. In midfield, Yury Zhikov made his first start since November as Ancelotti opted to bench Florent Malouda.

There was plenty of shuffling in the Chelsea lineup then and the inclusion of Bosingwa and Zhirkov emphasises the options now available to Ancelotti – a concern for Fantasy Managers who can no longer find security amongst several former favourites.

The striker situation is clearly not settled. Chelsea looked far more effective when Salomon Kalou was introduced for Didier Drogba – until that point, his partnership with Torres had faltered and had failed to trouble the Blackpool defence. Typically Ancelotti was quick to defend his strikers, and particularly £50 million Torres, in his post-match analysis.

“[Fernando] is showing good movement, showed good movement with Drogba in the first half. It is important he works for the team and he is, he will improve and he will score obviously. I think they played well with good combinations at the start of the game. I didn’t ask them to play close, they spread the defence and they played well I think.”

Torres has now gone five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring for the third time this season. The Spaniard is clearly struggling for confidence but Ancelotti’s looks set to keep him in his starting lineup, rortating Drogba and Anelka around him. Considering the price tag paid, that’s not entirely surprising.

Drogba’s injury is difficult to assess, although with Chelsea’s next league encounter with City failing on March 20, it seems unlikely to be a concern in Fantasy terms. Ancelotti had this to say on the situation…

“Didier had a knock, we hope in two or three days he will be okay, we have to check in the next few days and after that we will know what happened…I don’t know the injury because I didn’t speak with the doctor.”

Lampard has now struck 4 goals in his last 5 league starts with 7 Bonus Points and 2 assists also dropping into that spell. That’s the kind of form we could associate with Lampard from previous seasons, but this recent spell is the first time this term he’s begun to display such returns. This upturn in Lampard’s output coincides with a run of kind opponents for Chelsea (MCY stk WIG wba BIR WHM) and, given the uncertainty up front, he looks a strong option for those looking to cover the attacking potential of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The Chelsea defence has kept just a single clean sheet in its last five league matches – away at Fulham in gameweek 27. That’s a sobering statistic for those looking to jump on the David Luiz bandwagon. The Brazilian was certainly exposed a few times by Blackpool’s propensity to run the Blues defence. Given Chelsea’s forthcoming opponents however, investment in Luiz would seem likely to pick up in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Looks like I'll be doing

    Berbatov > Rooney

    Nani > Lampard

Unless someone can see a more urgent transfer? xxxxxxxx

I wouldn't do either of them. Berba's been a right bully at home this season, and we don't know how long Nani's going to be out for yet. And Lampard's next two fixtures aren't too great.

"Such was the ferocity of the Liverpool player's challenge that the gash to Nani's right calf cut right through to the bone."

If Jamie had managed to tackle nani and cut his calf right through to the bone that would be pretty f*cking ferocious... there was me thinking it was his shin.

I'm getting far too excited in my mind about doing Nani>Lampard if he's out for a month. Need to reign myself in, as he could be back for Fulham and Everton at home (potential for cricket scores in those games).

I'll be keeping him. Can't be bothered to check right now, but if I sell him and then buy back (which I'd want to do) it'll cost an extra £1-1.5M.

    Szcezney
    Sagna Djourou Koscielny Clichy

    Van Persie

have a feeling that arsenal can beat barca if they spread the play. When an arsenal player gets the ball there will be 2 or 3 barca players on them, leaving space on the other side of the pitch. could work! where's Wengers number?

Eboue can be decent on the wing, he played well at RB in the first leg. Im more worried about Denilson or Diaby playing. Diaby tries to dribble his was out of trouble which could be costly against Barca's pressing game. Denilson doesn't track back and is slow and clumsy.

Can anyone else Actually see arsenal going through tonight ?

IMO Arsenal will get an away goal, what with puyol and pique both out. However Barcelona will also score 2 minimum. Then Arsenal have the advantage of away goals counting double.

So a 3-2 scoreline in favour or barcelona or something would see arsenal through.

We need Valencia/nani back, along with Park and an in form Rooney (he's getting there imo).

      mate feel for ya.

Gargle with soluble aspirin is a great idea. But if youre stuck in the house and cant buy any atm. Then try gargling with salt water. (Dont drink it as obv you'll be sick) The salt helps kill off the bugs. Always works quickly for me.

Why does rafael think he's such a hardman

If I was a united supporter (god forbid) I'd be quite worried about Rafael seeing as he's their future right back. He's got serious temper issues. I don't know how many times he's been booked or sent off this season but I seem to remember a few times this season where he's gone in for rash challenges that are both malicious and dangerous and then gone looking for a fight in the melee afterwards.

Someone needs to remind him he's a weedy 5,8 brazillian rent-boy with the gayest hair-do.. and that squaring up to 6,4 slovakian, bald, tattooed centrebacks like skrtel probably isn't the best idea. So to quote 'the rock'..rafael, shut your damn mouth, and know your damn role!!

It's all about the passion and that's why Neville was such a good full back for us. No point in having a team full of Assou-Ekotto's and Adebayor's.

Having passion is all well and good, but getting cards doesn't help win games.

Good, well not that good really IMO. Did you see the Fulham cup game, a typically lazy performance. What he's going for him is he's probably a better left back than Bale at the minute.

Hmm. Passion can be good and all but there's also a difference between being committed to helping your team and just being a prick.

Neville showed his passion by making the most of his chances and working hard in training, Rafael shows his passion by making several reckless challenges every game and fuelling every fire possible. Then again, he's young and might learn to control it.

To be fair, I'm not sure where all this "Rafael's a prick" stuff has come from (apart from Jamsiep's tw*tter account).

It's coming from myself watching him square up to people, argue with the ref, tackling dangerously and being generally obnoxious in every single time I see him play.

My actual response was more in the defence of Gary Neville though, I think it's incredibly unfair on him to compare him to Rafael.

What is it with "rappers" filling in every second of silence with chuckling? It's driving me mad. Obviously it's not them, it's the producer, but they must spend a day in a studio gigging into a microphone so it can be cut up by some paint by numbers studio producer.

I really want to know whether they can all be cut up into a track just composed of insane laughter.

Off the top of my head, culprits include:

Ill be VERY happy if RVP plays tonight against Barcelona (and remains injury free of course), but feel a little aggrieved at having sold him so hastily when my mini league rival didnt. Now he will be back next game, and Ill have to crow bar him into my team at a huge cost.

I got on the Bendy bus and now have to get off as RVP is back. (I'm still going to wait on transfers till the end of the week).
However I've gone very midfield heavy with Nani, Young, VDV, Lamps and Silva.
This means I can only afford one expensive striker.
Currently have Tev, Bendy and Zigic.
            What transfers to make?
Leon Best worth a shout? Carroll seems like an obvious choice at the lower price range. Gyan possibly?
