Gameweek 29 is brought to a close with Everton and Birmingham slugging out their second fixtures of the week at Goodison. Down at the Lane meanwhile, Spurs host AC Milan in their Champions League second leg with a 1-0 advantage from the San Siro. Eyes and ears might well be drawn to North London tonight then, but the minds of Fantasy Managers will surely also be turning to events on Merseyside as David Moyes’ side look to build on the 2-1 win at St James’ Park at the weekend.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is open for those wishing to indulge in some real-time opinion slinging on tonight’s events.

We had an anxious wait on Nikola Zigic’s groin – I never really thought I’d ever by typing that for all kinds of reasons. The news is that the “Serbian Skyscraper” misses out – he’s got to tuck his legs up on the Birmingham bench once more. Presumably Zigic is fit enough to play some part, but Alex McLeish appears to have opted for a 4-5-1 with his starting lineup. He makes three changes – Seb Larsson is brought back into the midfield, along with Jordon Mutch – Keith Fahey and Obafemi Martins drop out. Martin Jiránek comes in for Curtis Davies at the back.

As for the home side, they bring in Johnny Heitinga for hamstring victim Phil Neville and presumably the Dutchman will sit in the Everton midfield holding role. Seamus Coleman is on the bench again then. In better news for Fantasy Managers, Rafael Van der Vaart starts for Spurs tonight.

Here’s the full lineups from Goodison:

Everton XI: Howard; Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Osman, Heitinga, Rodwell, Arteta; Beckford, Saha.

Birmingham XI: Foster; Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell; Larsson, Bowyer, Mutch, Bentley, Beausejour; Jerome.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

You don't have to be a good player to accrue Fantasy points though. Charlie Adam is the second highest midfield-scorer in the FPL this year, Robert Huth is the third highest-scoring defender.

I don't think anyway would pretend Zigic is a great player or even a good one but he had the potential to score fantasy points this gameweek... up until the time it was announced he was carrying a groin injury.

Apparently he is not Messi, but a forward should score goals and he did it quite successfully recently. I can't say I've seen a lot of him, but what I've seen was pretty good, at least in the cup final he looked class for a type of forward he is.

Birmingham don't score enough goals and for a points hit, it's hardly worth it.

I also fell for the hype of the big name player Bentley. Wanted another Birmingham player and was all set to do Gardner until he got himself injured. As soon as I did it, I thought to myself why didn't I get Bowyer, at least he's consistent.

Gyan > Welbeck. Although Welbeck is ridiculously cheap I guess...

Cheap is (was) the prerogative with Arsenal/Chelsea DGW in the same week the next coming.

All to pot now anyway, it seems.

Squibby squibby DGW if there ever was.

Arteta will be out for weeks with a hammy, Bentley just has a sore vagina.

You need to tell me next time who you are getting so I don't copy you Andy. Your bad luck rubbed off on me 🙂

I've got 5 injuries this week, getting VDV or RVP is looking for further trouble. I'm going to look around for ever present players.

thought the pundits and pitch side interviewer was harsh on spurs saying they parked the bus. imo defending well doesn't mean that's all they did, they just couldn't quite create enough at the other end. to say they played for the draw is pretty insulting if you ask me

Redknapp was just interviewed here and he conceded they were outplayed in the first half and couldn't win the midfield where Milan had 5 players. Defending was not what they intended to do.

In fairness they looked completely flat going forward.

All they did was hoof it up to crouch and then later on just looked to Bale and looked completely lost when a pass to him wasn't on.

They created nothing, but fought like absolute troopers at the back - don't wanna take anything away from them, they did very well but they looked a little uneasy to me, didn't play their football very well at all imo.

+42, in every respect. I have already commented on the down on defending on this site. I think Spurs were marvellous positionally, tonight - and of course, William Gallas was the hero when needed.

yeah seems a bit harsh to me, just because milan did well i dont think it was anything to do with tottenham not being positive. gallas is the odd mad moment away from being brilliant. liked the look of sandro too
