Everton have offered further details on the hamstring injury sustained by Mikel Arteta in last night’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham. The Club have announced that, following scans, the Spaniard appears to have suffered a grade two tear.

That indicates that Arteta may have suffered damage a number of the muscles in the area where “the fibres have been pulled apart but they haven’t completely ruptured.”

Although Everton have stated that “It is not yet known how long the Spanish midfielder will be out for”, sources suggest that such an injury normally carries an absence of 2-6 weeks, others claim 4-6 weeks. At this stage, the safe bet would be to assume that Arteta seems likely to face around a month on the sidelines. That would see Arteta miss league fixtures against Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolves, with a possible return against Blackburn on April 16 – gameweek 33.

Over 100,000 managers in the Fantasy Premier League game have transferred in the midfielder over the past two gameweeks, with Arteta’s price rising from 8.0 to 8.3 as a result.

Arteta’s absence from the Everton lineup will come as a major blow for David Moyes. In Fantasy terms, it could now bring Seamus Coleman back into his starting lineup having started on the bench in the previous two matches, while Leighton Baines will be expected to assume full set-piece duties and possibly spot-kick responsibilities. Everton are yet to win a penalty in the league this season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who reckons they will still be on this site in say, 5 years time? Just asking out of curiosity.

Just realised Utd will probably have champions league in between gw 31 (whm) & 32 (FUL). Nani's a good chance of being alright for whm but if valencia, park & giggs are available it would seem likely that he won't start those 3 games in 7 days. Benched for west ham even if fit imo.

IMO either keep nani or if you don't think he'll play much in the next couple then seel fot vdv not bale. Tevez to RVP and/or zigic to welbeck can free up cash to get luiz in gw31/32

Neither are close, Luiz probably won't rise for close to a week, not many are getting vdv in thanks to his yellow flag. As things are he won't rise this gw but when his flags removed that could change.

First half of the season I was always happy with my team/choices but the points just weren't coming. Last few weeks I've been ravaged by injuries and have made some silly, desperate decisions hoping for differentials and it's just gotten worse.

yeah mate I'm planning tevez, bentley -> the dutch alphabets (rvp, vdv)
Tbh I'm really hoping utd and arsenal draw. It would give me a nice break that I need as I only have 2 players from the 4 teams that would have a blank gw.

Top tip for mini league leaders: always reveal your captain choice before the deadline. Chances are your rival will go for someone else for "differential", and probably make a bad decision in doing so.

I realized this last week when my rival swapped from lamps to tevez! I think people tend to make poor decisions when they are chasing a lead, so this is a good way to capitalize on that.

      Agree actually.

So many people play the game chasing leads and they make poor choices. Just play don't think about mini leagues or differentials or anything. Choose the players that you think will score you the most points.

Yea it's funny the stuff you see posted here, lots of gambling fallacies.

Another good one you see is "spreading the risk" by not doubling up on a defense, benching one player in favour of another player with longer odds for a cleanie.

I think the word gambling in itself would allow you to figure out that any advice regarding it would qualify as a fallacy in the way you describe it. Otherwise it wouldnt be gambling would it. The house always has the edge so advising me on a way to lose my money slower in the long run is not real good investing advice, but i guess it could be good gambling advice and as such not so much a fallacy. And spreading risk in terms of fantasy is not so bad either. As long as you find alternatives that you feel have as much of a chance of a cleanie than spreading out is a good idea, especially in the heavy snow season when games can be cancelled. Even though 1 particular week may be lower, the hope is minimize the variance from week to week, which can become important when games are cancelled, or key players from 1 team become injured putting much more pressure on your defense. Hey whatever works for you man, just dont assume that because you are having a good season you are the know all of ff. Learn a little humility and realize that Westfield Irons could have spit a million words of great advice from his great season last year that wouldnt do much for you this year.

Well I used the word gambling, but I'm talking about principles that can be applied in any game of chance, most commonly gambling, in this case FF.

You're point about doubling up is valid. Certainly there are long term disadvantages in doing so. My point was specifically about a single GW selection of one player over another to avoid doubling up, purely to reduce variance, but at the expense of your expected points for the GW. This is analogous to folding too many hands in a poker game.

I don't mean to sound arrogant, I just find that a lot of FF players are ignorant of certain gambling principles like variance and expected value, so I point it out when I see it. Just trying to help!

Newman is right, it is another FF fallacy I think. You should always pick the best player to get you points, regardless of ownership. If the player you pick happens to have low ownership, then great - that's what is referred to as a differential, but that's just a bonus that you have found him before everyone else.

If the best player for points happens to have high ownership, but you choose someone else with lower ownership, then you will simply lose ground every week. So you must always pick players based purely on points potential - the search for a differential is a fallacy.

I should add that there can come a point in the season where you might be faced with chasing a guy with, for arguments sake, the ideal selection of points-getting players. You have either made poorer choices throughout the season or simply been unlucky, but now you're only choice is to pick players with a slightly lower points potential, in the hope that they outperform his team in the short term. It's a losing strategy in the long term but the only hope of success at that point.

Haven't check this site in since my red arrow. I heard Nani is hurt, not sure his condition tho. Anyone see anything urgent I should do to my team?
    Foster
    Djourou, Kolarov, Huth, Bardsley
Nani, A Young, Ferguson, VDV, Nasri
    Tevez, Rooney, Odemwingie

Planning on Kelly to Walker this week. Any other suggestions?

With Ferguson out and odemwingie rotated, I would say change one or the other. Wellbeck a cheap option with improved fixtures coming up.

I'd wait to see what happens in the Man Utd v Arsenal cup tie.

If they draw, which is a distinct possibility, you'll have 4 of your starters out (Nani's out anyway). Getting Walker would no longer be a priority at that point.

So is anyone playing fantasy football for any serious amounts of money? Mymoney league top prize is only about £300 which I'm not sure the amount of effort has been worth but will be a nice have if I manage to hold onto my lead til the end of the season.

    Morning guys,

You reckon i need to take a hit this week with the below squad? If so, any obvious ideas? Thanks

    Foster, Stockdale
    Baines, Coleman, Kolarov, Djourou, Kelly
Nani, VDV, Arteta, A Young, Nasri
    Tevez, Berbatov, Wingie

i think you can skate by with that, benching obviously kelly and arteta, then either wingie or kolarov who can cover nani if he doesnt go.

Thinking Arteta has to go - will miss his best fixtures.

Perhaps a bit ott but the below should mean I won't need to take any hits for a while - which I was planning on doing to get 3 Chelsea by GW32...

Nani, Arteta & Tevez -> Lampard, Adam & RVP (8 point hit)

          But which 3?

          lampard and which other 2

i can't get a striker because i dont know which one will do well. i did well to get dj instead of varney, and i know my luck wont hold out. torres has to score sometime but drogba is the fantasy god of old.

luiz - is he going to start every game, i think he will but there will be some rotation. ivanovic is better than bosingwa but it will be rotated.

i was thinking of getting cech too

Cech and Luiz for me. Avoids me having to play Foster in some tough games and I think both are pretty nailed on to start every game.

Surprised to see Fantasy Cup opponent listed already. im in bad shape. we have virtually identical teams, except Im saddled with a crocked arteta and no keeper in all likelihood (Szczesny/Myhill). Also I dont deserve to win as i used my 1 free transfer already, so a replacement keeper is -4 points.
Still, I want to win and need ideas how to do it.

His likely squad(no transfers yet, 1 free):

    Foster
    Coleman, Huth, Smalling
    VDV, Adam, Barton, Silva
    Rooney, Tevez, Dembele
    (Carr, Nani-inj, Clark-banned)

    mine:

    Szczesny/Myhill-inj,bench
    Coleman, Huth, Walker, Carr
    VDV, Adam, Nasri
    Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov
(Simpson, Nani-inj, Arteta-inj) 1.9 in bank, no freebies

so its basically Smalling, Silva, Barton and Dembele
    against Nasri, Berbatov and Walker
as foster cancels out carr for the most part, though he gets an extra point or two likely.
this is the biggest captain choice of the season hands down.
apologies in advance as i will be asking again throughout the day. please put your thinking caps on and advise me!!!! thanks

Surely it will depend on whether Utd draw with Ars in the FA cup and loose their GW30 games. If I was captaining at mo, it would be Berb. Is there a link to the draw? Cheers

A week ago, my team was looking great. Now - where to begin? Szezeney, Arteta, Nani, Bentley all potentially out for a stretch, Coleman and Kolorov suddenly marginalised, only one free transfer....the only thing going for me is a week's breathing space. I'm thinking that the priorities are to replace Arteta and, possibly, Nani (I have a keeper in Hennessey whose fixtures are reasonable). Currently thinking of bringing in VdV (if fit) for Arteta, and perhaps Nasri for Nani....but a lot can happen before next weekend!
