Liverpool have confirmed that Steven Gerrard is set for a four week spell on the sidelines. The announcement comes following consultation with a specialist which led to surgery on his troublesome groin.

In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms, this will come as a blow to Gerrard’s 6.8% ownership as the instrumental midfielder looks set to potentially miss at least the next two Premier League fixtures (BOL whm). The skipper will also sit out next Thursday’s crunch Europa League second leg fixture with Braga; Liverpool trail 1-0 from last night’s first leg.

Liverpool’s spot kicks will now be up for grabs in Gerrard’s absence. After scoring a memorable hat-trick against Manchester United last weekend, Dirk Kuyt may be at the front of the queue having already assumed duties this season. The Dutchman has been a key figure in Liverpool’s turn in fortune over the last few months and, with Gerrard out of action, holds plenty of potential. Luis Suarez may yet have something to say when it comes to spot-kick duty, the Uruguayan will also be looking to pick up direct free-kicks – it was his effort from distance which led to Kuyt’s hat-trick goal against United.

Gerrard’s setback comes at a time when new signing Andy Carroll is in line to make his full debut for the club, following his £35 million pound move from Newcastle. Carroll’s influence as a target man was seen briefly in his substitute appearance during last night’s game with Braga. Kenny Dalglish will be frustrated at the timing of these events – Liverpool are surely set to miss Gerrard’s delivery, which would be a perfect compliment to Carroll’s aerial dominance in the box.

Injuries to FPL midfield favourites are now mounting up, leaving Fantasy Managers searching for replacements. Gerrard joins an already overflowing list which includes Tim Cahill, Cesc Fabregas, Nani, Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta amongst others. The likes of Kuyt, Samir Nasri and the Villa contingent of Ashley Young, Stewart Downing and Marc Albrighton are set to pick up further interest as a result, while Frank Lampard’s recent resurgence could well see renewed interest.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

              Riddle:
You are blindfolded and wearing thick gloves.
In front of you are 20 coins, 10 heads up, 10 tails up.

You must divide the coins into two groups of 10, and each pile must have the same number of heads/tails as the other pile.

              How can you accomplish this?

Balance all the coins on their sides. That way, both groups have 0 coins with heads face up and 0 coins with tails facing up.

Since you start off with half the coins on tails and half on heads; you can randomly divide them into two piles of 10 and each set of ten will be the compliment of the other set of 10. i.e. if you randomly take 10 coins that happen to contain 5 tails and 5 heads, the other pile will have to have 5 heads and 5 tails. Therefore the solution is to just take any 10 coins and flip them over. They will then be just like the 10 coins you didn't flip over???????

Well you can't have that front line and Lampard without ruining the rest of your team. Torres hasn't done shite so I wouldn't rush to get him. I think you'll likely have to lose Rooney or Tevez if you want Lamps..

smith is pants. hasn't got a decent score in months and seems to take the back foot strike-rate wise as amla scores.
also (not that those match previews have been much help lately 🙠) the pitch is meant to be a batsman's dream so not sure about a bowler. that was one of the factors that pushed me towards taking the gamble on ditching zaheer for roach today

That would be my choice too. Of all the transfers this gw I think Nasri to Adam and Zigic to RVP are the best 2.

I had enough at the start of the week to do both, keep Tevez and have £0.1m left.

Then Zigic went and dropped on Wednesday night, so if either moves again between now and next week I'm stuffed. Or I have to lose Carlito (would prefer not to lose Tevez just yet if I could help it though)

    hi..

Nani price will drop tonight. I could sell him for 9.5 now.

Better to keep or sell ?

I'm thinking of keeping him.. ;(

I will probably sell, but I will be waiting until last minute and keeping up with the news.

Price changes mean very little at this point of the season unless you are really struggling with .01 to afford a certain player.

Its like those abusive relationships where the bloke beats the girl and just knows he's no good for her and she should leave him. But she just can't.

I have same concerns over Coleman too.

However, Arteta's injury may force Moyes to have to play him again.

As long as you have a good bench and 3 defs that you know will start then you can leave Coleman in your lineup.

I have Walker, Huth and R Johnson so I can play Coleman this week and know that Johnson can come in if need be.

Also got Kolarov but his place not so secure.
