Arsene Wenger has been having a tough time of late. With Arsenal battling on four fronts there was talk about this “being their year” and the first trophy to adorn the Emirates Stadium cabinet seemed like it could finally be on it’s way.

A week or two later and Arsenal have been knocked out on three fronts and their charge for the fourth, and perhaps most important, title on offer this season [The Premier League] has taken a major blow. Arsene Wenger has confirmed the loss of Johan Djourou for the remainder of the season with a dislocated shoulder picked up in a collision with Bacary Sagna during the 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford (more on the game as whole in the notes to follow) tonight in the FA Cup.

“[He has a] dislocated shoulder. His season is overâ€.

With their main rivals Manchester United still fighting on three fronts Arsenal would have hoped to have a fully fit squad to concentrate their efforts on the title alone but the loss of Djourou at this crucial point, on top of Wojciech Szczesny damaging his finger and Cesc Fabregas straining his hamstring once more this last week, is something which cannot be understated.

The Swiss centre-back missed all but 29 minutes of the 2009/10 season and ever since his return in the Autumn of this one he has shored up an Arsenal defence that has already been sorely missing Thomas Vermaelen. His record of 11 clean sheets in the 15 starts made for Arsenal this season (with only 4 goals conceded) speaks for itself.

The shaky combination of Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci will be back on display for the Gunners for the time being and 6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Managers will be ruing the grave loss of the uber-cheap £4.4m defender from their ranks as they ponder potential replacements from fields less dazzling than that which an Arsenal defender can provide.

So who again was exactly saying that bar the media who were saying they were competing for 4. Which was factual true. Which as Football Weekly crew said the media do for every team and is ludicrous given no team has ever won and only one team has ever even won a treble. So it was bound not to happen.

Anyway who was "making quadruple claims" from Arsenal team or fans? No one as usual. And if there was one looney saying it on here or anywhere nobody would have taken it seriously.

Its fun the amount of stuff you make up from thin air.

Either back it up or dont post nonsense which others also noticed. Nothing to do with mates.

Im not getting drawn into another long boring chat.

the akers post you linked is bizarre. SO what if he says that? Whats the point, you think I care? Theres nothing personal here for me. Its a site on a forum. What i do have interest are if the views expressed have no foundation in fact. Whats more on that chat is he seemed to skim over the fact that many others in boxing circles said exactly same about lewis retiring and no rematch.

Being in north london, funnily enough i heard quite a few Arsenal fans talking about a quadruple, i'm not likely to record them, upload it to the net and link it just to please a village idiot on a public forum. You are intolerable, but actually, your daily buffoonery is a guilty pleasure to laugh at. Don't go changin'.

Sorry i was wrong you had the bright idea to take a few Arsenal fans seriously and the generalize it to a football club

The smart thing to go was not to take it seriously.

Barca are ion a league with 7 good teams and in an amazing 2011 score 3.02 goals a game.

Man Utd in the best league having an average season have scored 2.25.

The massive stat difference is in passing % and posession.

But the end result of goals is not so different.

Almunia, but not that tempting tbh. Might look at Dawson maybe, but Spurs DGW33 fixtures aren't great for cleansheets. Hutton has just come back, and has a bit more attacking potential and is cheap too.

I think getting in Nasri and RVP will be enough Arsenal cover for me, for DGW33.

Tevez isn't on fire, but at least he can create his own chances.

Don't think that injury can be blamed on the usual. Not training/treating muscle injuries properly is one thing to look at. Avoiding knees to the shoulder from your own players is a bit different.

Adam is a far better player and will get many more points. But it depends how you will play them, i.e which games you will bench them for, and over who. If Adam would sit on your bench most of the time then there's an argument for using the extra cash.

I said I can't bring myself to drop him, and that's why. But to play devil's advocate, he's very hit and miss, I've had him for most of season and I've had several painful captain experiences, far more than delights. But he's a top top player, if you can keep him in the face of the alternative options.

I hate to miss out on RVP during Arsenal's next 3 fixtures plus the double in 33, but if I pass on him I can get VDV and Luiz in the next two weeks while holding on to Tevez, Rooney, Lampard, and Nani.

so I guess that's my question. next four weeks:

    RVP........plus O'hara and Walker

    or

    VDV, Luiz....and Zigic

I want to upgrade Bendtner to either Rooney or RVP. Therefore need to downgrade two of Rafael, Huth, Silva, Young, VDV or possibly Nani.
I can just about do Silva + Bendy > RVP + Barton.
      Other than that not sure.
Or should I keep with a stacked midfield and just have Tevez/Rooney/RVP + Best/Welbeck + Carroll?

I think Tevez and Citeh are burnt out. I think Chelski have big issues with team spirit, I also think Arsenal are imploding, so I am going to favour Spuds and United. I am therefore going to get one Chelski defender on top of Frank, Ban der Vaart and Valencia, as I believe that Nani will be out for a long time. By week 33 all my Everton boys, apart from possibly Baines will be gone, and I will be looking to Spuds, Sunderland and Wolves for inspiration - fwiw! 🙂

its difficult to make assumptions about team spirt and burn out etc as we only see the players for 90mins but i agree chelsea, city and even arsenal look a little flat!

i think spurs have a strong squad but not the experience to do well in the champions league and finish in the top 4

i think selecting players on fixtures rather than form is the way i will be going

Interesting little ditty from Zonal Marking on todays match:

"Rooney tended to take more of a back seat role in United’s breaks here, however. He dropped deep into midfield when Manchester United were without the ball, generally picking up Denilson so United weren’t outnumbered in the centre of midfield."

Rooney, playing in midfield? Well i never. 8)

I actually agree that he played deep this game - basically midfield - but I will not elaborate on it as I still stand by my point that the Rooney positional debate is crazier than Charlie Sheen.

Not getting into the whole "Rooney and Cesc play the same position" thing, he was crazy deep tonight, but that looked like it was out of concern for their weaker midfield and was being all elder statesman like and propping the world up on his shoulders. Sometimes the camera would pan back over the front half of their team and you couldn't see him, quite bizarre.

As you say, it was an exaggeration today due to the midfield weakness, but he's been dropping deep all season (although not quite this far!) when he isn't stuck out on the left wing obviously... My original point was he wasn't scoring loads of goals because he wasn't playing last years position, which he isn't clearly. Thankfully the goals are starting to return anyway now though.

It seems different every game at the moment, with Rooney going out wide, equal up front in 442, dropping back in the centre. Guess there's method to the madness cos the results keep coming in. Personally as a Berbs owner I just cling onto the hope that SAF will change again and stick him in for Bolton.

Yeah it does seem to change every game. Re berba: absolutely impossible to predict, but because of that, i'd probably transfer him to someone who's more likely to start. RvP for example. I'm taking a punt on Carroll these coming weeks. Yeehaw.

            1. No it wasnt your original point was he and Fabregas were playing the same position

            2. Every agreed who watched any football this year he wasnt playing same position as last year and was dropping deep. Even at his deepest like today he wouldnt be as far back as Fabregas.

this is from zonal parking from today's parking.

      http://thepattons.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/bad_parking.JPG
fabregas' jeep remains deep but is free to go forward when the ford infront vacates the space.
nasri's volkswagon is seen starting from a wide space but has the freedom to drift inside or forward 1 space.
meanwhile rooney's ford is rather recklessly parked across 2 forward spots. it also has the ability to reverse back a spot when not in posession. the ford remains the most controversial of all the parking

Mihir, you seem pretty big on the idea of getting RVP back ASAP, but he hasn't shown a lot of his form in these last two games. Granted it was Barcelona and Arsenal hes facing, but why is he so much more important to get back rather than VDV or keeping Tevez?

      Spot the deliberate mistake...

I can see this from both sides. There's no reason RVP couldn't regain that form he hit, especially if Fabs gets back, and they've got a decent run of games. Against VDV is that he's been struggling a bit too, don't think he's really been on fire since a couple of injuries back, and as they are still in the CL there's more risk to his fragile legs. But, he has got the games too, so could go off.

did you watch that currrrrlllling shot which rvp made today, just missing top left today. that was such class that i still feel he was in very good form today. he is surely better than keeping tevez just based on fixtures and that tevez has got balotelli and dzeko to share the spoils. rvp is cheaper, up there on his own, takes every FK and pen, and has a fabulous fixture set!
i live vdv too, but you didnt give me an option to choose him. dont forget, vdv isnt in the best of form either.

That curling shot was a heart-stopper, wasnt it?

Ok, I'm starting to understand your point. I don't think its worth getting rid of Tevez when you look at Man City's fixtures from week 34 until the end of the year. You're gonna want him back, and hes going to be difficult to afford.

That said, I see what youre saying. We really have no guarantee on VDV's form. Its like when Liverpool had a great run of fixtures, but no one was on form, so it wasnt worth it. (although, if you look up the page, I did basically ask to choose between then)

Good points. I guess RVP is a good call, then.

i just noticed that you are rank 1.1k. lol what are you doing here taking advice from a loser like me.
anyways, one more point i'd like to make is that tevez hasnt scored in the last 3 games in which he was really expected to score. the easiest 2 out of those 3 seem to coincide with the return of balotelli.

tevez is only 1.5mill costlier than rvp, shouldnt be that difficult to fit him back into the team, especially as i will have welbeck as one of my strikers then.

Sure, Tevez didn't score in those games, but he DID score in their cup game against Villa. Sure, Villa played a crap team, but Tevez would have gotten 3 bonus for that performance. He was that 'on.'

Rugby was awesome, thanks. Basically being a neutral it would have been epic if Ireland hadn't botched up that overlap at the end, and Sexton had had a chance to win it from near the touchline, but it was still pretty eventful even without that.

The dodgy try was fairly amusing too. 😉

Ireland were pretty poor IMO, especially the kicking both from O'Gara and then Sexton.

The point i find annoying - maybe the Welsh feel the same , That we seems to click and win things, function and be at our peak in between World cups and then when WC come around we fade away, teams need rebuilding and we have little to show on a world stage for this dominance.

England seem to be great at being Kak for 3 years and coming together for world cups.

We're totally dreadful at peaking in a world cup year. Ireland certainly are on the decline now, as well.

England seem to be able to do that, and I'd put that down to the coaching and management more than the players.
