After a tough last few gameweeks that have seen them collect just one point from five Premier League matches, Sunderland’s fixtures are starting to look appealing again. There’s no doubt Steve Bruce’s side rode their luck a little in the recent goalless draw at the Emirates, but the Black Cats boss will take heart in the spirited performance ahead of the upcoming home match against Liverpool, which is then followed by a trip to Eastlands to face Man City.

Sunderland then have one of the most favourable run-ins of any team in the Premier League, with just one of their last seven fixtures (WBA, bir, WIG, FUL, bol, WOL, whm) against a team in the top half of the table. Beaten just three times at the Stadium of Light this season, Bruce will be looking for his side to push on from their current league position of eighth and the contribution of Asamoah Gyan will be vital.

In his debut season, Gyan is the club’s top scorer with nine league goals and- with Darren Bent’s departure coupled with injuries to both Danny Welbeck and Frazier Campbell- has cemented his role as Sunderland’s key forward since moving to Wearside at the tail end of last August.

With four goals, two assists and four Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points since the turn of the year, Gyan has continued to bang in the goals despite his side’s indifferent form. Bearing in mind the afore-mentioned set of fixtures, the Ghanaian could well be finding the net a few more times before the season is out, particularly now as Sunderland have key players such as Lee Cattermole returning from injury to strengthen their starting XI.

Although last week saw Welbeck make a brief substitute appearance since succumbing to a knee injury in early January, Gyan looks the more reliable of Sunderland‘s forwards to plump for, in terms of both performance and availability. Priced at just £7.0m and with 4.2% Fantasy Ownership, he’s still relatively cheap enough to free up FPL budgets for those Fantasy Managers looking to juggle personnel in light of the upcoming blank and/or double gameweeks.

Ahead of this week‘s home encounter with Liverpool, the stats certainly seem to be favourable for those mulling over an imminent punt on the Sunderland forward; Gyan has found the net in three of his last four home games and, with Liverpool conceding at least two goals in six of their last eight away games, the signs are looking good.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

So it sounds like Balotelli pretty much shafted City tonight?

I know there aren't too many, but i'm confused that some people seem to hype him so much. He obviously has some talent but i've seen nothing from him on the pitch to make me think he can be close to the world's best player - and with the temperament and attitude he has it really is hard to see him ever getting there.

Am i missing something? Because tbh i think the bad far outweighs the good, the guy is a liability and a tw@t, i'd hate to have him at my club.

How you can compare Hernandez and Balotelli is beyond me. It's like comparing Owen with Bergkamp and saying Owen has more talent because he scored more goals.

Your talking about Ballotelli who has terrible attitude,

Every player in the world is better in this regard.

Why seemingly attribute something to Hernandez that even El Diouf is better at.

Exactly. Hernandez has nowhere near the technical ability of Balotelli, but he does work hard and not get himself in trouble.

As a manager if I thought I could get a grip on Balotelli, which I don't think Mancini can, then I would rather have him than Hernandez.

Mourinho is possibly the game's best man-manager. If he couldn't get a grip on Balotelli no-one can.

He was 19 at the time. It would be very impressive if someone with that talent at that age was fully mentally developed to deal with the expectation that he carries considering his potential.

Admittedly Mourinho could not handle him, but I do not think that Jose went about it the right way especially with the media. For someone with as big an ego as Balotelli, treating him like that was never going to make their relationship any better.

I'm not saying that players should be fully mentally developed from that age, but the extent of Balotelli's attitude problem leads me to believe that he's one of the Ravel Morrison's of this world. A talented psycho.

Again its cos he comes from a Big League has a huge potential, can be sold in future again and played for the European champs as a teen, competition for his signature, market value, PR ability, etc etc etc

Oh and its Man City which means his fee goes up.

The fee doesnt just relate to ability. There are a host of variables.

Why do you think 24mil simple is an evaluation of his talent?

+1 He has bags of potential and IF he got his head right he could go on to become one of the top players in the world. 24 mil for that sort of potential makes more sense than the fees paid for the likes of lescott and milner. He's only 20 yrs old and already he's shown on his day he can be world class.
Don't get me wrong I think he's an absolute clown and it's quite likely he'll never learn the humility and mentality to fulfil even half his potential, but the potential's there.

He's given some insane hype in the media and on here though, in areas I don't agree with. I agree that he has the potential to be a very good player, BUT I also think that he will need to add other aspects than running at the offside trap to his game.

Why does everyone seem to think he is going to be the world's best player. It has been mentioned in a couple of posts.

It takes an extraordinary amount of talent and application to become 'the world's best player'. Balotelli obviously has got talent and will probably become a very good player but it is unfair to label him with such a title considering it will be almost impossible to achieve.

Even when he does do good things people seem to overlook them, he has scored 10 goals in around 20 games (including substitute appearances). Which is a good return for someone playing their first season with new team-mates and in a new country as well as him not being the focal point of the formation and him being on a wing.

His attitude is very bad and Mancini must get control of him because if he continues to get sent off then it will cost Man City more matches.

If he grows up then he will become a very good footballer, the last thing he needs is at this early stage in his career for referees to develop an opinion of him and treat him more strictly than they would a player with a good disciplinary record.

I haven't taken issue with his ability as a footballer - though i've said he's not the special talent that alot seemed to have promised. But in terms of attitude he falls so far below what he should be doing, and that is the easiest part to get right.

Sorry I was trying to say that he is one of the hottest young prospects in football at the moment, and probably the most exciting young talent to come out of Italy in the last 5 years, no other players spring to mind.

Considering Messi is only 23 and can probably improve further it would be an incredble feat for Mario to become a better player than him.

I see what you're saying, but what i mean is those articles were, by implication and quite literally describing him as one of the biggest talents in europe, and he himself has said he will be the best in the world, no?

It would be an incredible feat for him to be better than Messi, but i mean when i think about best players in the world i don't just think of Messi, i think of plenty of players - and Ballotelli certainly isn't close to them in terms of ability based on what i've seen.

my gut instinct was to do Berbs > Rooney. Berba has his moments, but is he really worth the keep when I can easily slot in Rooney who will at least start. Plus SAF probably wont change Rooney/Hernandez and Berba will once again be on the bench.

I asked the question. Team news on here doesnt list him in first 11. I was gonna keep him this week with a view to getting VDV in next week coz I really thought N'Zogbia could have been an inspired choice for this week. If he isnt gonna play I may as well do the transfer this week for a hit.

My .02 is - although completely sympathetic with people seeking change/reform - that initiating what would be a third active conflict [for the US] at this time is nearly foolhardy ... especially for a guy who's been tolerated to this point.

Just seems another quagmire that reinforces the worst thoughts about US actions ...

Not that I'd reasonable think the Libyan Forces could present a significant impediment ... but it's the caretaking and rebuilding that kills ...

True, but I think the najor difference is this conflict has the support of the international community and the region and the rebuilding is more likely to lie with the responsibility of the Arab League and the UN.

Also, I find it hard to compare with Iraq/Afghanistan as it is just air strikes......

Admittedly, if it remains, indeed, "just air strikes", then I agree as to their potential value.

Clinton's support of the Kosovar Albanians has shown that limited strikes can accomplish much.

But strikes - supported by the int'l community or not - are an act of war. You'll excuse me for being a bit gun-shy after the last two 'easy-peasy' efforts have gone t!ts up ...

I'm almost scared to say this but I think it's the right decision. If they have a rule about emotional messages they should follow it, or they'll be in big trouble later.

I'm deeply sorry for Abidal but there are plenty of ways for the Real Madrid and Lyon players to show their support other than wearing t-shirts. This might be very very cynical of me but it does look a bit like if Real&Lyon mainly want to make themselves look good.

Will I be slaughtered for this? I'm a nice man. Really.

lolz, I can sort of see your point of view, but to me it just seems petty for UEFA to clamp down on that sort of thing, especially as it was BEFORE the match.

I certainly agree that stuff after goal celebrations can become ridiculous, especially when you get players showing support for relatives in prison etc.

In this instance I think there was a clear case for FIFA to make an exception.

Well he has two fairly tough away games and then ARS. Might not be the best time to get him; Silva out if you really want Adam, but Silva has a pretty good game next week

Do we reckon Tevez out for RVP is worth a 4pt hit???
    Team as it stands is

    Hart (Szczesny)
    Luiz, Baines, Jiranek (Bardsley,Coleman)
    Meireles, Lampard, Adam, Young, Nasri
    Rooney, Tevez (Hoillet)

I know if I take Tevez out he will score, always the way of it.

Struggling to make transfers this week. Need a wild card t do everything I need to do.

I want VdV and Adam. I want Rooney and Van Persie. I want Young instead of Bent and Smalling instead of Kolarov.

    Current team:

    Foster
    Coleman, Huth, Walker
    Nani, Lampard, Nasri, Barton, Jarvis
    Tevez, Bent

Subs: Harper, Kolarov, R Johnson, Zigic

    £2.6m in bank

Should I get Rooney in or Tevez? Is Nasri enough Arsenal cover for this week? Is Defoe or Hernandez worth a punt?

    Any ideas lads?

    Manchester United v Bolton (1500)

United have the air of champions about them, and it's no news that they've been winning (relatively) ugly all season. That continued in the Champions League midweek when they disposed of Marseille, once again rewarding backers who had sided with them to be winning at half-time and full-time. That's now happened in their last 10 games at home. On the face of it then it's a surprise that bookmakers are still going odds against for that outcome to arise again. However, in midweek they did look vulnerable and should have conceded at least once. With Rafael da Silva and John O'Shea out for several weeks, the list of United defenders on the sidelines is worryingly long. Nemanja Vidic may return, but he had to miss the midweek tie because of an ankle injury. Visitors Bolton go to Old Trafford on a six-match unbeaten run, and while they lost 2-1 in Manchester last season, they were a tad unlucky not to leave with a point. Chelsea loanee Daniel Sturridge is available again having been cup-tied for the FA Cup win over Stoke, and the Trotters are playing some of their best football for years under Owen Coyle. The form of Chung-Yong Lee since he returned from the Asian Cup is a boost, and while Coyle is keen to try to keep him fresh having played lots of games over the past 12 months, the side look more effective with him involved. They have not been more than 1-0 down at half-time on any of their away league travels this season, and should get an opportunity to score, especially if by keeping it tight at the back they frustrate the home crowd.

Verdict: Manchester United 1 Bolton 1 (ND)
