Charlie Adam has demonstrated that Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points can transform a decent Fantasy asset into a potential season keeper – his haul of 43 so far this season stands alone and has helped him to an overall points tally bettered only by Nani amongst the midfielders on show.

While the Blackpool skipper’s potential over the coming weeks is clear, there are several names elsewhere who can be purchased for a relative pittance and who could well have their FPL returns strongly supplemented by Bonus Points over the remaining gameweeks. Such acquisitions could prove crucial, both as differentials and as a means of liberating funds for big money signings in our squads.

Junior Hoilett

Canadian-born David “Junior” Hoilett has been hugely influential since cementing his starting role in the Blackburn side. Equally adept in attack or on the right flank, Hoilett poses a serious threat goal threat – demonstrated by strikes in his last two Premier League starts. In Fantasy terms he has caught the eye of the Bonus Judges amongst some very ordinary attacking talent in the Rovers line-up – grabbing 6 Bonus in his last 6 fixtures.

Members versed in their OPTA stats can see just why – Hoilett’s dribbling ability, goal threat and the knack of creating chances for others has seen him usurp Morten Gamst-Pedersen as the Rovers Bonus darling. Valued at just 4.0, Fantasy Managers can pick Hoilett up with loose change and a current ownership of 1.0% signals differential potential.

Although teetering just a single point above the relegation zone, Steve Kean will fancy his side’s chances of survival. Bar a trip to the Emirates and visits from both Manchester clubs, Blackburn look well placed to salvage their top-flight status (ars, BIR, eve, MCY, BOL, whm, MUN, wol). The next three Ewood Park fixtures, falling in the next five gameweeks, look key encounters and could well prove profitable for both Rovers and Hoilett. Whatever the outcome of their end of season run in, Hoilett looks set for the Rovers end of season player honours and a place on our pre-season watchlists.

Jamie O’Hara

The focus of our recent Watchlist, loanee Jamie O’Hara is doing a fine Charlie Adam impression over at Wolves. Since arriving at Molineux, he’s been a major influence on their recent revival and has gathered 8 Bonus Points already. FLP veterans will be more than aware of his prowess in this area – he notched up a remarkable 25 for relegated Portsmouth last season.

Again, our Members can turn to their OPTA stats to see just why the former Pompey man has stood out – O’Hara has bossed matters from the middle of the park for Mick McCarthy’s men, enjoying plenty of possession and contributing some impressive passing stats, along with a goal threat.

Indeed, in just five Premier League starts for Wolves, O’Hara has also managed to find the back of the net on two occasions and Mick McCarthy’s men have been victorious in three of the games he has featured in.

He has clearly been an inspired signing by McCarthy and, given that Wolves have one of the kindest run-ins around, O’Hara should be in line to fetch further Fantasy profits. With an FPL valuation of 5.1, O’Hara has to be a midfield consideration and, with an ownership of 0.6%, he offers serious differential credentials.

Danny Welbeck

Welbeck already has 11 Bonus Points in the bag for Sunderland – acquired before a hamstring injury ruled him out for around 8 weeks of the season. The United loanee is clearly a major influence on Sunderland’s attacking play, seeing a lot of the ball and providing a supply and threat from a wide role in the Black Cats’ forward line.

Having battled back to fitness, Welbeck looks set to bare greater responsibilities for Steve Bruce’s side with Darren Bent’s departure leaving a 24-goal-a-season hole. With an FPL valuation of 4.6, Welbeck is a snip and there’s every reason to suggest that if he stays fit, he will offer decent goal and assist returns which should in turn be supplemented by further Bonus Points. Apart from gameweek 31’s visit of Manachester City, Sunderland have a run of fixtures which should secure them a solid top half finish (Mcy, WBA, bir, WIG, FUL, bol, WOL, whm). The run of games from gameweek 32-35 looks particularly fruitful.

Adam Johnson

Adam Johnson has mainly featured from the bench for Manchester City this season, starting just 8 Premier League games. And yet, in these limited appearances the England winger has managed to earn an impressive 9 Bonus Points. Although still looking to recover full fitness having been out since the end of January with ankle injury, given Man City’s recent lack of goals and creativity, Johnson could well be set to play a prominent role in the end of season run-in.

Johnson is available for just 5.6 on the FPL game and offers a decent route to covering City’s potential over the coming gameweeks, particularly for those looking to shed an out-of-form Carlos Tevez. With a schedule that includes a string of winnable matches and a double fixture in gameweek 36 (SUN, liv, N/A, bla, WHM, eve/TOT, STK, bol), you would expect Johnson to provide a much needed spark and for his 2.2% ownership to rise as City push for that top four spot.

*apologies to Blue Teets for the off-subject post. Erm... Swindon Town are the only team to concede 100 goals in a Premiership season.
