Arsene Wenger has given us a timely update on the injury situation at the Emirates, announcing that Cesc Fabregas, Abou Diaby, Alex Song and Theo Walcott could all return to contention in time for the gameweek 31 clash with Blackburn.

Speaking to Arsenal TV, Wenger sounded optimistic on their chances…

“It’s a long way to go, but at the moment they’re looking good.â€

The return of the midfield quartet will surely prove a huge positive for Arsenal’s title challenge, but for Fantasy Managers their availability could cause issues with rotation. The return of Walcott and Fabregas in particular, clouds the issue with Samir Nasri and Andrey Arshavin who will both be on the radar as we lead into Arsenal’s double fixture in gameweek 33.

That pairing have previously been vying for the starting role on the left flank, with Walcott operating on the right. While Arshavin has at times played second fiddle to the outstanding Nasri, the Russian’s current run of form will surely hand Wenger a selection poser. We could well see frequent rotation of Walcott, Nasri and Arshavin over Arsenal’s remaining matches then – denting the Fantasy potential of all three.

Cesc Fabregas seems set to emerge as smart acquisition yet again then, despite a faltering season which has seen him return just 3 goals to go with 10 assists to this point. Injury has obviously hampered his potential, but if Fabregas can make an eye-catching return against Blackburn, he will be firmly back in our thoughts for the season run-in, particularly if Wenger begins to shuffle elsewhere in his midfield.

In other injury news from the Emirates, Thomas Vermaelen has indicated that he is unlikely to see action this season…

“The chances that I will play another game this season are small…I can understand my manager when he says that my season is over: I have been out for seven months and I must fulfil a complete ‘pre-season.â€

The defender has been nursing an Achilles injury since September, leaving Wenger stretched for resources at the back; a situation worsened by the recent shoulder injury sustained by Johan Djourou. Arsenal did at least receive positive news on him this week – the Swiss international will not require surgery and the latest indicates that he will be targeting a return for the clash with United on May 1. Until then, Wenger looks set to persevere with Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci at the back – not a pairing that encourages confidence or investment from Fantasy Managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Hi guys, advice needed...

Already transferred out Huth->Luiz (fixtures and DGW)

Which would you choose from these transfer options:

      Optiona)A.Young->VDV
      Tevez->Rooney

      or

      b) A.Young->Lampard
      Tevez-Carroll

I like a, but really need Lampard in for the fixtures and DGW.

      Thoughts appreciated 🙂

Seriously, i've been to Old Trafford when they're losing and they were worse than bloody Leicester fans. Despite playing ridiculously well but not being able to break through it was all doom and gloom and literally not a single chant all game after that.

        Mind boggling.

Being deadly serious i don't doubt that this must be the case for most of the bigger clubs (i've only experienced it at Old Trafford though), that you get more and more people turning up just to see them win that when the team is losing they just moan, pretty sad imo. That said obviously it's success on the pitch that makes half these fans turn up - bit of a poisoned chalice really.

Sad to say, you're right about the noise at OT when we're losing and not playing well. I think it's more a case of being spoiled by success, though, expecting to win and not being happy when we aren't.

Roy Keane, not for the first time, had a point...

We very, very rarely boo our own team, though, and at away games the fans are incredible (one step ahead of your petition on the standing areas 😉 ).

A good mate of mine his given up his season ticket at OT partly because of that (he's had it for 15 years), partly because of the Glazers and in a large part due to the shite like the Rooney contract fiasco. He just doesn't like the way it's going, fair enough IMO.

Yeah to be fair it probably filters down too, i know there are alot of people even at the Leicester games that turn on the team at times. It makes perfect sense really that with less success comes lower expectations.

And i completely agree with you about away games, always get a much better atmosphere ime.

Yeah. For the Olympics, Qatar pay Kenyan runners to take Qatari citizenship, something like £200,000 a year for 5 years.

Not really in the amateur spirit of the Olympics.

Really? Not just sour grapes due to the whole why isn't everyone taking the piss out of Carroll like Torres thing?

For me it's because Carroll is an excellent target man who pulls in defenders to him. Suarez will be buzzing all over the place finding space that Carroll creates. I think in a similar vain Carroll and Rooney will work together well for England. Or maybe both partnerships will fail dismally. I think i can guess which you'd prefer 🙂

Look at this AP, something about your new scouting object.

              OptaJean

124 - Yann M'Vila completed 124 passes against Luxembourg tonight, an Opta record since we have been analysing France in 2006. Carousel.

I really think Carroll and Suarez can tear up the PL. If they can establish a good understanding they could be unstoppable.

But Suarez isn't particularly quick, at least not in comparison to other leading strikers in the league, so he won't be able to fully exploit this mythical 'space' that Carroll creates. Nor will he be able to surge onto the knockdowns that Carroll wins in the air.

Suarez thrived in the World Cup playing alongside a clever forward - Forlan. Just wondering whether he'll be able to do the same alongside someone who quite clearly isn't a clever forward, and most probably won't anticipate Suarez's movement quickly enough, nor can he shift the ball quickly with just one touch. There haven't been any signs of a genuine partnership forming (all Suarez's best moments have been acts of individual brilliance). Although I guess it's far too early to make judgements on the partnership.

Suarez is one of those players who are just so hard to disposses, I don't what it is, doesn't look as if they do anything differently. He doesn't need to rely on pace to get into positions, I'm sure if Carroll just camps Suarez can find him.

Yeah, he's similar to that respect. I don't doubt that Suarez has the talent to be able to 'find' Carroll. It's the other side of the partnership that I'm concerned* about.

*bad word. I'd love it if the Carroll/Suarez partnership was a complete failure. ;P

Did he thrive playing with a clever forward at Ajax? (i've no idea). He might not have outstanding pace but he's got that weird bustling style that Tevez has that just seems to beat players with force of will alone.

Also re: carroll, considering he was merking teams playing in the newcastle squad, my guess would be playing with a better quality outfit would raise his game further.

+1 Carroll is a nightmare to defend against, holds up the ball, makes chances and keeps the cb's busy. Suarez's movement is brilliant, great finisher and he'll make use of the space carroll makes better than most would.

I can see why you say that but I disagree. Adam would be the playmaker, pulling the strings from deep. Gerrard and meireles would both have a box to box type roll, as long as they both do heaps of running and one of them is always dropping back when we lose possession I reckon it would work a treat.

why not? As I said the onus would be on gerrard or meireles to get back and defend when we lose possession, both used to play more defensive roles and either of them can do it as well as lucas imo.

                    Our best mid recently was:

                    "destroyer" Mash
                    "passer" Alonso
                    "attacker" Gerrard

That midfield is not like 2 passers and a attacker.

Youve got have someone puttin in the graft like Mash did and Lucas has done, with Adam it would have to be

                    Lucas Meiereles + Gerrard/Adam

Totally agree goose that midfield was awesome and they all complemented each other perfectly. That doesn't mean it's the only way top have a good 3 man midfield though. For Adam to play with Meireles and Gerrard it would just mean one of Gerrard/Meireles would have to be more disciplined with their defensive duties, probably alternating which one played more defensive throughout the game.
My point is that either Gerrard or meireles can play the grafting midfield enforcer as good as lucas, they've both done it in the past. We just don't see it atm because both are much better attacking than lucas.

Absolutely. Especially as determination used to be one of his main strengths in my opinion. I always had the feeling he knew what he wanted to do as soon as he got the ball when he was at his best.

I still back him to regain that form though. I guess Chelsea could use it sooner rather than later.

Everyone was singing carroll's praise when he was at newcastle. Now that he's got a 35 mil price tag he's all of a sudden shyte?
He's a big target man that does his job damn well, he used to get praised for that, now he's criticized because he doesn't dribble like messi or finish like villa.

I made that comment straigth after Roy sacking prediciting Liverpool would continue to struggle

Funny reading back I said about 5 times things were worse in Russian and I supported the dutch and aload of ppl kept asking
why i was denying things were not worse in Russian and supporting them. ergo - nobody exactly read my point 😉

Funniest bit was RBJ that morning pre announcement saying how loads and loads of ppl were saying FIFA was just taking the mick and Beckham and co were fools for thinking they would winand he got attacked left right and centre

    Doubles for GW 34:

    Bolton: ARS ful
    Fulham: wol BOL
    Stoke: avl WOL
    Wolves: FUL stk

Here's hoping the desprate among us take 8 point hits to ruin their teams for it. But it does seriously raise the prospects for some bargain picks i.e. O'Hara, Sturridge - if you can manage to bench them for GW 33 of course.

I'm thinking about getting Doyle. Maybe Zamora if he gets/stays fit.

throws a curve ball at my planned sturridge -> suarez move in gw34. O'hara looks the most likely doubler to have a cracker that week imo.
